This is so good! So was the father disappointed the daughter doesn’t have powers at all so he leaves, was he only trying to find a compatible species to transfer his powers onward?
Something along those lines, yeah! Settling down on Earth after a lifetime of space travel is a big change, which he navigated alright at first. But he was at least hoping to pass on some of his powers, so when she didn't show any, the disappointment was too much for him to justify staying on Earth. He had a greater purpose in the stars.
