The back had a weird bump so I had to take of the back panels, that might just be a sizing issue or the wool I used Tie all the ends! I didn't tie them and when I finished, one of the rows was unravelling. Trust. In. The. Process. It was looking weird literally up until I finished it. Use a thin wool for it to be flowy like the video and a slightly thicker one for a more stiff shape All in all it was a great pattern and I love it.
Such a great tutorial. This is wonderful for folks in warmer climes that do see cold temps at times. And of course it also works great for layering. Thank you!
sizing advice based on my experience! i made my sweater a bit bigger and have some tips below :) i made made my initial hexagon a bit too big trying to size up. what i wish i’d done was make the initial hexagon thinking ONLY about how it would fit my upper arm area. i was too worried about the length and width of the chest area, so my upper arm part ended up being a big too baggy. the rest of the sleeve was fine (but maybe would’ve needed more rows if i’d done the hexagon smaller). instead of adding rows to the middle and bottom, i wish i would have just done a few rows going completely from the front corner of the hexagon (the corner that became the collar), along the bottom, to the back corner (that became the corner at the nape of the neck). i did this after adding the center rows and it was just as easy and added both width and length, but it messed up my color pattern a bit to do singular width rows first. tldr: make the original hexagon focused on the upper arm size, then add rows for the chest/length after
Love this tutorial! Have used it as a (loose) guide to making my own. Mine's a bit bulkier as I used sugar n cream on a size 6 hook, but I still love it! Planning on adding a ribbing to the bottom of mine as well. I love the tapered sleeve on this one!
I love it. How many skein of yarns you used? I am asking because I will make mine very much the same size... actually I might make mine a big larger because when I measure my chest size, 22" wrap around my body perfectly. There, if half of the body is 22" it would make 44" round and it will make a large and baggy sweater, which is what I want to do. Thank you for sharing and thank you in advance for your reply.
Ho letto alcuni commenti dove si parlava delle maniche che diventano ampie. Ho risolto il problema: quando ho la larghezza giusta delle maniche continuo il lavoro su tre lati, i due davanti e la lunghezza 🎉
Would I be able to add buttons at the front and not sew it up in order to turn this into a cardigan rather than a sweater, or would the pattern need to be adjusted? Update: I did it! For the button holes I would skip a 3DC and simply chain 3 instead, I also chose to cinch in the wrist in the end (by decreasing every stitch in the last row) because I just liked the look more that way, otherwise I followed the tutorial to a T and it was perfect 😍
You could! I’m not entirely sure on how to integrate dedicated button holes into a granny stitch pattern. But because there are obviously holes within this pattern, then yes you could totally do this! My guess would be to identify which holes you’ll be using as button holes within the natural gaps of the granny stitch pattern. Maybe go around the chosen openings with another color or a thread in order to always be placing your buttons into the same holes and that its symmetrical!
For the other side (Not shown on video) do we do the decreases on the same side? I only ask because we did the decreases on the back so they wouldn’t be seen but if we made it the same way wouldn’t the second half show the decreases in the front I hope that makes sense! Other than that I loved the turorial
You’re totally right. You have to do the opposite as your other side so that the decrease ends up being on the back of your sleeve. Thanks for telling me.
I don't understand how to add the yarn in when it is already not attached to the piece. like for the second side of adding width, how do I start the rows when the yarn isn't attached?
So if you arent comfortable doing a slip stitch to attach your yarn, you can simply attach it so making a knot into any space between two clusters. This is what I do. If you look at 1:00:09 you can see how I just knot yarn into one of those spaces :)

Hope I helped a little bit 😅
Sill question, how do I add the five rows to the others side? Do I need to use one of the other Caron cakes and just start Crocheting? This is the part I’ve been stuck on, I’m excited to finish this project
hey, did anyone figure out how to start the 3rd row of adding width? I finished exactly like on the video but i dont know where to add now my first dc before starting clusters again Help please 🙏
hi I'm having the same problem. the row started with 1 dc and 3 dc's all the way to the end. but at the last hole it's just not looking right. even when i put 3 dc in the last hole it's too small and looking kinda decreased. how can I fix that I think I missed something but I can't figure it out 😅
I am loving this pattern! but I do have a question. When youre doing the opposite arm sleeves, if you have the front facing you that means that your first decrease will be on the shoulder and I cant work that out. Will it matter if I start with the back facing towards me, that just means that the decreases will be shown at the front? will anything else happen to the shape of the arms?
