You’re BY FAR the best plant RUclipsr out here…. Keep it up!!! I’ve been a cultivator and master gardener for a long time (and a self-proclaimed houseplant master lol) and You’re so knowledgeable- I find myself agreeing with your advice and LOVING your recommendations to plant newcomers. And that’s another thing I love- you’re SO WONDERFUL to plant newbies! So many people are snobby to newcomers and we should be helping and Teaching each other become better always!! ❤
Decided to plant my golden pothos outdoors It started climbing on the wall of our house and the leaves have grown so big they’ve started splitting like monsteras🥰
I just watched a week of the Chelsea Flower Show (in the UK). So much beauty from the plants and tips from passionate gardeners. If you were a plant, that would be your natural environment, because no-one was more pleasant, articulate, and lovely to watch and listen to than you are. For the first time ever, my plants are thriving since I started watching your videos……so very many thanks!
I am learning so much from you! I started my plant parent journey a little over a year ago with a plant mortality rate of about 80% (especially for my succulents). Now I'm addicted to adding new plants to the family and you are helping me to keep my babies alive and thriving. Thank you!!
The pilea is such a good choice for beginners. I bought one at random because it looked funny. Had no clue what it was since it was still tiny. Once the whole plant had a size of like a basketball it started to get flowers nearly all year around, even in the winter, when it was really cold inside the house ( 15-18 °C). I had to give it away for moving countries and now i will get 1 or 2 new ones siince i'm in a new climatic zone to experiment with :D Great videos, keep it up boi!
Dude you rock. Wish I had stumbled upon you earlier!! Keeping my house plants alive is such a stress. I will strive to do better under your guidance! Keep being awesome xx
I have a few of these beginner plants by coincidence 😆. I bought them because I liked them but knew nothing about them, which I now know is not a good thing to do, LOL. I have a heartleaf philodendron and and a snake plant that I keep in my classroom. I thought they were thriving because I magically had a green thumb that I didn't know about, but apparently they are just easy to take care of 😅. I'm assuming a little fig isn't a beginner plant as it isn't on this list, but I have one that is loving my bedroom window (Its probably thriving because of something I've done by accident, knowing me). But alack, I now know that aluminum plants are not for beginners. I did everything for my little aluminum plant that just started to die suddenly after having it for 3 months. I still have one little leafless stem that I keep out of denial, but I know it's time to let it go. RIP Titania 😔
Agree 100%!! Lee is such a kind and gentle soul and really looks out of us newbies. I started out with a Jade plant about 9 years ago that I basically ignored for years. I gave it the occasional drink of water, paid no attention to the light requirements, and yet, in spite of my ignorance, it has survived to this day. I'm waiting on ~April to prune it because it looks horrible and I want to start over with it. Actually, it's 3 plants now and growing like a weed. Last summer, though, I got inspired. I bought 3 African Violets in honor of my mom. Then I bought a Golden Pothos and a China Doll. That's all it took, and I was off to the races! I killed my beautiful China Doll by overwatering her because I didn't do my due diligence. I haven't made that mistake again. It took me about 9 months to find another one locally and I bought 2 (just in case). My pothos is easy-peasy to care for and I'm getting ready to put her on a moss pole. I had been pining for a monstera deliciosa and found 3 just rooted on FB Marketplace a few months ago. They're doing wonderfully. I'm trying to decide whether to keep them separate or combine them into one pot. Any suggestions?
Got my answer. 😊 Thank you. I think I got a little carried away during the pandemic and ended up with too many plants… I definitely must not get any more - unless it’s one I don’t own yet 😂.
The progression of learning from the plants is such a great way to organize the information! Now I feel a bit more confident about becoming a plant parent
Great video. I use egg water in my monstera and it started growing like crazy. Funny thing is I don’t really know much about plants but my nana told me to start using egg water from time to time lol. Can you do a video on the benefits of egg water?
