Steve rinella is one of the most awesome human beings on the planet. He knows more about game animals and wildlife then most people do. He has literally been attacked by a bear! And has picked up parasites from eating uncooked meat! He haunts with a bow as well he is an outdoorsman. If everyone lived like this man the population would fall, because most people could not do what he does. He respects the animals that he gets, and nothing goes to waste.

Great job clearing things up. I think it’s great that Steve is working with someone who might not agree 100 percent with his ideals. Hunting gets an unfair bad rap and we need to do a better job of informing everyone of the ethics that go into the hunt and instead of fighting those who will oppose what we do no matter what we do.!we should concentrate on the 70 percent of those that don’t hunt but agree with our rights to hunt. We all have different opinions but that shouldn’t preclude us from having a civilized conversation. Thanks

I am a huge Rinella fan, and a Michigan Hunter. I have harvested every deer the last 15 years with an AR pattern rifle in .308 caliber. The AR pattern lends itself well to Michigan weather, is very accurate and is very customizable for youth hunting. I would guess the reason Steve would not use this pattern of rifle in a big game hunt would be the weight of the rifle, as an AR10 weighs almost twice what a standard .308 bolt gun weighs.

Love your show, love Steve and love Meat Eater. You talk a lot about the fact that you're mainly criticized by people on the right and not so much the left. I listen and watch many out door shows including yours, Steve's, Randy Newberg's, etc.. you all say the same thing and seem to be shocked that it's the right side you're getting most of your feedback from, whether it be positive or negative. It doesn't seem to be that perplexing of a phenomenon. Your'e getting that higher skewed feedback from the right because the majority of your listeners/followers are on the right. If there was some way to poll your followers/listeners (at 100% certainty that they all participated honestly) i'm sure that the proportion of right vs left followers you have and the right vs left feedback you receive is fairly consistent. Simple statistics there. I'm sure that Steve's brother could help you figure it out and clarify it, being that he is a statistician. Anyways, this is not a negative comment, just thought I could offer a simple solution to your right sided feedback mystery. I appreciate your work in the conservation of wildlife, hunting, and fishing. I would love to talk with you guys about some of the topics you discuss, come to Vegas and lets do a show. Thanks.

But not exactly “Conservative” And here’s the thing, I care less about what you are “Democrat” “Republican” “Liberal” “Conservative” because I’ve had people I’ve agreed with and disagreed with on every side. I enjoyed the vid! I wasn't aware of this "controversy" and would agree it's not much of one at all.
FWIW, I almost strictly hunt with various AR15s. Granted I live in the midwest in a state that has a straight-walled cartridge law for whitetail.... I utilize two AR15s (a 16" and a 10.5") chambered in 450 Bushmaster for whitetail. Everything else I typically hunt including coyote, prairie dog, various varmint, etc I will use an AR15 typically chambered in 5.56 NATO or 223 Wylde. There are a lot of hunters in this area that do the same. I would say MOST use AR15s for about everything we can except for birds. ARs are used quite commonly for hunting once you get away from the big game and waterfowl. There is that one-off of Kyle Lamb harvesting a bull moose in Alaska with an S&W M&P 10 chambered in 308 though.

I love Steve and he can talk to and do business with whomever he wants. Now that that’s out of the way; the 2nd amendment has absolutely zero to do with hunting. I get so tired of people conflating the two. 2A is about defending against tyrants, not shooting quail. Plenty of Dems and Rhinos love to go hunting, but absolutely abhor the thought of an average joe being as well armed as government emoloyees. You can look at the NRA-the board over the years has been filled with what we call “fudds”, centrists who generally only care about their bolt action rifles and pump shotguns, who’ve time and time again failed their constituents in regards to gun control. Look at just about every major piece of gun legislation-they’ve been signed off by the NRA and rhino leaders. That’s why us 2A proponents are so quick to dig our heels in; never once has our negotiating with the left gone our way, it’s always us losing the inch. We’re done “talking” about gun control.

