I agree, there could be much more empathy shown when someone expresses such deep pain and hurt also. It’s like wait wait hold on someone just shared that they were raped by their own brother AND shed a tear and we are just gonna skip to the next question. I think they just have a very abrasive delivery on these interviews. Even Tales From The Streets who is the originator of these kind of interviews has a deeper level of respect for these people. I’m not knocking this interviewer but I would be shocked when they interrupt me and jump immediately to another question after I just shared a deep trauma I am struggling with.

She feels that she did her best and had excuses but going to prison and abandoning her children is not good mothering. She regrets it but it is true. She is 47 years old not 17 or 27 years anymore. She left out key information concerning the accident and the situation surrounding why she is currently homeless. She speaks well and is used to being able to get by with it because most people are not as articulate. Women must face the fact that having children without benefit of marriage is not in anyone's best interest in the long run.

My sister has a charitable outreach and 5013C and works with the homeless. I've watched a few of these videos and my heart breaks for those who are struggling with addiction issues, trauma, mental health issues and just down on their luck. What I don't understand is whether the interviews are directed at genuinely trying to find out what each person's story is OR whether these interviews are survey oriented. Asking people when was the last time they had sex, asking people whether their sexual molestation or sex abuse was the result of penetration or not, asking how many baby daddy's, baby mommas, like I don't get that line of questioning. How about ask people to tell THEIR story, how they want to tell it, ask them if they WANT to share some of their trauma. Most importantly, how about having some information on resources one could seek out for help. Coming down there again asking folks intrusive, questions that have absolutely NO merit, have absolutely nothing to do with their homelessness is ridiculous and in my opinion takes away from the interview. Further more ASSuming that people who had both parents, went to high school or even college or were married or not staves away from homelessness is assinine. Homelessness is a complex issue and problem. Having a Job, money, family doesn't always fix the issue. Lastly, expecting or asking these people if their family knows whether they are homeless or not and asking them WHY their family isn't coming to help, rescue them is ridiculous. Sometimes people and their behavior, their addictions, their mental health challenges keep family FROM helping because most likely they have already TRIED to help them in the past. Some folks have chosen their addiction, refusal to get help, inability to be consistent with their recovery, etc OVER their own children, over having a roof over their head. Interview folks, find out their traumas, encourage them, lift them up, give them resources and information to seek programs and proper mental health, but don't take advantage of people who are ALREADY down, by asking them personal, intrusive and survey like questions to suit your curiosity. That's just foul.

Best indicator for prison is lack of a stable 2 parent family.

For instance, once she started talking about the sexual abuse for her older brother, there was no "I'm sorry". It's not easy reliving child sex abuse, even as an adult, and he did nothing to validate her--how powerful would have been. Roosevelt did not mince words when speaking about why he supported minimum wage laws. The making of a family brings with it added responsibilities. I have 3 daughters and letting them see what can happen when you freely offer your womb to a man without benefit of the stability of marriage is necessary.
