Mastering With Trinnov Room Correction On VS Off

  • In this video we are going to test the difference Trinnov room correction makes when mastering. First we will master the song with the room correction off, then turn the room correction on and perform the same master. We can then compare the difference the room correction made. How much difference is made based on me hearing a more accurate audio source.

    This series of videos has been wonderful! Have to get this system now.

    It's amazing the difference it makes even to a amazing room.
    Gone are the days that the failings of a NS10 is the only way to find a good mix by it not sounds bad on them.
    Something I found with the trinnov myself, was clearly hearing if something is slightly out of phase and hear how precisely it is out.
    I think we have come a long way in speakers and room and now this advanced correction where there are no failings to speak of, where we hear everything and that's all we need now.
    What is weird is how things translate then.
    You maybe not hear where consumer speakers might distort, but you hear so much that you end up making it perfect anyway.
    You monitoring system is your first priority in a studio, more so than any outboard

      I used to have a really crap set of speakers years ago and poor acoustics and felt at times that I didn't have the ears to be a engineer...
      I could tell the difference in small adjustments attack and release setting on a compressor, large adjustments yes, but not small.
      Took a song I was creating into a proper studio and all of a sudden I could hear how slightly off everything was.
      These tiny adjustments on many tracks made a huge amount of difference on the sound of the entire piece

      I would 100% agree. I find that if it sounds good in this room and there are no audible errors to be heard, it will translate perfectly to an incorrect room, lesser system or a car or phone for instance. However that mix with the Trinnov off will not. Some systems will be way too dull. Some systems bass too loud. As someone trusted with getting a clients song to translate well on all devices. This room, speakers and room correction are highly important.

    But did you compare both master with or without trinnov ?

    This is an excellent demo, it is so obvious which one is the better one. Definitely everyone needs a Trinnov. Worth the cost. The difference is so obvious.

      100% worth every penny. You just can't put a price on having perfect audio.

    As great as videos like these can be, I always think an audible example of the difference between the two would help those who are still developing their ear to pick up on the subtleties of each master. Maybe a null test with the difference rendered out and isolated as an example would be a cool addition. You could even black out the screen initially to limit the example to just the audible difference. Then after presenting that audio only version, uncover the visual of the difference track for those who learn faster by seeing the tested results and visual curves or spectrogram etc. Thanks!

    Thank you for putting up your demo. I'm thinking about a room correction system. My takeaway from this is difference, yes. Making a living on the difference, prolly not. When similar quality room correction gets to be about .5 the investment (Gee, electronics never get cheaper/sarc) I'll re-examine the upgrade.

    Surely a couple reference tracks could have helped you get that brightness correct with or without Trinnov?

  • @andrewrice9383

    I’m going to say right off the bat my experience with room correction is I always have to fine-tune it because it doesn’t quite understand what’s going on with the room and how it’s influencing how I perceive the sound. I don’t know how Trinnov specifically is in that regard but everything else I’ve tried has been like that. But ultimately, I do get the right sound.

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio

      If you are referring to something like Sonarworks. I've always found it to do more badly than good. Trinnov is in a different league. I was put off room correction by the likes of Sonarworks originally. I'd need to correct the correction time and time again. With Trinnov you can make some slight adjustments to taste.

      @@AudioAnimalsStudio Dirac Live specifically. It does impulse response correction but it can still sometimes boost a null too much or cut where it doesn’t need to. And typically, I just nudge those up or down in the target curve and it fixes it.

    • @andrewrice9383
      @andrewrice9383 2 месяца назад

      @@AudioAnimalsStudio I looked closer at it, I could see it being useful in certain cases, like it could make it more consistent when you AB speakers for referencing for example although I already have impulse response correction as well as the ability to tweak the phase and frequency response after the fact, although I understand Trinnov gives a bit more control which can help focus the sound image better

    Another great video Paul. The trinnov version def sounds more open on the top end , "expensive" and, yes, controlled - exactly what you want the master to be. One question, when you listened back were you listening with / without the trinnov engaged?

      @AudioAnimalsStudio  Год назад

      Hard to recall but I would imagine listening back with Trinnov active

    Great vid as always! I am building an atmos room 9.1.6 Genelec 8351 and 8341 series powered by a mtrx studio, both have room eq correction but I have heard from professionals that Trinnov is just on another level, so my question is, for 9.1.6 setup which is the best option, D Mon or MC Pro?
    Thanks!

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  Год назад +1

      Get the MC Pro for that setup. Ideally you want the Dante version so that you have no conversion. The MTRX studio correction is limited in comparison plus you have to manually know what corrections to make. Trinnov will do it for you. In my opinion no atmos room should be setup without a Trinnov. Makes such a huge difference

    I achieved a perfect room since couple years ago, everything changed since then, TRINNOV is exxxpensive but definetly worth it. Sonarworks is just a toy for kids.

      100% agree. I installed sonarworks at a friend's studio to test it out. The calibration process was painful and it didn't fill me with confidence. Trinnov however, shoot a room in 2 minutes and instantly be filled with the confidence that you have a perfect room.

    Hello Paul. We have 2 Trinnovs in our facility. Amazing box and at this point nothing seems to be able to match it. The speakers just disappear!
    Do you do any processing on your MTRX Studio in addition to the Trinnov? We’re just getting started with our first Atmos room. More humble Neumann 310 /120 setup.
    Keep up your good work! More success to Audio Animals!

      I don't do any additional correction in the MTRX studio. The Trinnov will handle everything. Additionally the Trinnov will do your bass management and LFE filter.
