  • There was a tie-break match between Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi vs Grandmaster Praggnanandhaa. After rapid games and 5 mins blitz games, now it is time for 3 mins blitz game.
Praggnanandhaa on arriving late after going to the bathroom: "I kind of forgot that I have to run for the game! I lost 30 seconds there, but I kind of recovered from that, and when I managed to equal the time I was quite happy"

One of the most breathtaking time-pressured endgames we've seen in a while! The fact that they just had a 2 second increment but both managed to build time up, AND the pieces were not knocked over or flying off the board - absolute respect for both of them. The best part though is in the interview, when Pragg was asked why he took off his jacket and lost more time when he was already so down on time, he was confused and said, 'I did??' and doesn't even remember his boss move 😂

Yeah in the post-match interview he was asked what happened and he said he'd checked the main clock, saw he had quite a lot of minutes before the match was due to start, so when he went to the bathroom he took his time and even washed his face. Then he was told the match had started and rushed out, realising he made a mistake. And because he doesn't like to play wearing the suit, he took it off not even realising what he was doing, bless him. The way he kept his composure, didn't let any of that rattle him, and won with white for the first time that evening despite being so down on time with only a 2 second increment is the stuff of legends.
