What's crazy is that they're charging NYCC prices but not giving a NYCC experience.

I know this comment was 6 months ago. Did you see the new "400$" experience 😅😂 they tried but the inclusive is NOT even close to nycc level .... it's a joke . I'm surprised people actually purchase it

@@infinitetomato that's ok, I'm responding a year later lol. at least they did a better job last year and this year they're opening up the entire javits center and including PlayNYC

went the first 3 years to Anime NYC. with the price of tickets now I will never go again. I paid $56 the first year for a 3 day pass now its more than triple for with individual passes if your not the lucky few who got the 3 day pass for a decent price.

The attendance excuse is laughable because of what NYCC does the month before at the same location. AnimeNYC clearly doesn't have the staff to handle it or is poorly managed

I hope this year they do better. I've been going every year except the 1st year. It's a fun con but it is a little on the expensive side especially compared to NYCC which charges the same price. It's true btw it doesn't use the whole convention center you would think they would open up more of the place

I went there last year or rather tried to. You see, I didn't originally intend to go to this but my friend roped me into it so I reluctantly bought the tickets and expected to have a least a decent time. However, it all went sour when we arrived. The line was very long and not to mention how cold it was especially located near a river. I thought I could wait it out but it took about 2 hours for me to call it quits and get out of there. My friend tried to convince me to stay but I was already mad about wasting 2 hours in a line that barely moved and also wasting money for the pass and the trip from NJ. And the cherry on top, I got a cold for waiting out in freezing temperatures for so long. Needless to say, it was a terrible experience and I'm not going again this year. My friend is but he'll think twice before asking me.

Honestly the fact that they did this is not bad thing, i went last year and first hand experienced how bad the line was on Friday and on later days spoke to some staff while waiting on panel lines and got told they were understaffed for the amount of people that showed up, so if anything they doing good by not letting so many people show up only for them to have a horrible experience, and instead cap the limit to something more manageable for both the staff and the people going, i dont think going on a rant and saying animenyc sucks just cuz they arent as well managed and stablished as comicon is not in anyway helpful, but hey you can have opinions too i guess

Ok, so this is coming from someone who grew up in NYC. NYC anime conventions were never as profitable as Comicon. This was apparent when the 2008 recession, blowing the formerly known as Anime Festival, not AnimenNYC out of the water. Giving the anime experience over to NYC Comicon from the years of 2010-2018. I am assuming Anime NYC is struggling like AnimeFestival but in a different way. They are not using all of Javits, I think then this makes it obvious that they cannot afford to use the entire Javits Center? I may be wrong about that. But why they would not use the entire halls like Comicon makes no sense. As like you said, why would they cut attendance in half. So I assume cutting attendance in half with how much they can afford, I guess makes sense. Because they clearly could not hold all those people in such a small space. And that may be why their charging more to make a profit less attendance means driving their prices up. That way they don't charge less, for less space, with more attendees. That is what I am thinking.

I really wanna go but I’m in a wheelchair so organizing for my type of con goer is already abysmal.
Maybe I’ll get a Saturday Pass.

This video has opened my eyes. I wanted to go this year because certain companies will be there that always seem to just...forget Washington DC exists? New York seemed to be my easiest and most accessible option. I already found it suspicious that the badges were limited to such a low number. Now that I know the full extent of the situation this just makes it even worse. Saturday would've been the most convenient day to go but that was sold out all the way back in the summer. So now I'm going Friday. There are so many choices that are so questionable. While I can get over the limited tickets it seems like they've chosen to just....solve the wrong problem. Why not make strides to be more efficient? This year they said they have a covid vaccine check point that can handle 20,000 guests an hour. Well now you only have 20,000 guests...why not just implement that without severely limiting attendance?
I get that money can be an issue with running cons but why not staff more people. If that requires you to raise the price than so be it. For such a high profile convention it has so many management issues. They required you to purchase badges by mail this year which should also get rid of the line and yet they are still limiting attendance. Now they are trying to solve a problem they hypothetically shouldn't even have.
And there are so many other thing about the con that make it a pain in the ass to deal with. It feels like I'm planning for a trip to Disney world. I have to enter a lottery to get into panels, I have to enter a lottery to get certain autographs. I have to plan everything before hand because I need to register for all of it before I go, I can't just go. But this solution is on top of the fact that only 20,000 people will even be there. And the hours of the convention are such weird times too. Why is the convention only 6 hours on Friday?
The final nail in the coffin is that the badge prices are a little dishonest. The price is advertised as $65 but they add so many extra fees that its actually around $100. Why add an extra fee to pay for cleaning the building? Shouldn't that be factored into the price of the badge? Why was the shipping so much and you had to pay extra for tracking when you are shipping through USPS? I get that I don't understand the nuances of the situation but just advertise the price as higher if I have to pay $30 more than what is listed. I'll try to enjoy myself this year but I don't see myself going back again. I'll get to see a the people and booths that I wouldn't normally have the chance to and accept it. All of this is so much considering that I have to take a 5 hour bus ride to get there in the first place, idk if its worth doing again.

I agree with the preparation and planning needed for conventions like this one. Tbh I'm not even the biggest fan of massive cons because I feel like my schedule is so rigid in an attempt to beat massive crowds and see the things/people I want. I feel like it takes away from the fun atmosphere of a convention. But that's not always the conventions fault, that just comes with the high attendance.
I'd like to hear your experience of Anime NYC 2022. I wonder if they're just downsizing it for 2022 so they don't get as much criticism as last year. Then they'll run 2023 as packed as they ran 2021, but pretending like they learned to handle the crowds of 2022 (even though the crowd will be much MUCH smaller).

I know i'm suuuuuuper late but I have a love-hate relationship with ANYC, it's the few Anime/Comic Cons that are held in NYC area and I hate it as it needs a lot of work and making small businesses pay $300 per day for wifi, 2023 was really mid as it was the same guests and it felt smaller, hopefully this year it will be better with the expansion at the con, more guests, and it will be held in the summer (though I know some people are against it)
