I became a fan of the Scorpions at age 12 in 1979 and have seen them live at least five times. Great band German band from the '70s! The Scorpions are full of talent and have had some of the best guitarists as members in their band; Michael Schenker, Uli Roth, and of course their longest guitarist Matthias Jabs. All legends. This band is about energy and melody.

Scorpions were (are) always a unique band with a very distinctive sound, especially the early stuff with the awesome Uli Jon Roth on lead guitar. Vocalist Klaus Meine has a very special beautiful voice that can belt out rockers and soulful ballads like no other and song writer rhythm guitarist Rudolpnh Schenker (brother of the legendary guitar god Michael Schenker) has lead the band from the start . The scorpions have a new album coming out called “rock believer”. You gotta remember something, that the singer Klaus Meine is 73 years old now. The scorpions have been together for 50 years! It’s incredible that his voice now has hardly changed since the 70s. Might be something you want to check out because they have one song available until their album comes out next month. Truly incredible.
And yes Lex, it's metal. But with some really great ballads too. Not a hair band...these guys came together in the 70s. Poison, Kiss and Motley Crue aren't even in the same league as the Scorpions.
They made the only rock ballads I take seriously. I would put Motley Crüe above any of the other hair bands. They were the only current rock I listened back then I was so fed up.
I’ve seen these guys live so many times. One time they stopped the show because someone from the front row had thrown a camera at the stage and hit Klaus in his throat area. He was pissed. That was 1988 “monsters of rock tour” at the Kingdome in Seattle.
I grew up attending endless live performances by the Scorpions.. Their shows were never disappointing. Roesmont Horizon, Tinley Park, Alpine Valley, Poplar Creek etc.
One thing that made this LP a great album was Klaus Meine, the singer, having to rebuild his voice from near-zero during its making. He’d had surgery to remove nodes from his vocal cords, and got complications that had him ready to quit. The other members encouraged him to take as much time as he needed, so he spent a year or so doing physical therapy and voice lessons. What you hear on *Blackout* is Klaus fully recovered and singing at his absolute peak abilities.😎🎶
Also, Don Dokken, who was stuck in Germany with the rest of Dokken at the time did the guide vocal tracks for this LP so when Klaus was finally able to sing well again, he just had to do a few takes instead of multiple takes that are usually needed to put down the tracks :-)
Scorpions defined the typical hard-rock-almost-heavy sound of the eighties. It's not a hair-metal band. Klaus sings marvelously. If you can, check their early albums up to Tokyo Tapes.
NO doubt about it! Many psuedo heavy metal bands in the 80s had live Tokyo ( cheap trick live at the Budokan !was a favorite of mine) albums !! good times :)

Arguably their greatest album, it propelled them to worldwide super stardom in the 80s. Prior to this, they had a very strong following in Europe and under ground in the US. Their body of work is really insane, having formed in the 60s (first album 1972). Klause Meine is one of the all time greatest rock/metal singers...he can hold a candle to anyone. Love this song, and still listen to them to this day (since the 70s). PS: they have a new release on youtube tomorrow...that should give you some idea of 50 years of music history.
I was thrilled when, back in the late 90s, the Scorpions added Arizona to their encore at the end of their show I was at in Phoenix. I'm not sure if they have it on the setlist anywhere else.
The other thing to remember is Klaus had to have vocal cord surgery before he recorded this record. It was a very hard time for him and the band. It wasn’t clear that he’d be able to sing post surgery? Apparently, it worked out!
Finally!! Scorpions had a ton of really jammen tunes. It seemed as if only their ballads made it big though. Most of their fans LOVE the more hard stuff ! Rock ON !!!
The BEST song from this album is DYNAMITE - the power and energy of that is amazing. It also has one of their best ballads : When The Smoke Is Going Down.
This is Scorpions second best album, with Love At First Sting being their best album. The song after Blackout on this album is No One Like You, THE best Scorpions song.
Some will argue that at this album, Scorpions found their sound, I however, prefer the older stuff. By the way, listen to Holiday, In trance, Sails of Charon….
The song to me sounds like it's about a guy who (probably did indulge too much the night before, and) blacked out, and then wakes up next to someone he doesn't remember laying with in the first place. As he scrambles in the throes of a hangover to cut out, he runs into "another one", suggesting there maybe have been some three-way action going on. Since he has no clear recollection, he ponders "did I make it or did I flop", probably meaning, did he "finish" before passing out or not.

This album opened up the USA market and they had a further several huge hit albums in the USA. I hope you do a reaction to Rock you like Hurricane, from the next album they released in 1984.
Hahahaha, I never heard it as "blick out" before, but I will from now on. The only word I found him consistently pronounce "oddly" is "way", which sounds like "wee", pretty evident in Still Loving You ("If we'd go again, all the wee from the start").

