    I have this same washer, original to my home's 1995 date of construction. My unit was working OK but I decided to take it apart and clean it because it is old. After pulling the impeller lots of grossness from decades of use awaited. After the big cleanup it is still going - I run it empty now and then with white vinegar and that freshens it up.
    Lots of videos of clogged drains/chopper discs on RUclips. Kinda cool that this model just uses a simple chopper blade. I don't care what they say, knock the big chunks off the dishes before putting them in the washer is better if ya don't want a clogged washer.
    Thanks for the video!

    Thankful this is still on youruve in 2024.
    Our black plastic piece has to be chiselled out, so im waiting on the repair kit still available online. We just got a new stove so not needing to spend much much more on a similar quality dishwasher in 24 to the one weve got is great. $120 for repair parts vs 1500$ for a quality washer... Worth it.

    Thank you SO much for posting this. I needed to disassemble my Whirlpool dishwasher, which apparently is this exact dishwasher under a different name, to clean out debris and this was a perfect tutorial. I seriously could not have asked for a better walkthrough of the steps to disassemble and reassemble. The part where you said, "Be careful, you may find glass down here" was such a good reminder and true in the case of my dishwasher. Thank you, again. You helped me save the day!

    • @randygray7621
      @randygray7621 4 года назад

      To remove the hex nut I used an adjustable wrench to hold the impeller, but it is plastic and was bending so I used a 1” crows foot wrench and a socket to go inside so it wouldn’t deform. Then put a 1/4” deep socket through the other socket and turned the hex nut. Otherwise the plastic 1” nut would deform and start to strip. Hope this makes sense

    You forgot the spray arm upper wear ring that goes under the plastic nut, that's why your spray arm wobbled so much when you spun it. Also, to help yas out getting the impeller nut off do this: Take two flat head screw drivers and hammer them through the impeller 180º apart, use those as handles as you undo the 1/4" nut. The plastic nut on mine also crumbled into pieces while attempting this repair.

    Hello Mr. Fix., the best dishwasher tutorial I have seen. And I especially like it because it was specific to my aged Kitchenaid. Really good.
    Can I offer a couple of related things?
    - your voice comes through very well no matter what position you happen to be in. Fab!
    - the camera view though, is blocked by your head during the impeller segment.
    - and related, you do a bunch of the hand work (putting in new gaskets) at the bottom of the camera angel, which unfortunately, is off camera.
    But above all, I love this video. Keep at it. Thanks, Keith

    Thank you for this video, I have run into an issue though. I have a washer on the motor shaft that won't come off after I removed the old impeller. Can you tell me if the shaft gets wider and would in essence be making the matter worse by hammering it to try to loosen it?

    I have a question I hope someone can assist with. I believe I have this same dishwasher. I found some gunk on the spiky parts on the bottom of my dishwasher and decided to remove all the parts as instructed here in the video to clean. I was able to get that dreaded impeller screw out and when getting to the bottom I found water and some dirt that I was able to clean out. Is it normal for water to be accumulated down there? I want to make sure I don't need new seals. Thanks!

    I know it’s been a while, but can that screen/filter be taken apart and cleaned? Mine is full of debris and cannot separate it to clean it

    • @FixDotCom

      If yours is the same as the one in the video your correct in it not coming apart but, you can flush it out and clean it. I use a soft tooth brush and brush the screen while holding the filter housing over the sink rinseing it with warm warm, A bit tedious if its really built up but it can be done.

    Is the middle screw supposed to keep turning for a really long time or does that mean it stuck and will have to be chiseled out? Like 5 minutes spinning.

    4:53 - I can't seem to get this seal out. It won't lift out, it won't turn, and even with a screwdriver I haven't been able to pry it out. He doesn't show removing the seal in this video, so I'm guessing it should just lift out, but mine doesn't. Thoughts?
    EDIT: Ok. I found another video that said to pry it out and not worry about damaging it since it's being replaced.

    I own a Kenmore with this design. Having draining issues. I am unable to determine the age. Would this style give you an idea of its manufacture date? Thinking about replacing if it is old.

    I’ve taken all the old parts out as shown on the video, however, the shaft that comes up from the motor does did not turn. Using pliers I got it to turn reasonably well. To see if it would continue to turn, I closed the dishwasher door and pushed the cancel/drain button. The dishwasher made a screetch like noise and is back to the shaft not turning -- unless I use pliers. What next?

    Do you have to shut off water and power supply in order to clean screen. I think he took off nut from the pump so I assume water needs to be shut off otherwise it will shoot from bottom?

    • @FixDotCom
      @FixDotCom  6 лет назад

      Thanks for your question. It is recommended that any time you are working on the dishwasher, especially if you're near the pump area, that you shut off the water supply. It is also smart to shut off the power supply, so that (even though it is not likely with this particular repair) there is no chance of electrocution. Thanks for your question and good luck with your repair!

      @@nojokeauto yes, I'm down to the very bottom but I can't tell if that is supposed to be able to come out or not. I'm down to the black bottom part at 4:54 on this video, but I don't know if that black bottom part should come out too, if so, I can't figure out how to get it out. So I'm going to put it all back together now, I don't think I really got to the dirty part though. I can't find a video about possible removing the bottom black part.

      Hi Jayne, sorry for the delay. I would suggest penetrating oil and time or remove the pump assembly and try to direct some heat on the shaft without damaging the pump housing may be your only recourse.

      I know it's a bit late, but use a 1/4" socket in an impact driver and it will come right out. It's a standard thread so you don't need to go the opposite direction to remove it. Something like this- www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-20-Volt-MAX-Lithium-Ion-Cordless-1-4-in-Impact-Driver-with-Battery-1-3Ah-Charger-and-Contractor-Bag-DCF885C1/207121879 If you don't own one ask your DYI friends they will most probably have one.

    The video is of course done well, however the video has two problems clearly, 1. the back of the workers head is directly in front of the interior assembly - when he actually sets the parts in place, then the back of his head is moved out, and viewers then see the next level of parts installed in place. 2. The video assembly providing video of workers handling and assembly is off screen thus the viewing audience, no matter full screen, small screen cannot see what he is handling nor how he is placing it together with his hands ..
