Not surprised you didn't catch much. I've had days before the fire in that stretch where I caught dozens of fish without even moving my feet... Post fire/landslide though, its a totally different story. Major fish kills happened below Black Hollow Creek, an official CPW survey found 0 fish at Kelly Flats campsite last summer, while past years surveys turned up over a thousand fish over 4" in the same area.
I was just wondering if the Poudre would be worth the drive from Boulder. Good to see the canyon coming back. I'm headed to Clear Creek today, but maybe the Poudre next week for sure. You and Steven keep having fun and providing great content. Love to hear what you're using each time. Thanks for sharing!
I hit the Poudre a couple times a week since I live in Fort Collins. It's been busting my balls the past couple of weeks. Finale got on a nice trout a couple of days ago though. The bite seems to be heating up with the warmer weather and the water is clearing up a little too. Ju Ju Baetus has been the nymph that is working for me lately.
Seems to be the early season trend from what I've heard. Time will tell as it warms up. Seems like some areas were worse than others for fire and flooding.
Better off sticking with the Big T if you're looking to head this direction. The Poudre suffered major fish die offs last summer after the Black Hollow slide. I've tried many spots this spring where I caught great numbers of fish in past springs, and at the vast majority of them, I couldn't find a single fish.
So I am confused about the Poudre because they have signs all over the river stating they are wild trout and release them etc but then the fish hatchery is literally right there in Rustic on the river.. nice job bud 👍
@@TheRustedTrout I was wondering the same thing. I just don't know how some parts of the river have the wild trout..and some don't...I think the ones I've caught look wild but I'm definitely no expert... take care bud! ✌
I believe that the fish hatchery actually has nets in it to keep fishing from wandering in the river freely. Seemed weird to me but I talked to a couple of guys that worked at the Moose center and that’s what they said. It’s like it has its own section of the river boarded off for hatching.
The new twist this year is figuring out where to drop down and fish. It appears that the fish really got wiped out below the flood surge area (Rustic) and the stream is super silty/sandy from there on down. Above it appears to be much better - but it was still fishing super hard.

That's a bummer to hear. Hopefully it bounces back over the next few years.
@@TheRustedTrout yep, assuming we avoid more landslides and get decent snowpack it should be ok.

That's good to hear. Its such a great area with so much public access.
I heard overall the fishing is slower since the big fire. True?

Loved the long drift, starting at 3:41. Thanks for the video.
Thanks. It seemed like the best way to fish that back portion from that side of the river. It was a little too deep to wade to it.
Thanks
👍👍

Something to do some research on. I don't remember exactly, but are only certain sections wild trout areas or is it the whole thing?

@@logansimpson804 Gotcha!
Ya it's been hard fishing....
Hopefully it heats up here as spring goes on.

Good to know.. I love some of the upper stretches. I'll have to get up there this summer/fall for sure.
