  • Criminal investigations around corporate sabotage on companies once owned by Sean Quinn are five years underway with no sign that anyone will be charged in relation to offences around arson, property crime or intimidation.
And the probe into the so-called paymaster of the late criminal Cyril McGuinness - aka Dublin Jimmy - who Gardai believe directed the kidnap and torture of one time Quinn employ Kevin Lunney may have also reached the end of the road sources say.
So what has five years of high-level Garda investigation found and what if any ramifications are there for Quinn, the former billionaire who has admitted that much criminal activity was done in his name but without his consent.
Nicola speaks to Sunday Independent journalist Maeve Sheehan about the rise and fall of the mighty Quinn and about her interactions with one of the most sensational business stories of the century.

The extraordinary thing is that for several weeks before receivers moved on Quinn, he had only to sign an agreement that by now would have him back in total control of the Quinn group, and that includes the insurance company.
Quinn proved over and over that his kind of hubris and arrogance was not suited to the new financial atmosphere 😢😢 still I feel a bit sorry for him...

How could he keep borrowing at that point.he wouldn't have got the money from the very same bank that was trying to do a deal with him?

Did Sean Quinn own about 25% of AIB at one time. If so that was a takeover bid in waiting. His problem was everything he touched before AIB did well

Nope, about 28% of Anglo, but most of that was through cfd's , highly profitable when going up, but obviously had no stop loss limits for himself, hence staked everything on the shares coming back up quickly, the opposite happened, plus he had borrowed the money from the same bank.
Hubris was his downfall although I've never believed that it was him at the levers of the CFD trading, I'm convinced it was the younger generation...

I saw that documentary on him and he wasn’t what I’d say a “likeable” type of man.
