Disappointed they didn't include X-Men Arcade game with this artwork, but I expected them to reuse these old pcbs because they can't afford any development cost. I do agree they may not have the license, and if they don't, this leak almost certainly made it harder.
@@Rabbitlord108 well you are not wrong. The problem Is that Disney, and a lot of companies, think that all these minority groups are who they should sell their products/services to, when in reality they do not give a f..k.
Unless a company directly comes to them for a collaboration then that is what they will become. First Oreo and now Xmen 97 I’m sure there are more to come. Those days of 3-6 new license cabs a year are over. Anyone wise will just look to mod, find cheap on marketplace or wait on sales on anything left at retailers.
Hi JDV, I like the tempest in a teacup comment, how about Tempest XL instead. What part of XL doesn't Arcade1up understand and not just at freakin Costco, they just don't know what they are doing since John D left.
I get the feeling that these "announcements" are merely to keep the wolves at bay for a time; an attempt to quell any rumors of them going under. Certainly nothing to get too worked up over. But all things considered, better news then none, but only just.
Yesterday, I was assuming that this was a Disney+/Marvel X-Men ‘97 tie-in that was accidentally posted early. Then the X-Men ‘97 trailer came out, and at first, I thought that confirmed it. BUT … This cab art had a MarvelStudios logo on it. But the trailer has a new MarvelAnimation logo. I’m starting to think maybe this was a mock-up done to pitch it, or at least, not final art.
There are so many skins from the 80s that would entice a decent audience. Question is whether that’s enough. And, trouble is they cannot seem to get some of the favs of that time. DK, DK Junior, Robotron, Pole Position, Turbo, Qbert, Stargate, and a long list beyond that. I would pay $800 for an XL Robotron skinned properly with good controls.
I think they're saving the XLs for the 2nd half of the year/start of 2025 as to not cut the legs out from under all those Deluxe cabs they invested it.
Thing is. I KNOW Nintendo will never touch the idea of working with Arcade1up with a ten foot pole. They'd rather keep that stuff to their own systems like the Arcade Archives releases on the Switch Eshop.
even new product leaks gives us hope and something to look forward to. they should make an XL cab with bring your own games on a USB. have different cab styles and skins.
I tend to agree, but... it's not back on their website yet. At this point it's no more real then that ALIENS V PREDATOR cab. If it - or something else - doesn't get announced w/in the week, it'll be even worse then if weren't leaked at all. Time will tell....
JDV. You are indeed the man! If X-Men '97 could be a hit for a beleaguered company like A1Up, I will be surprised. If A1Up is serious about its survival, it should think about XLs from now on. There is NO going back at this point. I would love to see a revamped XL of Pac-Man with the option of turning off the lighted buttons like the Galaga Deluxe Cab as well as a Ms. Pac-Man with black and pink and that both cabinets need about 18 games. Plus, no more "exclusives" like Costco because it will water down demand and that they should invest in selling new XLs on QVC and HSN. People like watching these home shopping channels because they are informative, fun and you could get excellent bargains through them.
Hey thanks Joe! Travis MCP said it was a colab cab with Disney, so I wonder how many units will be made (typically a small number, with perhaps the exception of the Atari 50th). I do think they'll re-issue that Pac-Man XL cab, but I'd also be surprised if they made any changes.
Not sure what it does or doesn't say about the health of the company but I love the artwork.I have nostalgia for the show though , but I think it's a very clean cab that pops. If it were an XL it would be a definite purchase, right now it's a maaaybe.
Yeah, I actually think it's a good looking cab, but to simply re-use the same PCB is a decision that will keep a lot of people (including me) from buying. Now, if it drops to $299, that's another thing....
I think you got one of the last Tron's just saved 700 dollars...lol and no this is not going to save 1up.. $400.00 dollar cabs and parts dept would save them.. We know these cabs cost next to nothing to make, probably cost more to ship than make.. I used to deal with Chinese people who made aftermarket cylinder heads.. and on a large scale how cheap they got was mind blowing..
I do think they got addicted to the profit margin they made during covid. The notion that that they were going to move 20,000 NFL BLITZ cabs at $599 was borderline insane.
Ok, what about an SF Alpha cab? They ignored the Alpha series since day 1 even though they made a lot of Capcom cabs because Capcom is easy to license from. They had some of the best arcade games, too besides Sega, Midway, and Konami. But, if the SFII deluxe is softmoddable we could put Alpha 1 and 2 on it and run it on an emulator. I don't really care for SFIII or Alpha 3.
Rob, I think the days of putting out totally new cabs are numbered for A1up. If they do put out a "new" cab, it'll be something we've seen before. Hope I'm wrong, but I would not hold your breath.
That's a shame because there are so many cool arcade games that they haven't done yet. Like Pole Position, Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter 1 and 2, House of the Dead 1 and 2, Virtua Cop 1 and 2 for example. I'm going to make my own HOTD cab with Arcade1up parts and Retro Shooter guns or Sindens or Wii red and blue guns. I think they will only make what retailers think will sell. Some cabs they sold direct only like KI Pro and some cabs were only sold at Costco like Pac-Man XL and an MKII variant with BOE monitor and lit marquee and a few others.
Yeah, there's lots of stuff that likely will never see the day. I'm waiting to see if that leaked X-Men '97 game - weak as it is - actually get announced in the next few days. If it doesn't, that's a very bad sign for A1up.
I like the side art of the X-men '97 panels, but I don't like the marquee, and the bezel. There's no details art on it. It just the titles only, same problem I had with the MvC2 bezel, plain. Most importantly, why would I buy a deluxe when it doesn't come with the stool? The MK2 deluxe cab didn't come with a stool. The stool alone cost around $80. X-men '97 cab for $499 may be cheaper than the MVC2 cab, but I rather buy the MVC2 cab when it's on-sale.
Very hard to see this cab flying off of the shelves, ain't it? I know some people like the new art, but w/o any new games or functionality, it's not terribly compelling.
Yeah, I wonder if it was planned or just a legit accident? Either way, not a whole lot of buzz for this cab - really needed to put 6 more games on it to make it worth upgrading to.
I suppose X-men fans would like the new art, and for those people who hate risers it's a nice addition to the Deluxe line-up... but yeah, that's about it.
Definitely leaked on purpose and intentionally pulled down after. The original MvsC2 cab looks better. Just another re-hash. Starwars XL? Starwars Trilogy? AVP? House Of The Dead?
I still hope they come out with a AvP - it looks to be a fun party cab. Still think SW XL is coming for the Xmas season. Little chance of HOTD coming, and none at all for Trilogy w/o major hardware upgrades (which means no chance).
Yeah, the HS-5 would be more arcade legit, which they know people want. Which also tends to show that they did not want to incur the (very minimal) cost of redesigning the art for a differently shaped cab. I mean, if Disney specifically reached out and asked them for this. it makes some sense. But by itself, it is - at best - a side ways move.
Yeah, not an overwhelming demand for that cab in the first place - and certainly not enough for current MvC2 owners to buy it again. Putting PUNISHER and a a couple of other games to bump it up to 14 might have, but as it is (if it happens at all) it's likely doomed from the start.
So is this great news, or a tempest in a tea cup?
Disappointed they didn't include X-Men Arcade game with this artwork, but I expected them to reuse these old pcbs because they can't afford any development cost. I do agree they may not have the license, and if they don't, this leak almost certainly made it harder.
Also, why not throw in PUNISHER? I mean, that might actually get established owners to buy it.