An incident involving Judas Priest guitarists K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton inspired Scorpions guitarist Rudolf Schenker to write this song. Schenker recalls: "I remember we had a party with K.K. and Glenn from Judas Priest and for a while, there were also the guys there from Def Leppard. And we were having a party with K.K. and Glenn and they gave me a drink, and it was beer, and I was, 'No, no, you have to have the right mix: whiskey, beer and wine on top of it.' And they are like, 'What!?' And I was, 'Yes, come on.' And we were getting heavily drunk and we had a good time. And I think K.K. had the idea, 'Hey, let's go to the Def Leppard guys.' Because we were in Cleveland - the Cleveland Hall, next door was the hotel." "So we went to the Def Leppard guys and then somehow, they were watching television. They were very young in these days. This was 1980 I think, because we were playing together, Def Leppard, Judas Priest and Scorpions in Cleveland. So I saw them watching TV and I poured my drink into the television. And the whole television went 'poof!' And this was the situation and I said, 'OK, we have to leave, we have to go now.'" "But anyway, it became so crazy, and the next morning I wake up in my hotel room and I said, 'What's happening?' I went to Herman and he wasn't there, he wasn't at the party, and I said to Herman, 'Hey, I'll tell you what, it was crazy last night. I remember to this point and this point' and he said, 'You know what you had? You had a blackout.' And I said, 'Blackout?' And then he said, 'Hey, you know, that's a great title for an album. And because of this kind of special party, I went back home and said I think I have to write a song, the music, because Klaus was writing most of the lyrics." "So I sat at home and made the song and then went to Klaus and he came up with the lyrics and then we had it.

Yep, after Rock You Like a Hurricane, that album, I got off the Scropions train. The early stuff was killer.
So many great memories of blasting this song sitting in my car in the high school parking lot with my girlfriend, who has been my wife for 38 years now!
You should check out their song "Sails of Charon" from an earlier album. It is incredible!

