Long time since I enjoyed a video so much. 40 year ago when living in my home town Sunderland the family all had plots, when shows were at every working men’s clubs. The wonderful memories of preparing veg and flowers came flooding back. Many thanks to you both for being smashing old fashioned, meant in the kindest way, gardeners. Time I dropped back to my roots and get shot of shop bought plant foods.

What a great video. 2 nice chaps discussing a very interesting aspect of allotmenteering. You were great with your questioning to coax some secrets out of the master grower. Rule number 1? Mash plenty of comfrey and nettles. Does he have a separate allotment to grow those?

    • @MuddyBootz
      @MuddyBootz  3 года назад +1

Hello, Neil has two plots adjacent to each other and tends to grow the giants on one side of the plot 👍

    Hello Nigel.
Thank you Nigel for taking the time to visit this amazing, modest gentleman and making this interesting video.
He mentioned that he has only been on the plot 3 to 4 years. What achievement he has done in that short time, not only giant veg but the amount of Dahlias he is growing. And no hidden secrets.
Take care, keep safe and keep smiling. Cheers. Pete.

Thanks for filming that mate really interesting. Well done to Neil on his giant red cabbage he's growing some top-notch giant veg. Just shows you don't need all those fancy feeds and gadgets. You just need the right strain of giant veg seeds. Does Neil have a RUclips channel?. thanks for taking the time and filming at Nigel. All the best Nic 👍

Great video mate. I hope Neil does well in the shows. My longest runner (so far) has stopped at 26" 😞.
Good watering advice at the end! You would not believe the number of people who pop up to their plot - spray the whole plot in 10 minutes flat and go home. Then they wonder why nothing is growing well!!
    Have a great weekend

Here is an idea for another video with Neil Hands.
1 Introduce allotment growing and use of fertilisers
2 demonstrate mixing comfrey and nettles
3 Show outstanding results in Large cabbage
4 Then, bring the focus onto flowers in his garden eg Marigold , Calendula, chrysanthemums and Dahlias
    Best Wishes!

From Australia, what a great video. What you are doing here is giving voice to those ‘quiet achievers’ in the allotment sector in England. Let us have more of these videos, please. You are also showing us the perfect anti-dote to the craziness in these pandemic times. And you are showing us what is important in life…growing fresh food for one’s family. What a great set up he has. He fertilizes using only comfy and nettles!

What a great video. How interesting. Although I would like to have a stab at specialised growing, I'll concentrate on getting produce over the line first. Thank you for showing us around. Domestos is a new one. I remember my dad taking me to a flower show for Gladiolas and he would tell me not to talk to anyone as they would question me how my dad grew things laugh. No grower would tell another grower what their secret ingredient was laugh.