This really helped validate my choices, indoors I have several Jade plants, a couple pothos, a peace lily, silver sword philodendron, and a ZZ plant (truly an exercise in patience, she sits chilling under a grow light and is honestly more of a living lamp). I did recently go a bit wild and got an alocasia frydek because FUZZY LEAVES but I am being extremely careful with her as I feel those are a little more advanced. I have a bunch of outdoor alocasia elephant ears but unf I want a snake plant and a monstera for indoors so badly!
I just wanted to say how much I love your videos! I've learned so much from all of them! You have such a calming and informative presence, you really know your stuff, and you are also great at teaching the basics without coming across as condescending. Learning from you is a delight! A big thank you from myself and also from my plants! :D
Great video! I really like the variety that you discuss as well as all of the handy and crucial info about each one. In a video for beginners, this is so important to ensure success. I’m new-ish to plant care and run into a lot of contradicting, confusing info. Your explanations are really clear and just make sense! What a concept! 😍😂
Rotating my plants is my favourite weekly chore (there are a couple who need to be turned more often); a splendid opportunity to admire them while looking after them.
This is such an interesting topic for a video! I also really appreciated getting an insight into how different decisions result in different looking plants. A lot of plant videos I've seen just show you a perfect, happy plant and it's very hard to connect the dots as to why your own scraggly thing didn't turn out that way!
I have had houseplants for decades. And I was even the plant professional for several corporations when that was a thing. However I was just gifted my first monstera and I found you because yours are beautiful. Now I am a fan! Hopefully of the monstera too.
I bought a zz plant about 15 years ago from a guy selling plant out the back of his truck. I had never seen one beforehand. To this day it grows insanely and I have started new plants from it many times. You can definitely not pay to much attention to it and it will still flourish❤
Just discovered your channel last Saturday. Have been consuming your videos but this one... OMG this one it's such an amazing video!!! :-) Thank you for your amazing job. Best from Portugal!
i found your account maybe an hour ago and im already obsessed. you're so knowledgeable and extremely well spoken. i've been heavily into houseplants for 3 years now and i've still learned so much from you.
I have a couple of pathos verities, but they're the only plant on your list that I currently own. By far my favorite plant is the spider plant, but I'm surprising myself with how well I'm managing to get a mini rose plant to grow (I was sure I'd already killed it before I learned some new tricks). I am considering getting a snake plant just because of how popular and hardy they are.
One big, green thumb up! This is a fantastic guide for those new to plants to gain basic plant knowledge on their own. Thank you for sharing your experiences!
Ficus Elastica is easy too. It can handle some neglect better than Benjamina. I grow it in full sun. If you keep it at home in winter it may get sunburn when you take it back outside but who cares. It will grow new leaves.
Your knowledge is amazing. You should write a book, you explain things so well. I was a plant killer and your videos have given me so much instruction on how to care for plants. 😀😘 you are such a joy to watch! Thank you 🙏
My first plant I was able to keep alive was a philodendron scandens. Going on 1.5 years, but unfortunately my son dropped it last week and it broke almost all of its leaves. And now I’m excited to find a zz to take care of until it recovers.
so glad i found this channel! i'm starting to get hooked on plants and want more than the few i have (some jades and spider plants, propagated to some doubles). thanks for all the info!
I started with aloe and blueberries! The latter are outdoor and definitely a more challening child to care for lol. But I got her a partner and transplanted them into a massive terracotta with feet lol; they're gorgeous and we'll have a bumper crop this year! PS: I actually killed my snake plant like three times 😅 (none of the salvaged leaves successfully propagated) it was another one of my earlier gifts.
Just discovered your channel. Love it. Very informative. Why "Kill this Plant" though? How about "Don't Kill this plant"? Anyway, I've learned a ton Listening; keep educating us novice plant lovers!
On a binge of watching your videos. You’re so well spoken and you keep everything simple and easy to understand for any level of a plant parent. Thank you for the work you do, subscribed!!!!
I binged on your videos today and learned lots, thanks! I love the ladder for the plants behind you - did you build it yourself or buy it, and is it worth it?
