I always chuckle when I recall the actor talking about how she would continue walking around sets and locations like Anne Lister just to keep up her stamina; and how it would send the crew in a panic when they couldn't find her because she was "off marching about". 🤣🤣🤣

I know it is a dramatisation and not ment to be true to history. but most is believable. Its a shame she included the murder and pigs storyline. Is a silly distraction. That as well as being complete fiction make's no sense
The real sowden sent his son to university. Even tenants. Would well off compared to many others at the time
But most of it is straight from the diaries. Sally Wainwright has said in interviews that the diary covers a lot of details and descriptions of scenes and dialogue, but the diaries are not a "novel". And, some things Lister wrote about in her diaries continued on in other entries, where other things she wrote about once and didn't circle back to continue the story and dropped it. So, it was a big challenge to flesh it out into a story across 16 episodes. And, she did add in a bit of creative scenes which is why it's stated as "inspired by" the diaries.
