This literally saved my life! I was in so much pain after several neck spinal surgeries. There is nothing for soft tissue pain my doctor said. I prayed and searched and found a chiropractor that did this. Several sessions a week for several weeks . No more pain!!! I couldn’t believe how wonderful I feel and this is years later! Look for a Sports Medicine Chiropractor that’s who I went to. I am amazed the Graston techniques breaks down fascia scar tissue that holds muscles therefore the muscles start spasming causing so much pain.
As a nurse I shared this with another nurse the Resident doctor overheard me and said “ oh I don’t believe in Chiropractors” and I told him oh that’s too bad because as a medical practitioner you should be open to anything that’s proven to work on patients health, well being, and quality of life. I shared my story with him how I wanted to die because I didn’t feel I could continue living with so much pain but my Chiropractor changed all that!

bruh, Graston is just a renamed of a Gua Sha, something the Chinese have done for over 1000 years...
      It is not Chiropractic....
If Chiropractic was real/works, they wouldn't need to keep integrating stuff that regular Chinese massage therapists already do.

My chiropractor used Graston on my foot for plantar fasciitis. It helped right away but took a few months for it to go away completely. I also bought Finn Comfort sandals to wear around the house and at work, which also helped. I haven't had any problems with plantar fasciitis in about 5 years now.

Cupping works great in combo with Graston. Cupping is a nice addition to our soft tissue interventions in that it provides a lifting or tractioning effect to the tissue as opposed to the pushing and compression effect of hands on work. Remember that the main reason soft tissue interventions work is thru neuromodulation. The more and diverse ways we can influence the mechanoreceptors and neuromodulate the pain, the better the results.....although the results have been shown to be temporary ie several hours. Repetition is the mother of skill. Teach your patient self massage strategies as well as behavior modification, proper posture, body mechanics and ergonomics in order to break the pain cycle.

"I think that methods like rolling a ball or reflexing your calves were only temporary pain relief measures, and that nothing provided a permanent solution. However, in my case, after suffering from plantar fasciitis for 2.5 years, I managed to fully recover. I have a slight high arch, and here's what I did:
1)Stopped doing all those stretches and raising my heels.
2)Kept my feet off the ground as much as possible.
3)Used a massage gun (around $90 on the internet) to loosen the calf muscles if needed.
4)Got an insole that was firm enough to support the arch.
5)Stopped wearing socks for the time being.
6)Whenever I felt hurt, I stopped walking immediately, didn't push it, and took a short rest.
7)I also bought a pair of soft slides. When I started feeling pain after wearing shoes or when my feet began to feel hot, I would switch to the soft slides. For indoor, I brought one of those pair hoka slides. But for outdoor a normal soft slides is fine.
8)Soaked my feet in a warm to hot foot bath nightly.
9)Before getting out of bed, I gently moved my feet clockwise and anticlockwise.
10)Placed Japanese heat pads on my feet before going to bed (read the instructions before using).
      11) limited sugar/sweets intake.
Finally, if you feel 90% recovered, consider trying hot laser treatments at the podiatrist. You can also start doing some very light stretching, but stop immediately if you feel any pain afterwards.
Please note that these points are not in a specific order; they are just listed in bullet point form. I hope this makes it easy to understand. Those are the ways I recovered my PF; it may not work for others. Each person varies. All the best and hope your PF speedy recovery.

Yes, this works. It was used for my excruciating sciatica nerve pain that ran from my lower back all the way to the tip of my toe sometimes. My chiropractor explained that the nerve runs down your leg in a sheath and if it is impeded by scar tissue or other buildup, it could cause this pain. So she worked on if for a couple of sessions, when she got to my calf I felt it snap free after she went over it. I Literally never had any more pain. So glad I did this rather than have back surgery, which may have helped allow the nerve more room to move by removing some bone, but would not have really fixed the issue. Anyway, going back later this week for some calf Graston fun, I'm running now and am having issues down there and i know this works.