Thanks for watching! I built it myself. I really like it but due to the weight of it you have to ensure there is a support beam that can handle the weight or have concrete ceilings.
@@KillThisPlant I will have a go! What did you use to join the side plants to vertical ones? Just standard joints like you would for shelving or some wizardry to make it sturdier?
my mom tried to introduce me to gardening for ages with the stuff shed always plant outdoors, she likes being able to run a hose on them and let the earth soak it up and the leaves to flourish under the hot hot sun, but then id proceed to be a nuisance by bringing stuff inside which she didnt want becase itd make a mess, i was a toddler, and she doesnt know how to handle the needs of indoor (or even tropical!) plants, im an adult now and she gave me a tree for my birthday and he got big and fat over three years but suddenly started being sick, then she thought putting it outside in the sun would make it better and it only got worse- now my tree is gone :") but regardless, ever since ive picked back up the curiousity i had as a kid, i love being outdoors but i like being around plants with the privacy of my home so its quiet and peaceful and i can see every single little change every day- a reason to get up in the morning
I just found your page and I love it. You're so precious and wholesome. I grew up with a bunch of plant around our house because my mom gardens. Moving out made me miss that and my momma. So I'm learning. New subscriber :)
I'm pretty desperate to save my monstera, how can I know how many and which leaves to attach to a pole, also when I would place my fingers in the soil it was moist not super dry so I avoid watering for a couple weeks and the leaves are turning brown as soon as they come out, the rest are full of brown edges. I'm determined to become a pro lol love your videos and knowledge.
I had a zz plant that I abused for YEARS and it did just fine, it finally gave up on me a couple of years ago so I bought a new one. I made the mistake of repotting it as soon as I got it (it was literally bursting out of its nursing pot to be fair) and nearly lost it 😅 it's doing ok now but yeah, it loves to be crowded
Thanks! I have killed several plants …… or the cats have chewed on them. I have plans to have them all in one room with better lighting. I really appreciate your advice.
Thanks for watching. I can't really answer that as "all in one" well draining soil for aroids is usually boutique small batch stuff. I would just recommend starting with indoor potting soil and perlite. As cheap as you can find.
I have good luck with Tetrasperma Rhaphidophora. Zz plant never did anything for me. Snake plant loves full sun all day. I know because that's how I grow it. I also grow umbrella tree. It loves full sun all day. Certain kinds of Kalanchoe are easy too.
Thank you do much for all the useful information. I just repotted my Monstera after having it for 2 years, some of the leafs turned yellow. I realised it might be caused by the potting soil I used that does not provide good drainage. Do you think it is a good idea to change the soil considering the plant is so stressful already after the repotting?
check out the most recent video i made on repotting. It sounds like you have low light issues combined with a drainage issue. I would investigate the roots. you can also join our discord community to share pictures. link in the description.
i hate snake plants, cacti and succulent bc i'm an overwater and love too much on my plants : ( lol but that being said, i'm great at calatheas! although they require a lot of attention, i love doting on them xD for me i had to put my zz plant on the top of my bookshelf so i "ignore" it. also my pilea peperomioides hates me! i can't get the care right. i'm trying to cut back and not overwater it, but i also want to give it enough light.
Calatheas are challenging for so many people. That great that you do well with them. Maybe cutting your soil with a higher than normal % of perlite/Orchid bark/Horticultural charcoal would be a good solution for you. That might make your frequent watering more helpful than harmful? Sometimes we have to change our environment to suit our behaviour. Happy growing
@@KillThisPlant thanks for replying! & yeah i’ve started to amend my soil. i use an “orchid mix” of perlite, orchid bark, and charcoal. it seems to be helping them! 🪴
Yeah, I have a Maidenshair Fern, and it's doing better than any of my succulents are other than maybe my Snake plants (which I water every one to two weeks) and my sedums. Like, Idk what is going on with my Echeveria. I accidentally snapped the top off when I was bringing it home because it was stretched out, and it immediately started rotting from the tip. I even trimmed it back a bit further to remove the rot and It looks like it might have started rotting from the cut I made... So yeah. This might end up being the second one I've owned ever, and it might have died from rot again, so that's lovely.
