  • This is a live chat Interview with Darin Morgan, He has 36 plus years of racing experience, engine, and cylinder head development. He now joins Tony Bischoff, and the crew at BES, Bischoff Racing engines. He will talk about the basics of cylinder head flow. Talk about why everyone mentions port flow, when ever cylinder heads are compared, or discussed. Talk about what is important about port volume. Valve shrouding, moving valve locations. Things you should look for a set of aftermarket cylinder heads. Boundaries, harmonics, it will get into topics from basic to advanced. DRCE Drag Race Competition Engine. What is interested on the heads. Maybe not all at this initial chat. Thanks you Darin Morgan and Tony Bischoff, and the team at BES..Stay tuned.

    Tim, so sorry to have missed your live chat with Darin last evening. I just listened to it in its entirety. Amazing information and detail! A couple of brief comments. The word "combination" was prevalent throughout your conversation. THAT is the key to success with anything that is comprised of more than one component. When a compatible and symbiotic relationship is achieved, success follows. To the laymen out there, don't be scared off by your thoughts of not being smart enough and not understanding some of the technical aspects and jargon within a particular discipline. We have experts like Darin that not only know and can explain with clarity the technicalities of flow, V.E., quench, ratios, etc. but can also put that knowledge into practice. That's why the rest of us have to be just smart enough to call on a true expert to keep from messing up. I learned that lesson from a well-known automatic transmission expert, Gil Younger, the founder of "Transgo" in California. He race-modified a Ford FMX tranny for me back in 1971 and it still works flawlessly. Previously, I had two other transmission shops try their hand at it with no success. Gil told me some really good auto transmission techs can do rebuilds but don't have the slightest idea of how the most complex inner workings of a transmission function. He said when you find someone who knows the science and theory behind something AND can act on it you've found a true expert. One last thing...That Wright Brother's piston ring of Darin's symbolizes ingenuity as it once was AND the ingenuity that YOU are helping to recreate. Looking forward to the future, Tim.

    • @DragBoss351Cleveland
      @DragBoss351Cleveland  3 года назад +1

      Bill thanks so much for the kind words and words of wisdom. So much to be said about matching parts, not only more reliable and compatible, but organized together. You get it. Yes combination was used throughout. It’s like putting a puzzle together. When pieces are missing hard to predict, and experts like to be sure. So it is hard to answer particular questions on broad description and lack of info. Especially with time and media constraints. When I used to work in a transmission shop we used Gill Younger. I am more of a technician, not an expert in function. Some guys do have the touch. I remember his pic with brush cut on the outside of the box. Yes sir, I remember r and r transmissions, and going to school at night at the same time. Trying to figure what I can do, as wrenching was not going to cut it. I also was blown away by the piston ring also, what it represents. Almost an analogy with pro stock racing, in the early years, ingenuity, determination, failure, and success. Thank you for the kind words, and that you see, something like that in me. I am honored. You said you wanted to send me something, by email? Thpa351@gmail. Wedge head big blocks and valve size matching all comes together with a 383 Mopar. It's a happy engine. All its bigger cousins are lazier and harder to tune. Mostly ditto the 390 FE. Once the FE gets bigger, the harder it gets to make it run well on the full street RPM range.

That is what makes the BBC run as well as it does, it is not inherently under valved. @@DragBoss351Cleveland Absolutely. Good machine shops have been handling motorcycle heads for decades and semi-hemi and porcupine heads were on motorcycle engines from the 1930's. The machine shops that got to rebuild these could see the advantages, so could the automotive design engineers. Were Glidden stepped up was showing how to make it work 4-in-a-row and with water jackets. That's juggling more variables than an MC engine ... 🙃
