The YAA Electric channel recently addressed fires in EVs. The information was that if the battery ignites due to salt water shorting out cells (the short generates enough heat to ignite the lithium in the cells) the pack must be cooled to have a hope of putting out the fire. It takes about 30,000 gallons of water to do this and there is still a chance that other cells will short later causing the fire to reignite. Overall it can take up to 10 hours to be sure it is totally out.
The recommendation from fire departments was to just let the fire burn out - unfortunately destroying the car - which takes about 90 minutes.
The insurance data has been that unless the battery pack is submerged, electric cars have far fewer fires than ICE cars, even in snow country.
Bottom line - don’t submerge your electric car’s battery pack.

The pouch batteries they’re using in Ultium packs are very similar to the batteries used in the Chevy Bolts that were catching fire. Supposedly they fixed the issues but it’s still a concern.

I see many car fires all the time me being a truck driver and all of them are gasoline engines I haven't seen 1 electric car fire yet all this fake concern is mostly from people who are pro fossil fuels and won't buy electric but the day is coming sooner than they think where the won't have much of a choice it will be that or take a bus. This probably happened 100 years ago people cried about never buying a model T Ford because the horse and buggy was here to stay and we all know how that went
