    I will stick with VSCode for heavy web development stuff, and Notepad++ for lightweight text file editor.

    Thanks for the short review. I agree, this IDE still have lot of question without answers. Especially woking with git which is different and annoying with all these 'pull & push'... Really what's this if I want to commit my changes?

  • @Mel-

    When VSCode can be set up within literally minutes (all the plugins, themes, etc. too), it seems like it's going to be a hard sell for JetBrains to really get developers to try to switch over, unless they can produce something that drastically improves the developer experience over VSCode... but even then, VSCode won't take long to catch up 😆I'm also yet to use a JetBrains tool that doesn't suck all of the RAM of my machine either... 🤔Either way though, a bit of competition will only make both tools better, so I'm excited to see how this develops in the future!

    Looks nice for an early preview, but for now I'll stick with Idea / Webstorm for development. But fleet can be a small tool when needed and when it allow plugins.

  • @nachosncheez2492
    @nachosncheez2492 2 года назад +1

    nope i'll stick with vim, and emacs when i need a powerful IDE. Most of the feature's of these new editors are just adding something to my config files anyways.

  • @31dariant
    @31dariant 2 года назад +1

    i think comparing any Full IDE with VsCode is a bit misleading to say the least.
    the appeal of an IDE is to get full feature out of the box, without relaying on third party plugin. this makes the experience and support more cohesive.
    VsCode on the other hand, is out of the box just a "Text Editor". all that third party plugin that makes it "looks like" an IDE.
    If you want to compare fleet, compare it with the Og Visual Studio.
    i've been using jetbrains product for years now. but before that i was using VisualStudio IDE for some years too,
    and at-least for what i experience, Jetbrains bring a lot more to the table, while being a lot more cheaper too.

      Everyone says VSC is a Text Editor, but it's a lightweight IDE. That's its design, that's its purpose. Hear me out: build + launch options, plugins, terminal integration, SVC, and language support OOTB alone justify it as an IDE. These are not plugins though plugins do extend these features. Also, MS specifically developed VSC to be a web-based IDE and only later pushed it to desktop with Electron. I don't think MS would have any interest in building an online text editor as there are already tons of FOSS options available to date, but there aren't a lot of web-based IDEs which have a more obscure use case like professional development on a remote machine or container. Edit: Also, official builds of VSC that have access to extensions will ship with some MS extended feature extensions OOTB to make it feel like an even more straightforward IDE. These extensions are not available on open-source builds like VSCodium.
