  • How to Solder a Bezel Setting Down Into A Ring Band Shank -Fitting a bezel down into a ring shank is a bit tricky but the real secret to success is how to position it for soldering. I will show you the jewelry soldering technique that works every time with the least clean up. Although this particular ring is 22/20k gold, this jewelry soldering technique works exactly the same whether goldsmithing or silversmithing.

    Although I had watched this video last year, I totally forgot about this technique, it makes so much sense. When I made my first ring in this style, I placed the bezel on the soldering block and held the shank in place with a third hand, soldering both sides at once...so much could have went wrong, but luckily it worked! I'm definitely going to try this way next time though, thanks Jeannette.

    Howdy, your videos and instructions is wonderful and Im so grateful to you. I am trying to learn to do these little rings with tube settings. Im finding it so time consuming and I thought these little rings are fast and inexpensive. It is much harder than I expected!

      Handmade won't ever be truly inexpensive BUT you will speed up considerably, just keep practicing. :)

    I love your videos! The exact lesson I need magically appears when I need it most. What gauge wire did you use for the shank?

      So glad our mind meld is working! :)
      I believe this was 12 or 14 gauge.

    Could I apply this technique to a 17° bezel cup also?

    Hi! I love this video and a quick question: did you have to file the cut shank after you removed the piece that is replaced by the bezel? and if you did file the cut ends of the shank, did you file at any specific angle? Thank you!
    PS I love the jewelry you have made for yourself that you wear. And I love your presentation.

      Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, you have to file the edges of the cut shank so that they fit the bezel well enough to solder together. You have to make the opening straight up and down and match the curve of the bezel side to side. :)

    Amazing, I’ve been having so many issues with sliding shanks. Could you solder both sides at the same time? Thank you

    • @JewelryArts
      @JewelryArts  2 года назад +1

      I find we can only pay attention to one area at a time so one at a time is the way to go! If you solder your shanks this way, they won’t slide. 😃

    Do i cut out the solder joint? Or do i cut out 180 degrees from the solder joint? Ive got a bench set up, been rocking the bezel set pendants. Wanting to try this next.

      You definitely want to cut out the solder joint in your opening. I cut an opening a bit smaller than needed for the bezel and then file and adjust the opening to ensure a tight fit for the bezel. :) Let me know how it goes!

    Hi, I am looking for 18K gold solder for my 18K gold bezel wire and sheet. I cannot seem to find it anywhere. I shop from Rio Grande and I am surprised they do not carry it. Thanks in advance for the help :)

      Hi Christine That does seem strange. I am working on a line of gold solders for my site but in the meantime, I have bought great solder from myrontoback.com here in nyc. :)

      If only I’d watched this before I spent an hour trying to get my un-soldered ring to fit snug against the sides of my bezel 🤦🏻‍♀️ I gave up but now I don’t feel crazy or completely incapable. After hearing you say “it’s not going to happen” and seeing another training also mark and cut out the space for the bezel, I feel a lot better and confident to give it another go. Thank you!
