I've had the pleasure of knowing and riding with Sam for about 40 years. He is the same kinda guy now as he's always been !!! I had a school teacher who had a 2932 new imperial, red and black I think .
I remember back in the 60's Sammy Miller seemed unbeatable on a trials bike. I'd heard of this museum a few months back and wondered if it was the same guy. Turns out it is. Thank you for a lifetime devoted to motorcycles and motor cycling. All the best.
Hi guys, I have been collecting bikes for last 10 years or so, I now have 10 bikes total. It is slow but I'm a bit picky as to what I want to buy. Questions: When you store bikes in your museum, do you leave the oil in the engine or drain it out? I drain them out, put fogging oil in the cylinders and cycle the bikes (kick it 30 times or so) every 6 months.
Sammy's such a nice guy. I was showing him pictures of my Domiracer Lowboy replica and he took the time to chat and seemed genuinely interested. In a world where there are some men who can't seem to take women seriously even when they are equally if not more knowledgeable Sammy and the late Peter Williams stand out as different. It's such a shame that the New Imperial name has been coopted by a bunch of hippsters for use on some uninspiring commuter bikes aimed at other hippsters.
I like the cantilever rear suspension. I believe New Imperial were ahead of HRD in having this, but Brough Superior was earlier. I wonder if there were any legal fights over patents? A lovely project to take on.
I love this guy. Such a bad ass...and he's doing great work restoring these rare bikes.

Hi Sam, Looking under the seat of the New Imperial who said momo-stock rear end was a new invention?

Respekt!
I have never seen spiral gear on the primary drive before. Only chain. Was it common in the old days?
No but it's almost universal in modern bikes primary drives.
Mutt motorcycles bought the rights to the name and have a New Imperial Tracker model 125cc.
Yes, I saw them at a trade show. The venerable name has been slapped on some Chinese commuter bike by a bunch of hipsters. Very sad 😔
