  • Arnold Schönberg: To the San Francisco Round-Table on Modern Art, March 1949
    Arnold Schönberg Center, Wien
The questionnaire of the San Francisco Art Association is dated 15 March 1949; Schönberg was unable to participate in the round table discussion, and instead recorded part of his contribution on his Webster Wire Recorder.

Love the picture of the wire recorder, quickly superceded by the tape recorder. It is also featured in the 1949 play Death of a Salesman.

Thank you. This is illuminating about Schoenberg in many ways -- about both his own art and his music --, but apart from that it is one of the most perceptive talks about modern art I have ever listened to.

Completely agree. It's so useful to hear about the developments of modern art from such a vital practitioner.