I just need a way for my cat to stop eating her monstera sister!!! Stefanie would be so much more beautiful if Luisa weren't eating the hell out of it!!! Monsteras are an absolute darling for me, though I love golden pothos too ❤️ Love your channel, keep on growing these babies!! 👍🏽🤗
I have a heart leaf philodendron that I want to stake, but does it need something for it to grow its roots into like a moss pole in order for its leaves to stay/get big? Or will a wooden stake be fine? Love your videos! ❤
A moss pole (actual moss, not coco coir) will be slightly better if you're willing to put in the work to keep it consistently moist. Otherwise a plank can be just fine and in general my preferred choice.
My jade bonsai is just growing, anywhere. On a south side balcony in summer? Yes. West facing window middle of winter? Yes. Sprouts. Doesn't care 😂 However I really don't like snake plants or pothos (I don't like monstera deliciosa either but don't tell anyone)
Instead of monstera adansonii, would raphidophora tetrasperma be a good option to teach one about climbing plants? I'm personally not much of a fan of the look of the adansonii
After I brought my lushious Marble Queen Pathos home... Some of the leaves turned dry brown on the tips and/ or edges. Any thoughts ? I don't feel that she got too dry. Thank You. 🌄
How long did this take? When you brought it home what did you do to it? Eg. Did you repot it? Did you put it in direct sun outdoors? Did you have extreme temperatures?
0:23 / 12:18 I have a PHILODENDRON SELLOUM, the leaves are drooping but they are healthy...should I prop them on a plank or stick to stop them from drooping?
If your leaves are drooping, not because they're underwatered and just thirsty, it's probably a root related issue. Propping up the plant won't necessarily fix that.
While I don't actually have an Syngoniums, I would say the most likely culprit would be overwatering. What kind of soil are you using? Looking around for more info I'm finding that any kind of aroid soil mix that drains faster works well.
@@bamboozled1668 interesting. Maybe Cactus isn't the right medium. Maybe a mix of 40% potting, 30/30 Cactus Perlite? If you have time maybe you can propagate and experiment with a few different combinations.
I have a Syngonium Berry Allusion. I was having problems with yellowing leaves. I decided to place a moss pole and attached the base of the plant with a little twine to help support the plant to the moss pole. Not sure if this helped with the yellowing problem, but I haven't witnessed any yellowing since. The plant is doing quite well now. I have a lot of new growth at the base and the plant is looking really good!
My Jade plant has lost all it's leaves. I've noticed there are lil bids on the end of the stems! I water once a month & turn the plant every Monday so the light is even. It sits in front of the East window where the light & sun comes in in the mornings....... Please help me understand why my leaves fell off & does the buds mean new leaves are coming?....Thank You!!!!
@@KillThisPlant I don't have IG.... I believe I give too much water when I water it. I'm not gonna water til Sept. to see what happens. The stem of plant is green & looks health. Thank you . I will let you know what happens next month. Peace......
@@judithcoleman-bey4684 it could be! Jades need a lot of sun and to dry out fairly quickly. A good mix of a well draining soil, correct pot size, high light, and making sure the leaves are ready to take in more water is key.
@@KillThisPlant ahh, that would make sense. i wasn't expecting a reply so i thank you. i'll try to move plants around to get the marble queen more light.

I really like your videos. Very informative. Do you have any advice on propagating snake plants?
I had a zz plant that I abused for YEARS and it did just fine, it finally gave up on me a couple of years ago so I bought a new one. I made the mistake of repotting it as soon as I got it (it was literally bursting out of its nursing pot to be fair) and nearly lost it 😅 it's doing ok now but yeah, it loves to be crowded
Thanks! I have killed several plants …… or the cats have chewed on them. I have plans to have them all in one room with better lighting. I really appreciate your advice.
