    3:05 the studs between studs has actually been used by official LEGO kits! It was used for shrubbery in the LEGO architect White House kit.

      Case in point: the Tokyo set I got recently. When building Tokyo Tower, the second section just rests on the bottom section with the studs upside-down (with grille plates covering the bottom of the second section - just a rod holds it in place.

      I can stretch my pinky-finger and my thumb very far apart. It's probably from piano playing. Also, I can slightly bend the end-segments of my index fingers if I touch them both together at the tips and apply pressure.

      The definition of illegal building techniques is that it puts stress on the pieces. Since it does not apply to this technique, it is not illegal. Also, I am pretty sure I have seen it with official models.

    Number five is actually not an illegal Lego building technique, but just one of the most common unconventional building techniques Lego uses in their sets.

      yeah, and the issue with number six can be fixed by simply using the newer clips that look like a minifig hand, as they are a bit wider, and because of that, don't put stress on the plate like the old ones do.

      Only n°4 and 7 are illegal. All the others are fine. Illegal doesn't mean unconventional, it means that it puts stress on lego pieces. Number 6 is illegal with the old version of the "claw" but not with this one

      Some used to be, but aren't anymore - like the "tile in clip" one (newer clips have a slightly different shape that works for it), or are illegal in certain contexts, like the "stud in technic hole" (not illegal to put a stud there for decoration, but illegal to use for a structure that reconnects studs to the technic part since it's _slightly_ misaligned).

      It is legal as the LEGO Mario sets have the technique in the instructions and the Creator 3 in 1 Townhouse/Toy Store uses it for the toy plane in the Toy Shop build and a couple other places.

      LEGO has standardised size on every pieces. Anything that passes 1/500 mm margin is rejected and put back into mold.

      Many illegal building techniques were once used in offical Lego kits. They probably proved too difficult to make safe for the bricks, so Lego made them illegal.

      First, eight and ninth were used in sets and I'm pretty sure they're not illegal. Although I may be wrong.
      Firth and sixth were used in few old sets. However back then there were no such term as illegal techniques. Only later Lego started testing those connections.

    The fact that those pieces stuck together exactly accurate in many different ways its not coincidence, Lego creators made it intentionally, its mindblowing how accurate and geometrical connected Lego is.

    4:28 That is actually fairly common in official lego kits, a lot of cars use that for the lights, because you can put a transparent red one in front of a light, because the lights don't stick all the way through the hole. all those things are purposefully designed by lego. Nothing in this video is a coincidence, the design of lego is just that smart.

      @@qwerty_qwerty That's exactly my point. The inventors are smart. All measurements are precisely calculated to support all things that should be possible. That's why lego is so fascinating, because it's not just thrown together, but carefully developed to be exactly perfect. Everything that looks like a coincidence (or "illegal") is just a result of those fundamental dimensions. Basically, in other words, there are no illegal techniques, only those, that seem unintended to the untrained eye.

    3: likely legal
    4: illegal
    5: it'd be difficult for younger kids to build, but I think it might actually be legal
    6: as show, illegal. If it was a single clip with the new modified clip shape, it would be legal
    7: illegal
    8: definitely not illegal, as you stated
    9: not illegal as long as you're only inserting a single stud like you showed. If you tried to insert a 1x2 into two technic pin holes, then you'd be stressing the elements
    10: probably legal

      There was a Lego book that used 10 as a way to build a knight tower not sure if this makes it legal though

      @@gamerpigeonakafbi8210 it's tough to say. Even if it was an official book, the internal guidelines can change. I feel like this would likely be legal though because no bricks are getting stressed, so you're not going to damage any bricks.

    Almost all techniques here are used in some official Lego sets, namely the Expert series. Studs not on top (SNOT) in particular is very common and there exist many bracket pieces designed for it.

    3:02 an example, you want a neck piece in a 2 by 2 piece, you cant put this piece, because is a 2 by 2 piece, so you Just put this in the center

    Pretty sure #5 has been used in some sets before, especially with pieces that have a circular bottom (like a chicken)
    And #6 is how Minifigures hood flat things like dollars so I think it’s acknowledged

    Lego specifically designed methods 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 9 to work that way. 8 isn't much. Still, the three remaining ones are indeed a bit of a stretch for the bricks.