Tons of great songs
Arguably their greatest album, it propelled them to worldwide super stardom in the 80s. Prior to this, they had a very strong following in Europe and under ground in the US. Their body of work is really insane, having formed in the 60s (first album 1972). Klause Meine is one of the all time greatest rock/metal singers...he can hold a candle to anyone. Love this song, and still listen to them to this day (since the 70s).
PS: they have a new release on youtube tomorrow...that should give you some idea of 50 years of music history.
"Arizona" by the Scorps is an underrated banger!!
Scorpions at different times in their career range from acid rock to hard rock heavy metal.
Now is pretty damn good
Saw them live in Germany in 1990 the band Cinderella opened up for them absolutely killer I've never seen so much energy at a concert. :-) :-)
I saw the Scorpions on the Blackout tour in 1982 opening for Rainbow.
They opened with this song, and it was explosive.
They have a NEW album out in Feb. I already have it pre-ordered. THIS was the staple in high school. THIS ALBUM ROCKS!!!!
It's been decades since I've heard this tune. Thanks.
Grew up on these guys Love this album Cheers
Man you jacked that song up bad!!
You don’t ever stop it right as it goes into solo for 3 minutes!
The marketing team for these bands need to realize that reactors improve sales and exposure. Just ask Fleetwood Mac. Come on man
Thanks for your REACTION, Brad and Lex! Klaus Meine is their lead vocalist and agree with No_ID in the previous post. The singer is a legend!
One of my all time favs from the scorps
Matthias Jabs lead in this song is epic. He crushed it!!!
I saw das Scorpions in Germany during my service God what a show it was a two day concert like Woodstock . Two days of rock booze and some pot . We slept in the stadium .
Wild days and nights of my youth.
Saw bob Marley and Fleetwood Mac together . So awesome. The wead.was a flowing
RIP.🙏🙏 Bob .M you are so missed the world neads so much now . ❤️❤️❤️
One of my favorite early scorpion songs, Right along with “The Zoo”
The Scorpions basically invented the power ballad AND arena rock. They are absolutely legendary.
These guys were on top of the world and ~BAMN~ Nirvana and Pearl Jam hit the scene!!! Wham Bamn and Over!! Both were great bands but they took out a lot of my main groups at that time! \m/
Their solos are honestly so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 of my top 5 favorite bands. Klaus has a great voice. No band puts out better ballads. Try winds of change, still loving you. My favorite song is Always Somewhere, please listen to it. You will love it
Scorpions rock!
My first Scorpions song....I was hooked at the age of 13!!!
Heavy Marshall stacks with a touch of overdrive hammering rhythms with a lyrical exploring lead answering and calling against the lyrics.
Die Scorpions sind eine großartige Rock'n'Roll-Band! Habe sie in den 80ern viele Male gesehen! Good stuff! Try Coming Home from Love At First Sting.
The video is still up at 2:30 Eastern the 13th.
Always loved Scorpions. Way more Iron Maiden than "hair band"
I was stationed in Germany in the late 80s in Drake/Edward's kaserne Frankfurt, a small near by town of Bad Vilbel had a bar called Filwood with the same art work as the Scorpions Blackout cover on one whole wall.
Love your reactions! Try "No one like you" and "Big city nights" from Scorpions. So good! Another tip. Crazy lixx with "Anthem for America". Fantastic hairmetal made 2021.
Went to Monsters of Rock concert back in the mid 80's..Van Halen headlined and yes Metallica was there but Scorpions to me stole the show..Used to rock this album out cruising the Blvd..Those were the daze!!
It's also about the lady he woke up next to. He says,"...Have I lost my taste."
The blocks actually come from companies hired by band attorneys that scour the internet looking for copyright infringement. If you place a copyright disclaimer at the start of every video reaction you do it reduces the chances of it getting blocked. Hope this helps because y'all rock!
This song always puts me in a great mood ! 🎸🏆
These guys were forming the SAME time as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest. The 1970's gave rise and ushered in the 80's METAL.
When this came out, I was 15, and I brought it home and my dad made me read the lyrics to this song. It didn't go well.
Scorpions had great riffs, hooks, melody and choruses. Lyrics were so-so, IMHO.
This band is from Hannover/ Sarstedt . 20 miles from my home . It´s hard to believe that they are more succesful in other countries , than in germany .
What a great and very entertaining reaction video.
I love this band., Blackout was their first full heavy metal album and it became a big hit . It is not hair metal though. Big thumbs up from me !
This album opened up the USA market and they had a further several huge hit albums in the USA. I hope you do a reaction to Rock you like Hurricane, from the next album they released in 1984.
🧨🥁🎸💣It’s the German sound that makes them sound different and good!!🧨💣🥁🎸
Hahahaha, I never heard it as "blick out" before, but I will from now on.
The only word I found him consistently pronounce "oddly" is "way", which sounds like "wee", pretty evident in Still Loving You ("If we'd go again, all the wee from the start").
Awesome seeing them live when this album came out!
They had so much energy on stage. Wild German Rockers.
scorpions are in a class of their own.
Klaus got vocal nodes just after this album, his voice came back after a couple of years though.
Scorpions Animal magnetism... You will love it
The drummer at the time, Herman Rarebell, wrote this song about a drinking binge :-)
LOL, how fitting, Brad warns of a possible "black out"of their stream during the song Blackout.
Thanks for playing this. They have so much good stuff, but everyone wants to play the same 3 songs.
This is one band I wish I seen in concert back in the day but never did.
They are spot on live. Lovedrive is my favorite album by them🤙🏼 Day on the Green. Nuff said🤘🏼
One of the greatest rock bands form late seventy's and on seen them in 85 on their World Wide Live tour. You should check out Loving you Sunday Morning.
the backgroud guitar throughout the song is so cool. not many bands play like this but Van Halen e.g. does. Two strong guitar players :-)
2 lead Guitars,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Judas Priest.
Matthias Jabs is the most underrated guitarist in the world. Blackout is basically one long guitar solo.
And I think K.K. had the idea, 'Hey, let's go to the Def Leppard guys.' Because we were in Cleveland - the Cleveland Hall, next door was the hotel."
"So we went to the Def Leppard guys and then somehow, they were watching television. They were very young in these days. This was 1980 I think, because we were playing together, Def Leppard, Judas Priest and Scorpions in Cleveland. So I saw them watching TV and I poured my drink into the television. And the whole television went 'poof!' And this was the situation and I said, 'OK, we have to leave, we have to go now.'"
"But anyway, it became so crazy, and the next morning I wake up in my hotel room and I said, 'What's happening?' I went to Herman and he wasn't there, he wasn't at the party, and I said to Herman, 'Hey, I'll tell you what, it was crazy last night. I remember to this point and this point' and he said, 'You know what you had? You had a blackout.' And I said, 'Blackout?' And then he said, 'Hey, you know, that's a great title for an album. And because of this kind of special party, I went back home and said I think I have to write a song, the music, because Klaus was writing most of the lyrics."
"So I sat at home and made the song and then went to Klaus and he came up with the lyrics and then we had it.
I was fortunate enough to see this tour with girlschool and Iron Maiden supporting back in the day. hell of a show klaus is a force to be reckoned with much like Dio small in stature but, massive in power and sound rock on

I just realized you did two Herman bands.... AWESOME!!
They have 3.5 million subscribers on RUclips so they are still popular, starting in the early to mid 70's, great metal band,my favorite German band, and listen to the two guitar's playing the two different parts.Looks like you made it to the end.🙂
Rudolf Schenker. His brother had a band too.
Same album is a song called "China White". It's a Hard Mellow song. Lex would love Judas Priest, "Green Manalishi"
Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs working their magic.
I saw them in 1983 with iron Maiden !! Great concert Try listening to The Zoo or Love Drive !!
