it's sad to hear Nana's + HelloVenus' story (idk who they are btw), i probably take it for granted being a stan of a popular group who attends the awards every year, but so many groups debut and don't get the chance to attend such events and its really sad. There needs to be some sort of rotation or something, but I agree there are far too many groups to cater for. Plus I don't think AOA will be getting booked for anything any time soon, if that is some sort of consolation for HV.
There's nothing you or I can do about it. No matter how much I try to persuade myself to look upon lesser known groups, I do it for a few minutes and start making up reasons like the music video looks cheap, their album packaging looks cheap, they don't look funny (even when I didn't even bother looking up any show where they've been present), etc. I admit my taste in music isn't sophisticated. If it were, i'm sure I would be looking other Korean artists like indie bands or rock ones. But, yes even Koreans aren't doing a better job compared to me.Big companies in Korea try to make fancy music videos, follow the trend of music (like the exotic one recently) and spend a lot in promotions. It's rare to find companies like bighit that manage to create popular content (go with the flow) and at the same time establish such young artists (and it happened because some of their trainees proved to be good producers + not only YG has a person like Teddy, bighit has pddogg, supreme boi, etc.) In order to do that, exceptional people need to be found. In Hello Venus' case they are part of a common planning that these companies do. Girlgroups get debuted in order to make a profit for the company. Red Velvet manages to do better because their company has enough resources to make me and you believe that they're good. Fantagio (Hello venus' company) can not do that. Even if they create a decent album for the girls, they fail to promote it as good as SM does. And so you and I perceive this group as average because we get caught in the Korean marketing planning. I hate to say it but sometimes I get frustrated with the fact that girlgroups don't even seem to bother trying to make their own music. Still I'm not going to criticize them for this. Not everyone can make an excellently produced song, not even idols can do that. To conclude, idol life is tough and lucky. I didn't get a taste of it, but somehow I can see it. No girl or boy group in kpop is doing anything revolutionary. That's why idols tend to audition for big companies, because their effort/talent rarely goes to waste. If you audition for a smaller company you will still be able to make good music if you are good enough (like bolppalgan4), but will need more time to get noticed. I hope that proves to be the same with HELLOVENUS, but at the moment they need to prove themselves in the Korean market. My pity or encouragement as a foreign kpop listener won't change a thing.
I agree with you 100%, i stan BTS and even I know that their type of success coming from a small company doesn't happen frequently, plus its difficult to get into a group which seems generic, and familiar. It's just a real shame.

I'm heavily impressed by LUMPENS and the crafty people behind their music videos, especially during the HYYH era (which is my favorite one). You need time to understand that BTS' success takes long to plan and execute perfectly. In the beginning I also thought that these guys are extraordinary and that no one can come close to them, but their company never fails to give so much quality content to the fans and the result is what you see. As for other idols, no matter how good they are, it will be difficult to get to this kind of level without the proper support of the company. Usually once a company creates a group that manages to bring cash back, they keep doing what they have been doing (I will have to wait a long time for the day when an entertainment agency will post 8 short films as TEASERS for a music video, or even give each one of the members an opportunity to showcase what they can do). Despite loving BTS, I personally am a huge fan of MONSTA X. I know that with the content that they are showing, they are following the same pattern that other groups do, but I believe that someday they will get the promotion they need (I personally became a fan after their THE REMIX chinese appearances). Overall all idols are talented. Despite the sugarcoating that the companies make when mentioning their idols as composers, I am skeptical because they can't create something like LOVE ME RIGHT of EXO or Married to the music of SHINee. But I am certain that idol groups coming from small companies can pull the interpretation off.To conclude, dull marketing (when directing MVs, composing songs, etc.) will make every group seem generic and familiar. When done right and artistically (my opinion, because others may disagree), we may witness another BTSque artist.