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I’ve been searching one like it for ages 💙 When you’re alternating rows to add width, where do you put your double crochet/first stitch at the beginning of row 3?
At the beginning of row 3 would be the same as row 1. You’re talking about the 5 rows that I added for the width once I’ve completed the hexagons, correct? And thank you for the compliment I’m glad you like my video ☺️
I love this! Are you making a size small or medium in this video? I’m more of an xs so I wanted to see if I should do 16 rows or 18 rows for the hexagon
I would say it’s probably a large since it’s very oversized. I typically wear a medium in women’s clothing :) measure a sweater width wise you want it to be and then divide it by two. Then you’ll know how wide you want to make your hexagon. I’d say do 16 rows and stop to mesure it on you!
I must be a tight crocheter because my sleeves are straight and I have watched this 3 times thinking I have missed something to get them to flare out like that. Lol Always something going on around me when I try and watch something. ❤

@@itsmariechello I am also confused about this part. Should we put the double crochet on the last stitch of the previous row? Since on the first row we worked it into the corner space and we don’t have the corner space on row three. Sorry if that was confusing. Love the video !!
Thank you so much for the tutorial!! I absolutely love the pattern. I’m just having a bit of trouble with joining at the end of the round. When I join it doesn’t look quite right. Could you specify which space you’re joining into?
Hi, I reached to (rows to add width) and i did all the 5, but I feel it is small even though I use the same yarn and the same size hook. What should I do??
You can either go back and add rows to your hexagons but this will make your sleeve wider. Or you can keep adding rows to your width. Did you add 5 rows on each side?
Hi! the measurements of the final sweater are listed in the description. I don't specifically say if its a medium or large because it is quite oversized on me.
I made this and it was amazing I actually got compliments on it I just changed the sleeves, but I was wondering if it’s okay to wash in a washing machine and or drier?
If you used the same yarn as me, they recommend to wash on the gentle cycle, warm water and tumble dry low. You can also wash it by hand in a sink and then roll up into a towel and lay flat to dry if you want to feel more safe about it. :)
I keep ending up with a Pentagon instead of a hexagon and have redone the crocheting from the beginning twice. I have a feeling it has to do with my slip stitch and maybe going to far into the piece. @@itsmariec that makes so much sense and what I think I might have finally done. So excited to be making this pattern and thank you so much for the very helpful tutorial and the reply for clarification!!
Not sure if I'm doing it wrong but when I'm adding width to the sides, I'm getting bumps on the edges :( they are not as clean as when I was doing the hexagon. If I continue and add rows to make the bottom longer, is it still going to look okay? Or do I need to unravel, and redo everything?
Wat een prachtig resultaat. Ik zou graag willen weten waar je de garen gekocht hebt. Ik woon Nederland heb internet gekeken maar kan hem niet vinden.heb je misschien een link voor mij . De kleuren zijn prachtig
for the sleeves, can i do decreases (armpit/ shoulder) all the way for the sleeves without doing the rows that you dont decrease? thank you so much. amazing tutorial
I feel like this depends how tight you want your sleeve to be? If you do two decreases per row, it might be quite snug! Id say check as you go and it also depends on how long you make them :) @@sylvanakavazi3407
Hey there! Love this tutorial, but my hexagon isn't taking on as much of a square shape as I would have hoped. When I fold it, the openings for the sleeve and the bottom of the hem take on a more angled triangle look than square. Is there something I'm doing wrong or a way to fix it?
Mine was like this too! It’s usually the case if your tension is quite loose. I feel like the people using a 100% acrylic yarn will end up with a much more square stiff looking piece. If you’re using this yarn, the drap is very nice and it’s heavy so it seems to be quite stretchy. It should look fine once assembled :)
@@itsmariechow many clusters were on your last row? I’m at 18 clusters and it’s still measuring only 15 inches.. so I just have to keep going or am I doing something wrong lol
Hmm yes I have 18 clusters also. We’re you using a smaller crochet hook? Or you crochet quite tightly? I’d say keep going until it’s the right size for you. Unless you don’t rather a tighter sleeve and want to add width rows and length after ❤
Hmm I don’t think so! If you look I have two time stamps indicating how to add width and length. I’m not sure if any other way would work or make it look even
@@schrisb3614 you could do it every row or every second row. Depends how wide you want your stripes to be :). For the joining method, there are multiple ways to do this, I don’t personally have videos for it though. But there’s a ton on YT if you search color switch join methods in crochet.
