The inner tie rod has a ball joint that can wear over time, causing a clunking noise, loose steering, and eventually, other problems with the wheel and suspension components. It’s a good idea to replace your inner tie rods as soon as you notice any of these symptoms. This video shows you how to replace the inner tie rods on your 2007-2017 Jeep Compass.

Great, video straight to the point, can I ask you why you didn't use a bellows clamp or whatever they call it to secure the large diameter of the boot? A zip tie isn't the right part, I ask because my boot fell off and wondering if the mechanic used a zip tie too :) Thanks!

So how did you avoid twisting the rack-while taking off or putting on?

I just had to have the inner tie rod replaced on my 2018 Compass. I took it to the dealership for repair, and they said the whole rack and pinion system needed to be replaced to replace the tie rod. Is that accurate? It didn't change the price for me at all because my warranty covered it, but I just want to be prepared for the future once the warranty expires. I'm not a mechanic, but I feel like they made it a lot more difficult than it needed to be.

The amount of rust on my kids 2014 is insane, I am going to have to cover the entire suspension in 3 cans of WD-40 for 3 days before starting!! But thanks,... this helps some.

Just changed the right tie rod on my patriot thanks to your video. Need to change the other side too but the tie rod tool that I have, which is the one you used, was very cumbersome and the are was very tight. I'm going to rent tio rod tool from Autozibe tomorrow and get her going.
Again thank you and happy Thanksgiving.

No wonder the boot is always hanging loose when I get these replaced. Those zip ties don’t last if you use your car for work on a lot of gravel roads lol. I’ll have to tell my shop to use the real metal clamp next time.