I listen to the Meateater podcast, have watched every episode of the show and have read a few of Steven Rinella books. I have never gotten a vibe from him that he leans heavily towards either party. He and the crew care about hunting and fishing and public access. I think they feel like political refugees because the Republican's want to sell public lands and Democrats want to take the guns. I think we should all look at the issues and look at every politicians agenda, regardless of their political party. It is possible to oppose certain Republican agendas and not be completely left wing.

Meat Eater and Steven Rinella is one of the best hunting shows out there. The reason I enjoy his show so much it is about the hunt. The friendships built. Cooking in the wild. Conservation. I agree that he leaves politics out of his shows which I truly enjoy. You are also correct that there are people on both sides that enjoy hunting and believe in conservation. Rinella is the best person out there to introduce hunting, conservation to new hunters and show a different side of hunting and more why we hunt. As long as he remains in control of content and not allow the liberal influence into the show it will remain at the top.

Steve is what hunting is supposed to about, putting food on the table. He isn't about shooting trophy animals to place on his walls like most hunters that produce videos. He also shows how to properly dress, skin, and prepare the meat, which is important, so the meat harvested doesn't spoil or go to waste. I firmly believe that any bird or animal shot should be eaten or used for something rather than shooting for it fun or a wall mount.

The problem is that 2nd amendment “controversy” is always in relation to AR’s .....it’s like they seem to forget that an AR is one single type of firearm. It is not responsible or ethical to make any decisions or judgments about the 2nd amendment based on only one single type of firearm. When that happens it causes the people who aren’t familiar with firearms at all to see all firearms as tools to unleash “mass murder and mayhem”. It’s so unfair to the entire country. If people would really sit down and take 5 minutes to understand that AR’s have a purpose and that they should not be upheld as the face of the 2nd amendment. In reality our 2nd amendment rights are extremely valuable and should be protected at all cost, not because we as Americans feel entitled, but because this country was hard won by men who fought, bled, and died for our freedom and they were able to do so because they were equipped with the same weapons as the British. Without those firearms the British would have came over and cleaned fucking house. The right to bare arms is what won is our freedom and our four fathers saw that and made damn sure every single American has the right to protect their home and family. All I ask is that anyone who “hates the 2nd amendment” take a few minutes to understand that guns are not evil. They serve a purpose. It is absolutely dangerous and inflammatory to form opinions on the 2nd amendment without first really taking the time learn about it.

Steve understands a background check doesn’t impede someone’s ability to hunt.

This is my first listen to you guys. You’re doing a nice job of representing the middle and staying out of the weeds on either side. I am a liberal and a hunter who thinks that reasonable gun laws could help save lives. That doesn’t mean I oppose the second amendment. It does mean that I’m not scared that the government will come for my hunting guns if we allow for further investigation into peoples’ history before selling them a gun and limiting rapid fire guns. I believe our government made it onerous to own machine guns in the mid 1930s. That didn’t lead to loss of hunting tools (guns). When there are so many mass shootings occurring, something must be done. Stay open, true and right. Nice job young men. Being liberal to me represents more about the freedom for people to be themselves. I love our freedoms (be you) and am okay with living with a longer waiting period and having to chamber another round manually.

Steve Rinella gives an educated, considerate discourse of key issues. He can speak as an open minded centrist, and help us all see things in a greater light. (If you just want to hate on him because he’s a hunter, or uses guns, then don’t watch a damn hunting show!)
I hope to gain a lot more knowledge from his show, podcast, and books. He’s an original, and has my absolute respect even when I disagree with him.

People forget. Hunting is a privilege. You have to buy a license to hunt and follow the rules. If you break the rules and get caught you can lose your privilege to hunt. 2A is a right given to all men and women of the USA. Under the constitution if you are a felon, you can lose certain rights.
2A issues should not be turned into hunting issues and vice versa. They are far different and should not be confused to be the same. You can't say we only need to hunt with a bolt action rifle because you don't need a 30 round "clip". That's two different issues and should be settled in two discussions. Not just one.
Calm down and please listen to each other.
