When we think of American muscle cars, the iconic rumble of a V8 engine often comes to mind. Brands like Dodge have a rich heritage rooted in powerful, roaring vehicles that stir the soul of driving enthusiasts. The Charger, in particular, has held a special place in the hearts of car aficionados for decades. Its distinctive sound, the very essence of American muscle, is part of what makes it so iconic. But in an age where electric vehicles are taking over the roads, how does a brand like Dodge capture the spirit of their legendary Charger in a silent electric car?
Dodge, always one to challenge the norm, embarked on the ambitious journey of creating an electric muscle car, previewed by the Charger Daytona SRT. To capture the essence of its petrol-powered predecessors, the company needed to address the auditory experience. CEO Tim Kuniskis hinted at a special EV exhaust, and now we have the scoop on how it's set to work.
Dodge's solution, known as the "Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust," is not just about artificial noise generation; it's a meticulously crafted symphony for the senses. The patent documents reveal a complex system designed to deliver an authentic and multi-dimensional experience.
At its core, this system comprises internal speakers and a device mounted beneath the rear bumper. Within this system, woofers and mid-range speakers combine their efforts, sending sound vibrations into mixing chambers. These chambers play a crucial role in shaping the final sound that emanates from the vehicle, replicating the visceral growl of a traditional muscle car. In other words you have a sound system beneath the car that makes the sounds. To be honest all of this just sound heavy.
But let carry on. What sets the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust apart is its emphasis on authenticity. Unlike many artificial sound systems, Dodge's approach focuses on creating a genuine acoustic experience. The patent states, "Advantageously, the system utilizes digital sounds with some basic filtering, but uses the tuned exhaust assembly to fine-tune the sound in the acoustic domain instead of the digital domain, which creates a more authentic sound."
But sound is only one part of the equation. A big thing with muscle cars are the vibrations that the massive roaring V8 creates and Dodge aims to provide the same holistic sensory experience with this new EV charger. To achieve this, the patent reveals the incorporation of two "force generators" mounted beneath the vehicle. These generators will produce vibrations that synchronize with the "exhaust" sound, allowing drivers and passengers to feel the car's power as they hear it. This tactile element promises to enhance the immersive feel of driving a muscle car.
But they didn’t stop there, I will give it to them they really did try. You see To take the whole experience a step further, Dodge introduces "eRupt." This innovative system simulates the sensation of having a gearbox, despite the fact that electric vehicles have no such mechanical component. This addition aims to bridge the gap between the electric powertrain and the visceral experience of driving a traditional muscle car.
To end it of Dodge's Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust represents a bold leap into the future of electric muscle cars. While some purists including myself may remain skeptical, this multi-layered approach to sound and sensation promises to deliver an experience would be different to all other EV’s. As electric vehicles become increasingly prevalent, innovations like these may give these otherwise soulless electric cars a little more exciting. Only time and hands-on testing will reveal if this unique blend of technology truly honors the legacy of the Charger and takes it roaring into the electric future.

If they truly wanted to generate a sound then some tuned pipes and an air raid style siren driven directly off the motor would be the way to go. Could engage/disengage via a clutch like aircons if you really wanted to.

Basically it’s like my racing sim. I got haptic feedback from the buttkicker and artificial sounds through my headphones. It’s just super expensive 😅

🔥As we both know, that Electric Cars will be a passing trend, and Hydrogen Cell powered vehicles are already coming into play.
Which is good, because it will introduce the Liquid Hydrogen infrastructure throughout the western world.
Being ideal for the use of HYDROGEN COMBUSTION powered vehicles, and many existing Muscle-Car owners will be able to have Hydrogen convertion systems installed. 🙏🏽
    🔥
I must mention that Chrysler Corp. have intentionally blurred the lines between Traditional Muscle-cars and 4-Doors Sports Sedans, with their recent use of the Charger badging on a 4-Door Sports Sedan, which probably should have been badged as a Dodge Polara.
🌏 Knowing that they were simply wanting to attract massive government Fleet Buying of passenger vehicles, with highway pursuit capabilities. 🤑

FartSonic-did you say? If it sounded as bad ass as the old cars, it'd at least be OK, but I think (literally) that playing cards in spokes would sound better.

It sounds too much like a motorcycle at high rpm, at low rpm it can sound menacing with its deep rumble, like a rumbling dinosaur

LMFAO 😂, Its has no sound, no stick, no I.C.E. Who's the customer ? A true muscle car enthusiast wants a real one not a fake with a battery.

...my god have they lost the plot.. I can fix that sound issue of theirs.. I even got several ways to do it.. but overall the perfect solution is called ICE. The fact that they think that fake sounds, no matter how its generated(outside of an ICE) will sway a petrol head to go EV just shows how dumb they are and that they have no clue what it is really about. Emotion, connection, feel, soul. The mechanical engine is basic metal version of humans. It reminds us of our selves with our own quirks and things to work around. Digital has no soul. If you want to make an EV, go make an EV and embrace the things that EV brings to the table such as no sounds(that about it right :D). Don't try and make it something its not. Ffing own it. I do not like Tesla one bit, but at least they own the vision they are going for. They don't try and make it look like a traditional car outside of needing wheels and doors.

No, but 14 dollar a gallon fuel will certainly do.
As you see, it is a slow process. But we will go there, thanks to inflation and geopolitical struggles.

The electric version of this car will absolutely demolish any prior ICE incarnation in performance.
The closest an ICE will be able to get to the 800 volt version of the electric coupe is maybe close enough to see its taillights in the distance.
ICE is slow, inefficient, unreliable and expensive in comparison.
