I love my VS-2480. I still use it even thought I have a pro audio computer, audio interface etc. The vs2480 is great, no latency, excellent sound. Sounds a lot better than pro tools.
These are such great machines. I have two(VS2000) connected together. The price drop in the used market is unreal. I detest computer set ups. So this was and has been perfect for me. The sound quality is excellent. The VS2000 does not use compression. The 2480 uses compression if you utilize all of the tracks. I don't know how Roland did it but their RDAC compression doesn't sound bad. Several professional recordings have been done on them. Too bad VSplanet is down.
1) Look I am the dumbest person in the world to learn stuff like that, specially from the scratch! But I just dived into it man! I recall the day I got my two 2480s as if it were today! I didn't know even where the "turn on" button was! I remember telling my wife progressively: "Honey, I've already figured 3% of it!"... Two days later: "Honey, I've already figured 10% of it..." and stuff like that. I READ the manual a lot, and made a LOT of call to Roland. Months later, I finished an entire CD.
Does this lady do more presentations of the vs2480 on other aspects of using it. She would be good to take you from initial out of box to finish say a 12 track recording. I need to see exactly how to install Roland discrete drums and use them in a recoding.
What you're looking for is the VS-2480 VIDEO OWNER"S MANUAL.... Roland USA produced it years ago. That was my former life. From: The lady in the above video.
@davidlanham99 I think the reason for that's because those instruments are hooked up to the Guitar Hi Z inputs. they give you a better sound signals for those sorts of instruments
I have the Roland VS-2400CD, Roland VS-2480CD & Tascam SX-1LE. Of all the 3, SX-1LE is the winner for its sound quality and user-friendly interface. The Roland machines are more complex if u r a starter, but their portability come in handy for mobile applications. However, I've spent less and less time on these machines as computer-based DAWs have gained more attention with their endless capabilities & technological advances. Studio One, Cubase, Nuendo, Wavelab, Live, FL Studio are sum o my fav.
I have the VS-2400CD and haven't used it like that as yet, and I'am about to get 1 of this big boys (I'am sooo fricking excited to be able to do professional live recording and mixing in this enviorment) and ofcourse I'll be tieing them in digitaly together to have a whole lot of recording tracks and Inputs
It's ALL in ONE BOX thats what it does Audio & very well I had the VS 1680 used it for yrs till it got stolen. Never!!!! Had never had an issue not ONE fail not one glitch. To bad they quit making them @ the end they had the 3dr party plug in's from UAD...& the internal FX is 56 bit you don't get that in Pro Tools or any thing that I know of in a DAW , I've did commercials to Live bands, Albums on that little mach. & this mach has no compression on the Audio file the older ones did like mine did
Go to Tick Bryan Band and check out some of my recordings on an 1880 I bought 6 years ago. It took me about a month to figure it out. Very frustrating. I use an out board cd recorder for my final mastering. I had to invent my own short cuts to navigate the thing. It has worked flawlessly the past 6 years. I upgrated to a 15 gig hardrive I bought off ebay. Great machine but hard to master.
Great machines, but if you actually saw her loading drum loops from disc, setting up the auto arrange, or saving anything, the demo would come to a grinding halt. So so slow. It's strange because the Akai product of the same era could switch between projects in roughly 2 seconds and require no saving before shutdown, not to mention scrolling waveforms in real time and doing sample level editing. Whatever. I love them both.
HI,name is james i am a fan of VS2480.I like to upgrade my ROLAND VS2480,is the plug in is and loops drums, and some plug instrument will help a lot.I recorded a song and i master but i need it to change some of the sound but it is to late ,I cant go back to change it .can you give me some pointers idea since am a big fan of ROLAND VS2480.TNKS.HEAR F.U.SOON.
Yes Go to vsplanet.com and download the program that does this. Load it to pc and then burn the files to disk. You can drop them into any computer daw, e.g., protools, sonar, reaper, etc. Great program written by some guys who wanted to be able to work with files on computer.
Save your file as a data master(with music and mixing)and set it aside. Then,at anytime, you can go back and change anything-but before you do,LABEL YOUR CHANNELS, VTRACKS, SCENES, AND LOCATORS or you will get lost trying to where everything was-true,everything is saved,it so much easier to go back to a project that is labeled. I've had my 2480 since the day they came out,but I don't use samples,so the plug ins they use in the video are kinda foreign to me.Keep in touch,I hope this helps you...
Thats The Woman thats the Brains behind The VS Recorders you bet she a genius. I just I wish I could find out how to get VS files into Pro Tools since my 1680 got stolen I went to PT9 cause They don't make the VS line anymore yea Laura Tyson is THE WoMAN!
@taxman806 Only a fool would get rid of it. Hey maybe you could help me. If I hookup my VS-2400CD to a VS-2480 would i be able to use 24 input channels and 48 Recording tracks?
When you say back up files,do you mean data?To my knowledge, you would need to get a hold of a VS unit to do anything with that info.So sorry to hear about that,it's bad enough to lose info...it's alot worse to have gear stolen.
I own a 2480 but just use it basically as a very expensive interface. lol This video makes it all look too easy! I have had mine for 7 yrs and still don't know all the features. I'll never get rid of it though.
@smincer I have a 2400CD rightnow and haven't turned it on like in 2 months or so, but I'm about to get a 2480 and connect them 2 digitaly together to have more tracks and input channel to work with because I'am about to do a live recording in a few weeks with a church choir and i want to have all the input channels and recording tracks in the world to work
Thx but I don't have a PC that's running , I went Mac a few yrs ago. do you know if anyone over there @ the Planet have written a program for Mac or anywhere else. Roland & other Big Co need to cont. to supply support for gear / Software i.e. M-Audio / Avid Will NOT be updating drivers for a $1200 pice of Gear I bought just two years ago new? Roland should have supplied a program Yrs Ago. , Man I have a LOT of Albums on back up's, I had a band wanted to do a remix but I can't money lost.
Labeling with info and a date on the disc itself isn't a bad practice either-you will accumulate 1000s if you are anything like me...nothing fancy,a black fine point Sharpie works best...
I can't believe how many people still use hard disk recorders and pay the prices that people ask... for what some of you paid 1200+ you could have got a M-box and pro tools and would be able to record the right way...and if you don't have a computer you could have got the Mac mini set up at guitar center for 900 bucks and had even better stuff
I have been using pro tools since 2001, version 5.1. Currently on 12.7. And after all these years I have spent way more than what one of these machines cost. They are cheap now on eBay. They have their limitations but, they are built for one thing only. You don't have to worry about keeping up with updates nor latency, I started my recording journey in a Roland vs 880ex. The vs2480 looks like a great machine for tracking. Mixing and mastering I would still prefer Pro Tools.
Crazy isn’t it? I’ve been using Cubase with universal audio apollo and simply fed up with the latency issues and dropouts, sold that and have just bought one of these for £350, with great quality audio, upgraded it to a ssd card so it’s quicker, just gotta get the level 3 plugins! It’s limited but that pushes your creative side- simply amazing
I love my VS-2480. I still use it even thought I have a pro audio computer, audio interface etc. The vs2480 is great, no latency, excellent sound. Sounds a lot better than pro tools.
Do you still use your VS-2480 today?
I love this machine, I just wish Roland would bring out an updated model w/ huge hard drive, USB, and computer link friendly. That would be awesome!
Ahhh it's nice seeing and hearing a lady for once demonstrate a multi tracking daw. Even if it was over a decade ago!! 🤔
These are such great machines. I have two(VS2000) connected together. The price drop in the used market is unreal. I detest computer set ups. So this was and has been perfect for me. Lmaaoooo
It's November 2020 and I recently bought a vs2480. I have no idea how to operate it. This gives me hope.
how did that go? I'm looking at it. aesthetically attractive.
I gave up and sold it.