Really great tutorial! I have already started on some hexagons but I am using a different size needle an different yarn, and was therefore wondering what the measurements are for your hexagons before you start adding rows to the front, back and sleeves? So do you know how long the sides of your hexagons are? 😍
ahh yes so I measured it flat, from like the side of the body to the edge of the hexagon in the middle. When it is folded into its L shape, so I guess for the whole side of the hexagon it would be twice that. :)@@RebekkaKay
Why is it when I make my rows to add with that the ends of the rows don't line up nicely like in the video? I've watched this video several times, written down the steps and restarted my rows several times and still they don't look like the video.
Are you perhaps using a thicker yarn? It won’t be completely straight. But when you do add the rows to the bottom to add length, it hides the not perfect part!
Finally got to the decreases on the sleeves and am still confused..for the 17rows of decreases is it still only one decrease every other row? Which rows are decreased in the armpit vs shoulder? Thank you!
Yes I started with row one at the shoulder, then a regular row for row 2. Row 3 would be a decrease underarm etc. Just so that it creates a cone decrease I alternate the decrease from shoulder to under arm with a regular row between each :)
No you can make it for free by watching the video. My Etsy pattern is designed for people that want a written version of everything that is explained in the video tutorial!
Hello! I loved your tutorial! I'm working on a Granny Hexagon shirt which is v similar to your pullover, I just don't join at the front. I noticed that on my shirt the back of it sticks out at an angle when my arms are down at my sides but when my arms are stretched out horizontally the back of my shirt lays flush with my back. Any ideas what may be wrong here? And any suggestions for fixing the back so it lays flush all the time? Thank you!
Ah Yeah mine is kind of like that too because it’s so boxy. The only solution would be to add ribbing to it , also depending on the type of yarn, it might be useful to block after you are done. Essentially steaming your work so it has a better hang to it :)
@@itsmariec Thanks for the tips! I will be blocking this for sure, so looking forward to the before and after results! I played around with the neck like a bit to make it smaller and did some decreases on the rows where I was extending the length and the shirt is laying much flatter now! 🙌
Hi not sure if anyone can help but I am a little confused on how to finish the 3rd row when adding with. My second row doesn't have a corner so im not sure where to put the double crochet any advice would be appreciated thanks!
how did you secure the sleeve when you threaded the yarn through? i can’t imagine you just left that loose yarn and weaved it in. that seems not very sturdy and i’m just lost on that part
I did just weave in the end into those two rows of single crochet. When you weave in , you want to make sure to go in one direction and then in the opposite direction also :)
Idk if this is a silly question- but can I make the color blocking happen without using a multicolored yarn? I’ve never done a hexagon stitch so I’m unsure if there are good stopping points where I can switch colors
@@itsmariec in the video it looks like front loops. The loop closest to you and furthest away are the front loops while the loops in the center are back loops I believe
No these are the back loops. Closest to you and furthest. They are the back loops since when you then turn your sweater right side out, your assembly is through the back loops only. Hope that clears it up for you :)

Do you have the same amount of clusters as your sides. ? If you accidentally added more then it would not be straight
This happened to me too and now I'm trying to figure out how to fix it!
@@MorganRodgers13 the edges will look much straighter once you add your length rows :)
How much yarn did you use for this one?
Hi! Are you counting the 18 rows from where you left off in the video or are you counting 18 from when you started the hexagon?
From the start. So when you finish your sides will have 18 clusters total :)
@@itsmariecthank you!
Thanks for this tutorial !! But how many balls of yarn did you use ?
She said two and a half of her yarn cakes
Wat een prachtig resultaat. Ik zou graag willen weten waar je de garen gekocht hebt.
Ik woon Nederland heb internet gekeken maar kan hem niet vinden.heb je misschien een link voor mij .
De kleuren zijn prachtig
Hi! I don’t speak Dutch I’m sorry! This brand is available in Canada or USA. I am unsure on its availability in the rest of the world.
@@itsmariec oke thank you
I really want to add a hood to this does anyone know of a video I can follow pls I'm struggling to find one
It is so beautifull, but could you give te size, please. Thank you. Belgium
The measurements are in the description of the video :)
for the sleeves, can i do decreases (armpit/ shoulder) all the way for the sleeves without doing the rows that you dont decrease? thank you so much. amazing tutorial
For sure yes!
