@SpudRunGolf I have been following the West Point commit. My son is working on Naval Acedemy admission. It takes a different kind to WANT it and then go DO it. Congrats to you and Kimberly and your son. That's huge, man.
Amazed at how fast you were able to lay those bricks down and have the Hack Shack ready for the guests! Hopefully the rest of the season goes well with your guests. Thanks for sharing the work on the projects ! Brandon
I'll never forget the scolding I gave one "pro" for not telling her 3 students to fix the pitch mark on the practice green... she never set foot on the facility again, I was steaming 😂 can't imagine how you'd feel knowing you're the one spending countless hours caring for your little peace of golfing paradise. Love your content! Keep up the good work, watching from Thailand.
I admire the hell out of your work ethic. You put in the work and deserve all the spoils. Hopefully there are enough spoils at this point. Great content! 👍
So disappointing to see someone wouldn’t respect the passion and time you’ve put into that place. That said, course is looking great as always. You’ll be headed towards my neck of the woods for your cart it sounds! Can’t wait to see the next video, Ryan definitely knows his stuff!! Kept it bud!
@clubcar This would be an excellent partnership. Make it happen! This is probably one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time. The effort that went into this is nothing less than a labor of love. I'd love to be able to see the place one day.
Hey Spud Run! I am a greenkeeper in New Zealand and golfers are always the biggest problem to deal with Hahaha. Looking after the course is easy but managing golfers is something else. I am a big fan of your channel mate been binging some videos recently. Your place looks so picturesque I would love to come see it one day! You do a fantastic job and put in a lot of effort and it shows. Keep it up mate all the best!
Good on you for saying no more. Your green, your rules. Hopefully you can weed out the bad groups before they come on the property. Course is looking primo!
Used golf carts is a great excuse for another trip to AGUSTA baby!!!! Don’t know if you know this but the three major golf cart manufacturers are all based in agusta, the golf cart graveyard is impressive!
love the fact that you jam out to Benjamin Todd/ Lost dog street band. one of these days id love to build a par 3 on my land im north of columbus so im lucky to have several great courses around me.
Just an idea for the Hack Shack. Only allow the soft, "trainor" style balls. They don't fly exactly true, but they are still fun to hit, and they won't tear the green to pieces.
I have always said, The first people to complain about the shape of a golf course, are the ones that can give a deal about you, your family, or your course. R E S P E C T! A T I T U D E! Sure goes a long way.
That sucks man. Not all Michigan people are jerks!!!! I’m hoping to be able to come south to hit your spot up while we go to hawking hills!!! Perhaps implement some sort of security deposit with the agreement that people keep it in good shape?
Has to be super disheartening to see the damage done and the lack of effort to fix it by the guests. I give you major props for sharing your creation with others. Have you considered a target green? Following your channel I know the absolutely tremendous undertaking creating a new green would be, but maybe a turf practice green for late night target practice etc.? Thanks for keeping us entertained.
I've wondered about the green getting beat after hours. Foam or plastic balls is a much cheaper idea than I had. Install a separate synthetic green and move the hack shack sponsored by Busch Light.
I'm not sure how your current "orientation" goes when new guests arrive, but if you're not already doing it I would explain that this course and its equipment are run by a one-man show and that it's done out of pure love and passion - and that it should be treated with the same respect by its guests. If upon inspection it's determined that the group isn't upholding that standard then they will be barred from the course and refunds will not be given. In the vain of catching more flies with honey, you might even add the stipulation that if all divots and pitch marks are repaired and carts are driven and parked where they should be then the group will get some exclusive merch reserved only for the most respectful guests. I know this shouldn't have to be incentivized in the first place but it might just be the nudge some people need to not be buffoons. Either way I love the channel and your passion for the game and course management and hope to someday make the trek from California if you decide to keep it open to the public. Cheers!
Dang it man if some jackoffs ruined my chance to get to play spud run.... I'm just up the road in Columbus. The golf is one thing for me, but more so I'm just a grass nerd. I'd probably get as much enjoyment talking shop with you as i would playing golf.
