Ever since Kathleen Kennedy and Leslye Headland’s The Acolyte was cancelled, the cast themselves haven't said much - that changed with Amandla Stenberg, who just said too much, revaling whom she blames for this, but most importantly, the full extent of the Hollywood echo chamber, where the algorithm is blamed and used as a thought stopping mechanism, something we've seen before, with Kevin Smith, following Masters of the Universe: Revelation!

When you're constantly praised, pampered, and surrounded by false affirmation, even mild criticism can seem like hate.
Under ordinary circumstances, I'm sure she's in a bubble. Then the process of making a film requires that you either view it as just a paycheck or you psyche yourself up over the quality or opportunity that a project represents. Headland seems to want to be a colaborative director (even to the point of tasking her actors with forming characters from nothing). If the director is showing trust, that's going to feel flattering. If you perform for the director and that entails a level of vulnerability, it might kinda tend to develop a level of intimacy. If you look at interviews, Headland touches Amandla's arm. For me, 99.99% of people who touch my arm with that level of familiarity are getting a bloody stump back.
Headland hired people from her ideological set and her friends. They had an odd party funded by Disney for a year or two. If headland and her friends are under the impression that they're making great art and making a grand cultural declaration, Amandla would probably be suckered in. If Headland is stroking her arm and cooing at her that her performance was wonderful, it would be tempting to believe it. If you were an actor and your director was telling you that you were better than Daniel Day Lewis and had the cultural urgency of MLK, then your brain might be inclined to reject that the sense of being ascendent and the triumphalism was all a cruel joke.
It's probably hard. I'd assume actors struggle with being criticised when they're older and more experienced than her, without the production being - in their heads - a referendum on their identity.

Indeed. Being born with a silver spoon in a mouth and having people (perhaps even their parents) kissing their ass is more susceptible to become weak later in life. Amandla is evidence of that.

I don't take most of the Left seriously. I mean when people who claim to hate someone or something yet can't point to a single rational or reasonable example or reason why. There was a video of a young woman and a court judge. She was in trouble, orange jumpsuit and all, but she wouldn't stop giggling and flicking her hair until the judge landed her a sentence. Things got real for her and she stopped with the nice routine fast.

She’s an actress, she’s being paid to be something that she’s not. She chose to be true to her self as an actress and not pretend to be something that she’s not. She chose to be an advocate pretending to be an actress. That’s her choice and failure.

They don’t want to make good content because that takes a lot of work. For instance when they made Lord of the Rings they had to design different armor for each race, but also different designs for members of the race living in different areas (Gondor had different armor than Rohan, etc), and then they had different versions for different time periods. These people don’t want to put in anywhere near that level of attention to detail. They just want to crank out content like they’re McDonalds and they expect people to just eat it up because of the franchise name. They don’t want to learn from their mistakes, they want to do the bare minimum and just coast on the success of the existing IPs they’re using.

The only criticism I've seen towards Amandala regarding the show is her wooden acting. Do you know who else got a lot of flack for that? Hayden Christiansen. You know what he didn't do? Dis the fans or whine about it. Now, he's much more appreciated today.
Compared to Amandla, Hayden was Shakespearean! His problem was that Anakin acted like a psycho, and while everyone else looked like a fool for not noticing how unhinged he was, the psycho part was actually well played, it was the dissonance between the playing and the story that made it look so bad. Whereas Amandla is just... bland.
@@irena4545 Great point. Hayden's performance of an emotionally disturbed teenage boy was spot on. The problem was all the other characters acting as if he was sane. That's a problem with the script, not the actors.

I don't think Hayden Christiansen was the problem with Anakin Skywalker. The writing and direction was TERRIBLE. It wasn't his fault the script was retarded.
@@irena4545I would add that the dialogue was simply bad as Natalie Portman, an Oscar winning actress, was also acting very wooden in the Prequels. Personally I always thought that Hayden was an ok actor, but the script didn’t do him any favors (him not being allowed to play Anakin in the first movie, when the audience was actually supposed to like him, a fundamental part of any downfall story, was imo again a terrible decision).

When someone tries to make themselves look like they’re the smartest person in the room, it’s safe to assume that they’re not. An intelligent person would understand the best way to communicate themselves isn’t always with the fanciest words, it’s the meaning behind what you’re saying that determines if it’s an intelligent statement or not. As someone who’s moderately intelligent it’s always bothered me when people try to act like they’re incredibly smart, most of the times they’re just spewing a word salad if you can parse what they’re actually saying.

I went through something similar as a kid: Family and friends kept insisting that my drawings were good, and my family especially insisted that those that didn't like my work were "just jealous." As I got older, I couldn't help but notice how much better others were compared to me, even those friends and family that kept gushing about how good I was. They insisted that my drawings were "just fine the way they are" or that it was "just [my] style". They refused to even _hint_ that I needed to improve.
By the time I join a career center, I'm *completely* out of my depth. Yet even still, I'm getting the same comments. Even the critiques were softball; the teacher was the only one to point out anything helpful. When I rightfully point out to other students how much better they are than me, they told me to stop being "negative" and again told me that it was my "style". And the exact same thing happened even in college.
Even though I always had this inkling in the back of my head that something was off, I was young and dumb, so I always just kept doing what I always did. I never sought to really push myself to improve. And because of that, when I finally matured enough to snap out of it and realize people were just being nice, I was WAY behind where I should have been. It hurt. It genuinely felt like a betrayal: Like I had been lied to my whole life or that I was intentionally being set up for failure. After all, you don't even have to be good to be certified. I passed that career center course for digital design...even though I'm borderline illiterate when it comes to technology. I have literally _never_ properly understood Photoshop, yet I have a certificate that says that I do.
The whole thing also made me EXTREMELY distrustful of compliments even to this day. I literally can't "just take the compliment" because they've become hollow and meaningless, or they feel like someone trying to kiss up and get something from me.
People say it's "mean", but the only times I improved where the times someone had the balls to tell me I what I sucked at. I'd LOVE to have a Gordon Ramsey type to regularly tear me a new one. XD
*TL;DR:* Constantly telling someone how great they are for the sake of being "nice" or for their self-esteem is actually VERY damaging in the long run. Honesty is best, and pointing out negatives helps to get them fixed!

Critical Diverse Woman made a comment on her channel that I think sums it up: when Amandla was a child, she was subject to real vitriol and bigotry when she was cast as Rue in The Hunger Games. People made actual racist remarks and displayed real bigotry. Perhaps this exposure at such a young age means she's incapable of hearing anything else - you're either her friend or you hate her for being Black.
