Something similar happened to my husband and I. After 5 years of paying off debt, a year looking for a house and finally finding one that I loved, my husband was like, no. This don't feel right.
The NEXT DAY, the company that my husband works for that paid us more money that we know what to do with, announced that they were laying off 90% of of its work force.
Y'all... Lenders were like... Nope! But I'm sitting in my house right now.
My husband started working at his new job the same day he signed the severance package for his old one.
Because of his pay cut we qualified for two grants. One for the closing costs and one for the down payment. From day one we had equity in our home.
I don't know how God is gonna do it for y'all, but I'm sure he will. Can't wait for the video on how he does. 💚💚💚💙💙💙💜💜💜

Wow. The same thing happened to my husband and I. We bought a new construction home put down our earnest money and 2 weeks later they called us stating they sold our home. We were crushed because that was the last home in this subdivision. Well God made a way. A couple who was supposed to buy a home that I fell in love with first but we couldn't afford they backed out. The builder called us and let us buy the home for the same price as the home we placed earnest money. The home the Lord gave us was $30,000 more than what we afford. I know God is going to make a way for you and your family 🙏

The real estate world is very crucial for african americans in general, Red lining is very real & it's clear that the lady who was rude to you guys didn't have your best interest at heart from the beginning sending you through all those turmoils about what each transaction meant. I hate that we live in a society where African americans are treated this way when it comes to the business world or anything else in that matter. I just hope you guys are aware of this issue & know that rejection is always waiting for us in things like this. They don't want us buying homes & it's very sad & ignorant.

Kevin & Melissa, have you all considered moving from the state. We moved from Southern California to Boise, Idaho 22 years ago. A lot of actors and actresses have moved from there to here. It’s a one hour plane ride to Cali. The house prices here are mid $300’s for a brand new home with back yards and a ton of space. Even the older homes are a lot better than Cali homes. Also the schools are a lot smaller especially the charters here. Much grace to you guys💞

You suffered a serious loss. You have both the right and need to grieve. Moving is a huge amount of stress and change, even when everything goes right. This is on the scale of canceling a wedding--you set your mind to permanently alter the course of your life and now that has fallen through. It makes sense to compartmentalize as far as needing to figure out where to live next, but definitely work through your loss. Out of sight is NOT out of mind, as we all know too well. There is always someone whose situation is worse than yours, but that doesn't invalidate your pain. Walking wounded is still wounded.

After hearing about the loan process and the loans disappearing, I need to rethink my strategy. Preparation is everything. There is a house for you guys out there that will be perfect for you and the kids. It's coming.

You can get a super large home that is next generation. Meaning you can have your studio connected to your house. Live near Nia Long, look up Haven Estates in Rancho Cucamonga. Great schools.

Let me tell you where God is in this story. He made sure you didn't get into a financial situation that you would regret for the next couple of years. Sometimes sad times are really blessings. We don't know how long this thing is gonna go on. And think about this. In the next year or two, you may be able to pick up a house for half of what you would pay today if the ramifications of this virus continue. He's STILL good!

I felt that when Melissa said you can't buy things with a house, you need cash for food ect. But y'all did a good job of showing how complicated it can be to buy a house and how renting is sometimes the better option. Especially if you're able to get something reasonable that allows you to save up your cash for something bigger and better. The silver lining is, without putting down roots in LA, it allows you to be more open to other possibilities that you might not even know about yet.

We need more personal episodes like this pls! Just like the good old days of just you two telling us about your lives. I learnt sooooo much from this episode, kept pausing and telling my husband, omg did you know houses cost this much in LA? Omg, corona stopped Kev and Mel from buying their dream house ! Omg, did you know being self employed was this difficult financially? Hubby got tired and walked out 😂😂

I'm so glad y'all found somewhere to live. I also appreciate the details, we bought our first house last year. I was holding my breath at certain points of this story. What fiscally responsible decisions you've made.

As a self-employed single parent I appreciate you both for shedding light on the home buying process. I think I'll take a page from your book and chill until things smooth over. When that buyer's market hits I'll be ready! Thank you both for sharing and for being so transparent about your experience. 💫💫💫

Listening to this I am grateful that our whole home buying experience was vastly better. We just closed in March 2020, my mortgage interest rate was reduced, twice! I did so much research on home loans, we did a VA loan, because I don't like unexpected, my anxiety can't take it and I am a super nerd queen. We signed our closing in the car because of the distancing restrictions, I was like "it can be whatever, as long as I get my house." I worked in a real estate office back in the early 2000s, one of the agents had a saying, "it isn't your house, until they give you the keys", that was replaying in my head until the closing was over. And now, I am forever unpacking. Glad this worked out for you, Melissa and Kev.

I’m a realtor in NC and SC. You guys gave great advice. Things happen all the time when buying and closing on a home. I’m glad the builder were willing to accommodate you guys. I have heard opposite happening where the builder weren’t accommodating, only when a buyer isn’t represented by an agent. They try to get over when walking into new construction alone.

So interesting about the Grieving process... we all have the right to feel our feelings (no matter what level it is), even though it's hard to express it in these times!!

I love the transparency...the paperwork for purchasing a home is tedious..after I purchased my 1st home I have vowed I will not do this again until I know I'm " ready ready" to purchase again. Those "explanation" letters tape danced on my last nerve as well 🤣🤣🤣

My husband and I just went thru this same thing last year! Listen.... I did not realize buying the American dream was so stressful, by the time we went in several circles I was like keep your dream and we ended up renting a home that had everything we wanted in a very very nice neighborhood! The other thing I realize the home buying process is prejudice!!!!! Just listening to y’all I felt yah all the way but my stress came back thinking about what we went thru... the situation is still raw hahaha! Your new home I very beautiful! Enjoy! We were also told the industry would not fall for at least 5 years, well fast forward to today and we are on the break of a huge industry fall so they will be begging for buyers soon!

I would have been able to follow the journey more clearly if Melissa had not kept jumping in to say what she thought Kevin was GOING to say. But, I am sorry that this happened. In time, God is going to bring you something greater. When I was going to buy my first home several years ago, I lost my job the week before closing and had to walk away from it.

Grief is relatable but experienced differently by individuals. Both of you had the right to grieve over the loss of what you wanted. You don't need to compare wounds and scars when grieving. Comparison IMO always invalidates the present moment.

*57:30**:* along with all that is being grieved in the world, you are allowed to grieve your loss (both can exist). grieving is personal and your grief matters just as much as anyone else’s. the myth of *comparative suffering* tells us grief/suffering must be rated on a scale. that [X] is greater/more important loss than [Y]. and so even though we’re devastated about [X] we diminish our feelings & restrict the expression about our emotions bc our loss isn’t (as bad-in our minds) as [Y]. any comparison in and of itself is emotional violence. you both were invested in this process in every way. you did your work. you were given the green light. you prepared for the birth. and then it was gone. it didn’t happen. and there was no one who could bring it back. that’s heartbreaking. you’re worthy to feel every bit of that heartbreak & disappointment. just as others are worthy to feel theirs. 💕