I've heard you mention West Point but I thought it was the Ohio Farmers son. As a West Point mom I know you're so proud of your son. One of the first recruits our son met was from Waverly, OH which was cool since my ancestors have been in Waverly forever. I have a cousin in Waverly in construction thats probably about your age, I've always figured you might know him. Our family treats West Point gear as almost sacred, we don't put things in the recycling items. I have a West Point mom shirt I'd love to pass along to Miss Kim and I also have a West Point Dad shirt I'd like to send you if you're interested. Shirts like those have a shelf life since our son is now in line for a promotion to Lt. Col. His wife is also a West Pointer. I'd love to pass them along to you.
One thing that drives me crazy is not seeing ball marks and divots repaired. Just put up some signs that say repair ball marks and divots or you will be removed from the course, or have to pay a fee.
Ban them from pounding the green but give them an alternative target someplace off to the side? Also personal rule: Fix as many ball marks as time permits. Put a sign up and teach them.
You should consider an artificial turf green if you plan to continue to rent out the course. Realistically, guests are going to want to play a lot of golf when they stay and that being the only green for a "9 hole" course AND having the chipping area right at the house means its going to get pelted hundreds or thousands of times every weekend and is going to be nearly impossible to keep in great shape. Even with "good" guests that respect the course and try to repair ball marks you cant expect that they will do a perfect job or be as attentive to the green as you, the owner, will be. Its inevitable that there will be bad guests that do more than their fair share of damage, too. Im sure you spend a high % of your maintenance time caring for the green. A good artificial green would probably save you tons of time, , money, and headaches in the long run and really would not diminish what youve built here. Maintaining a real green is probably a labor of love for you but once you open up the course to heavy use from others you will probably always be frustrated at the state of it and the wear and tear it will take from heavy use.
That’s terrible man. People can have a good time. But be respectful and understand how much of a privilege it is to play there. People are just becoming less and less conscientious, and more and more self-centered. And that just sucks. I’m not too far down the road and would still love to make it out there to stay and play at the BnB. But would completely understand if you ended up scaling back in the play portion.
Honestly my opinion I would leave a ball repair tool like the ones golf course maintenance use and just leave it in a designated spot somewhere around the green.

Ya gotta just put a stipulation that improper care of the course and it's facilities will result in a charge. If you make a point to tell people, then they have no one to blame but themselves.
Is there a way you could pre-vet people somewhat? Or at least have a waiver where you could charge people for damages, if theyre significant? I know you dont wanna bother w it, but youre also clearly a smart guy. I bet youll figure something out.. if you want to lol.
Really sad that folks can't understand the concept of fixing ball marks. It takes literally 5 seconds. Just add a policy if they don't fix em the night before they can't play the next day.
Could you put up ropes to keep people from driving where you don't want them to go? Ball marks are inexcusable....🤬....take care of the course and the course will take care of you!!
This is unfortunate. I wish I could say I am surprised by these events, but I am not. We now accept that we live in a world where people just don't care about or respect any interests than their own. There are a few privately owned and operated courses in Central Ohio that I make a point of playing, because I'd like them to stay in business, but most of them have clearly-defined standards for guests. Perhaps you should give every group of guests a run down on the green of how you want ball marks fixed before they go out on the course to play.

You gotta take a stand. I know you hated to do it but that was a lot of damage. Foam or plastic balls from the hack shank unless you’re playing it in your regular round. All after hours use should be foam or plastic.
Excited to have Ryan on the channel. I've followed him for, gosh, probably 10 years or so. Hopefully he was able to handle the TTTF as he loves his sissy Rye grass ;) Sometimes people suck. It has to be the biggest drawback of being a small business owner, heck any business owner. Those milling will be fantastic for the cart paths. Hack shack turned out awesome as well. I can't believe people don't have golf etiquette, especially at a self made backyard golf hole. Selfish people don't care. I'd treat that place like Augusta. But I grew up with my own backyard golf hole so I have a different perspective I guess. Edit: I'm from Michigan and I'm ashamed of these guys.
It's a shame to see people tear up such a beautiful piece of property. Keep up the good work JSF. I remember that pin from last year. It was an absolute bear. That was a good way to get back at them for missing some ball marks.
Glad to see a video today, it’s been a minute. So sorry to hear about the lack of quality guest or visitors to the course. It’s hard to believe that there are people out there who just don’t care about other peoples property or hard earned work. As the years have gone in my 53 years of age, I have learned more and more to take care of something that’s not yours and my patience for those that don’t has got thinner and thinner. Hopefully there was something in place to be able to recoup the damages down to the cart. Thanks again for the video and update and hope all gets better.