I hope the advice helps. Thank you so much for the Super Thanks! That is so kind of you.
great explanation and video overall!! ❣
Love this channel
I think I need to.rearrange plants, I think my jade needs more light. I'm giving my neighbor some plants today to make room
What is the best budget friendly well draining soil? Thank you. I just found your channel and am really enjoying your videos!
Snakes plants can adjust to so many conditions. What a great plant!
I have all except or the monsteras and the peperomia.
This is a fantastic video - thanks 👍
I have a heart leaf philodendron that I want to stake, but does it need something for it to grow its roots into like a moss pole in order for its leaves to stay/get big? Or will a wooden stake be fine? Love your videos! ❤
A moss pole (actual moss, not coco coir) will be slightly better if you're willing to put in the work to keep it consistently moist.
Otherwise a plank can be just fine and in general my preferred choice.
can pothos be transplanted to a fish tank which has water presumably filled with nutrients (from fish waste)?
💚
My jade bonsai is just growing, anywhere. On a south side balcony in summer? Yes. West facing window middle of winter? Yes. Sprouts. Doesn't care 😂
However I really don't like snake plants or pothos (I don't like monstera deliciosa either but don't tell anyone)
Instead of monstera adansonii, would raphidophora tetrasperma be a good option to teach one about climbing plants? I'm personally not much of a fan of the look of the adansonii
Yup grows super fast too. Too fast even 😬
That plant grows wild in my backyard, they also crawl up my big trees and grows giant leaves 🍃....
I'm curious about the stuff (@1403/4 mark) you dipped the clipping of the sharing plant in...does it make the plant root faster?
Yes, that's rooting hormone.
Thank you KTP

I have a PHILODENDRON SELLOUM, the leaves are drooping but they are healthy...should I prop them on a plank or stick to stop them from drooping?
If your leaves are drooping, not because they're underwatered and just thirsty, it's probably a root related issue. Propping up the plant won't necessarily fix that.
Any tips on Syngonium or Arrowheads? Keep getting yellowing leaves; online advice contradictory...either under or over-watering???? Help how do I kno?
While I don't actually have an Syngoniums, I would say the most likely culprit would be overwatering. What kind of soil are you using? Looking around for more info I'm finding that any kind of aroid soil mix that drains faster works well.
@@KillThisPlant I've been using Black Gold Cactus mix, which I further cut with their perlite..so don't think drainage an issue?
@@Upgrade Thanks for the tip! Have them on bookshelf under grow lights, was going to get to trail down..but maybe staked up is an option
Anybody know where he got that rope ladder style planter in the back?
I built it!
Where do you get your plants? Big box stores or a nursery?
I try to shop locally and family run when I can afford it.
"I double checked and it is required by law" why did this make me laugh out loud for real lol
How often are your watering it?
@@KillThisPlant
I water once a month.....
@@judithcoleman-bey4684 maybe send me pictures on Instagram. I'd have to see the size of the plant, pot size and ask s few more questions.
@@KillThisPlant
I don't have IG....
A good mix of a well draining soil, correct pot size, high light, and making sure the leaves are ready to take in more water is key.
my hawaiian pothos is growing like mad but my neon and queen marble are not growing at all.
Neon, especially, is a notoriously slow grower. Marble queens may need more light due to the lack of chlorophyll on the white parts of the leaves.
@@KillThisPlant ahh, that would make sense. i wasn't expecting a reply so i thank you. i'll try to move plants around to get the marble queen more light.
Jade plant should be renamed to the "Shrek" plant. LOL
If any one is worried about the cost of plants and killing them, I recommend just liberating the plants from big box stores!! Just practice jogging so you can get them to your loving home safe and sound. Plants deserve to be free from baalmart
Good thing I have a chinese money plant that I've managed to keep alive... Almost all these plants are toxic for cats D: I'll have to find other additional plants to develop a green thumb 🙈
I thought pothos was pronounced pothos
Tough to kill lol i manage to kill fake plants but I'll try some if these I really want indoor plants
Dracaena Janet Craig’s are simple as well. You can almost neglect them and they will thrive 😂