Should i do it one row armpit decrease, one row shoulder decrease? Or should i make both decreases on the same row? Thank you again :)
I want to know whats number of meters you used if it possible, thaaank u ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What are the measurements for the hexagon? Bc I finished my first one and it seems…small. Like maybe for a toddler😂
Oh no lol. The side of one of the hexagon is approximately 18 inches / 18.5 inches
@@itsmariec thank you so much! ☺️
Unless you don’t rather a tighter sleeve and want to add width rows and length after ❤
If I want width and length can I just keep going around avoiding the shoulder area. Or will that make it wonky?
Hmm I don’t think so! If you look I have two time stamps indicating how to add width and length. I’m not sure if any other way would work or make it look even
I messed up and realised I only had 5 points not 6 but I was too far in 😅 wish me luck on my pentagon cardigan
Omg no 🥹
when you switch colors, do you cut the yarn every time? or do u only cut the yarn of all the different colors at the end?
Hi, I don’t switch colours in this video, what are you referring to? Do you mean when I attach a new skein?
@@itsmariec aahh I see it now it’s one yarn with multiple colors. Well do you have any tips on how to switch between yarn colors on this pullover?
@@schrisb3614 you could do it every row or every second row. Depends how wide you want your stripes to be :). For the joining method, there are multiple ways to do this, I don’t personally have videos for it though. But there’s a ton on YT if you search color switch join methods in crochet.
Will be making this 🤭
I just realized that as i am crocheting the inside of the hexagon is facing me. Is that wrong?
The side that’s facing you would be your right side
Did you add rows down the middle to add width on both separate pieces? Or just the one?
Both. Front and back also :)
Hi what type of yarn is this?
Really great tutorial! I have already started on some hexagons but I am using a different size needle an different yarn, and was therefore wondering what the measurements are for your hexagons before you start adding rows to the front, back and sleeves? So do you know how long the sides of your hexagons are? 😍
Its 9.5 inches, measured flat :)
@@itsmariec Thank you! Is that from the middle of the hexagon to the middle of one of the sides or is that from corner to corner?
ahh yes so I measured it flat, from like the side of the body to the edge of the hexagon in the middle. When it is folded into its L shape, so I guess for the whole side of the hexagon it would be twice that. :)@@RebekkaKay
@@itsmariecThank you! 🫶🏻
Ah thank you lol came for this 🙌
Why is it when I make my rows to add with that the ends of the rows don't line up nicely like in the video? I've watched this video several times, written down the steps and restarted my rows several times and still they don't look like the video.
Are you perhaps using a thicker yarn? It won’t be completely straight. But when you do add the rows to the bottom to add length, it hides the not perfect part!
@itsmariec yes, I am and okay, that's what I somewhat assumed I just wanted to make sure
Hello, I want to ask you about the type and number of yarn or anything related to it .Thank you ✨
Everything is mentioned in the video
After finishing the hexagon how exactly you connected the center part? I am confused :/
Do I need to buy the tutorial to watch and follow the video?
No you can make it for free by watching the video. My Etsy pattern is designed for people that want a written version of everything that is explained in the video tutorial!
@@itsmariec oh okay well thank you so much!! I really appreciate a video version 😆 keep up the amazing projects!!
how much wool is in a caron cotton cake i’m just trying to figure out how much wool i’m going to need!
like in grams pls
Hey! You’d put your last DC stacked on top of your last DC in that cluster of 3 from your previous row :)
@@itsmariec thank you!!! I also sent you a dm lol hopefully I'll figure it out!!!!
what do i do if i want bigger collars
How many grams / yards is one cake?
She says 2 and 1/2 cakes
Is that double crochet as per U.K. terminology, or the U.S. one?
US terms :)
@@itsmariec I thought so, thank you.
how did you secure the sleeve when you threaded the yarn through? i can’t imagine you just left that loose yarn and weaved it in. that seems not very sturdy and i’m just lost on that part
You should be able to swap the colors at the end of every round or every few rounds (Depending on how thick you want each row/color to be).
Aren’t you doing front loops only when you’re stitching the parts together?
I’m using the back loops only :)
@@itsmariec oh I see, thanks!!