Too cool, I wish she could come over and help me with my VS-2480, this unit is obviously capable of much more than what I'm doing with it.

Yes,she is a wizard on the VS.
Are plugins for these machines still available?
Hello I have a question : How can I quantize some tracks of acoustic instruments like drums and things like that?
Yes Go to vsplanet.com and download the program that does this. Load it to pc and then burn the files to disk. You can drop them into any computer daw, e.g., protools, sonar, reaper, etc. Great program written by some guys who wanted to be able to work with files on computer.
Hey do you know how to convert VS audio files from VS-1680 backup files to wav. files so I can import them into Pro Tools , I lost my 1680 to theft.
Why are the guitars on lines 15 and 16 and the mic on line 1? Why not just use 1, 2, and 3?
Save your file as a data master(with music and mixing)and set it aside. Then,at anytime, you can go back and change anything-but before you do,LABEL YOUR CHANNELS, VTRACKS, SCENES, AND LOCATORS or you will get lost trying to where everything was-true,everything is saved,it so much easier to go back to a project that is labeled.

man it's year 2000, what can you expect from a combination of highqualy preamps+multichannels+builtin REALTIME Effects +Sequencer +drums ?

yep, get a computer and then spend time dicking around with latency issues, software updates, shitty midi timing, OS updates and more!
Have to laugh Do you need a stand for a guitar ?
do you wanna sell it?
hey
