I was born in 1988 and I remember hearing this song all through the 90s growing up and I still occasionally hear this song being played from time to time
She's such an artist. I can't believe how close this sounds to the original. I mean her voice is still amazing. I mean it's been almost 40 years. At the time of this actually 30 years. I mean I love Stevie Nicks voice back in the day and she's still talented but her voice isn't what it once was. Eddie sounds great still unbelievable.
Such a great song! Which is why it was really so satisfying to be able to put this song on a playlist of over 300 songs by female vocalists I recently made for all the fury and frustration we are having right now: : ruclips.net/p/PLtTpAIqD_OG8n9Tl5ufEMsxC-w1hBKAho Let me know if you think of other songs that should be on the Mad as Hell, Frustrated as Fuck playlist!
I love this song, and saw Edie and company perform it live in '89 or '90. But this version didn't really do it for me. The rhythm seemed a little off and the vocals not quite on point. The overall sound of the band seemed sparse, like it's not quite filling up the room.
why does kenny always mess up that studio recording solo?? i'm trying to find a live "what i am" were he does it clean but he comes in late always has to reach down to the pedal or doesn't come in on time then doodles around half ass hitting wrong notes. and on this one edie was annoyed so she missed the pre chorus on purpose because every time kenny's solo is a bunch of bars more than normal comes he has trouble coming in on time. so she purposely missed "choke me in the shallow water" i mean i think it's embarrasing!! maybe you mess up one show or two but every live performance of "what i am" is bad and not only the solo but the other parts too. he hits too many wrong notes. you figured he had to play that song 1000 times so theres no excuse. i love edie brickell. was in love with her words and had a lot of positive memories '88 thru '94. she was an inspiration to me. and me being a bass player 1st, bradley was so good and soulful. i loved the way he would shake his booty to the groove. i actually met him at poplar creek in illinois when they played. edie opened for don henley. and brad went out into the seats and started listening to henley and i went up to him and congratulated him and told him i much i loved his bass lines. he was a super nice guy. i wish i met edie. i was actually by her tour bus, she never came out. and kenny's studio solo is so damn good that i was so impressed that i memorized each part and i could sing it. i mean i dont know what happened but its not good. and a lot of the other songs are played ok on guitar. but edie is still pretty good.
I love this song when it first came out. I was a teen in the 1980s. This song or I should say this version of the song disappointed me. It is speed up faster than the original. The original was relaxed you could roll with the flow of it and it almost enveloped you. From the music to her melodic voice. You could get lost in the song. Not this version. It felt like that they were rushing to get to the end of it. And that has a long term fan of the song really bothered me.
Es verdad no manejó los tiempos a veces los cantantes hacen eso para variar y salir de la monotonía,pero en esta obra de arte musical no debió correr ,debiió respetar los tiempos.
Edie will always be the coolest girl in the room.
As an 80’s / 90’s kid I gotta see this live!! Edie looks and sounds amazing

El guitarrista se pego unas caídas en sus solos y una atravesada del batería. Ella divina.
Still sounds so so good . I'm having an 80s flashback.
I was born in 93. This was still on the radio when I was a kid. Still love it!
I was born in 1985, but when this song came out, I was more into Raffi and Fred Penner.

Glad to see she broke free from that Simon guy. He almost choked the music out of her...
yep, just like he did to a dude named garfunkie or something.
That would be Paul Simon? If so, sorry to sink your boat, they are still together. Happy. and all that boring stuff.
@@shirleyjhoff9052 Guess my boat has been sunk.
They are still together, he's 80 and she's 55.
@@L8nitedave Doing fine? Having drunk physical fights and going to court is fine...?
What I am is what I am
she is living, breathing, a life time of live blossoming artwork. i don’t know how else i could describe her.
She's so baked, haha!
Is the drummer Vinnie Colaiuta?
No idea why she suddenly started singing in a southern accent after 25 years of sounding good
Vaya ustedes si deben sacar al oído de donde es o como se expresa digamos como habla un texano en la películas ?
Great 🍸🍾
😎🎧💓
I allways think they use the talkbox in the guitar but NO😮

Is it choke me in, shove me in or chuck me in??
Choke! Lol. I had to look it up. I thought it was chuck, too!

Really not a great rendition ….rhythm is wrong and sounds really harsh and not true to the vibe of the original.
That's not singing. Talk about being monotone 🤣
Its like a really bad cover of the original