I've been dealing with plantar fasciitis recently, which I haven't had to deal with for over 20+ years now. So Now I am back to rehabbing myself by using a wooden roller which I found at a garage sale, looks like it was used to massage sore feet, I use it in combination with another wooden dowel that I had laying around and one of those mini bats since it's thicker at the top and narrows down to the handle end, also have a golf ball. By varying the different thicknesses of the tools I have I am able to focus on problem areas using the narrow parts and then use the thicker tools to flatten and lessen the pain. I use the weight of my body to apply the pressure I need. I would suggest you do your massage in a room that doesn't have a lot of obstacles like a coffee table because it can make you very light headed quickly and you could lose your balance.
It's taken me about 3 weeks now to get rid of all the inflammation and pain. I am back to normal and my headaches are also gone. Feet pain can really mess you up.

No way you can remain tight if you properly excercise and stretch.
      Evaluate make sure that:
You warm up before starting training, second
You stretch right after, while you are warm, and
You remain physically active 2hrs after ( meaning you don't sit down to watch TV or go to sleep right after)
And of course, you need to know what and how to stretch in order to stretch all the concerned musles in all needed directions.

This technique does wonders, however if you observe the grastin channel, it is done slower and over a longer period of time. It is not supposed to cause terrible pain. I would not allow someone to strap my leg down to do this. Slowly over time gradually increasing pressure. Also he didn’t use emollients which is absolutely necessary! I fear too many people do this without the proper training.

bunburyjordan is not just the tools (and Graston tools are very expensive at around 2K) but the know how and training in the proper technique. How much pressure, how long, what direction are all important. Without the proper training, you may cause more damage to the tissues you are trying to heal.

There are many factors in plantar foot treatment. One place I discovered that succeeds in merging these is the Natural Foot Wizard (check it out on google) definately the most helpful treatment i've seen.Check out the extraordinary info .

How come this guy isn't screaming in pain like I was... I think it should be more aggressive otherwise youre not breaking up the scar tissue. Ive had graston done on both arms. It was painful but worked. Im having it done for plantar fasciitis now and it reallllyy hurts.

Unfortunately a lot of people experience a large volume of pain with these techniques. The problem is a lot of practitioners apply far too much pressure and its not nessecary. The nervous system and tissue actually have a better response to gentler pressure. With a lot of these techniques, we are just neuromodulating tone and basically opening a small window of time for relief.

A massage therapist can treat plantar fasciitis in the course of a 30 or 60 minute massage. And you won't have to go to an M.D. for a referral to PT.

Ahh! That looks so painful! My legs are super sensitive. Today, however, I was dx w/ a plantar facia spur AND an Achilles insertion spur. I may succumb to this. I am a massage therapist (in a hospital physical therapy dept), where I can I find those tools? Also, did you use a lubricant on the skin or dry?

    • @tortoisenhare
      @tortoisenhare 10 лет назад +2

If you're an MT and super sensitive you may be fascially bound in your legs? try cupping to break up the trapped tissue

    • @cliffburton5696
      @cliffburton5696 9 лет назад +3

Tiffany Leiter a lubricant is used, to aid the practitioner to pinpoint the scar tissue and adhesions by allowing the instruments to glide over the tissues. Any spot where the gliding is diminished is an area of fascial restrictions. Also the lubricant has emollient properties which enhances the petechia bruising (mild inflammation) which brings fresh blood to the area.

This is just one of those "oh, imma invent something new thats not really new but people are desperate so i will sell it anyways and give it a fancy name-to make it more professional- type of thing"

Does this work? Why have they not told me about this therapy? I have been to about 8 centers for plantar facitis & they are very expensive @ nearly 300 a session & that is one therapist sending 4 to 6 clients on differing weight machines during a single session but no time for ultrasound or one on one.

People can do this work on their own. Graston is a Gua Sha ripoff. Gua Sha is an ancient Chinese massage modality. People can buy Gua Sha tools online. They can watch Gua Sha videos on RUclips. It doesn't take a Physical Therapist, a HCFA 1500 form and a medical/insurance ripoff to be able to do self massage DAILY for better results than going somewhere once a week/month.

Maybe for some, not for me though. I had some serious build up and it was painful to the point that I had to laugh so I wouldn't cry. There is no way you could put that much pressure on your own calf. Maybe for minor issues you could but I would recommend the foam roller as well.

u dont need that pressure...u cant break up scar tissue with foce unless u can bring up 2000lbs pressure..what happens is the neurological realse wich results in less muscletone and less pain..u dont need all that useless pressure..
