  • Take a breather to dance through Armenian disco history together.
In our first episode of Studio Conversations: Darone Sassounian, we dive into the history of Harout Pamboukjian, Parseghian Records, and the Los Angeles Armenian disco scene of the 70s and 80s.
Darone of Rocky Hill Records released his compilation ‘Silk Road: Journey of the Armenian Diaspora (1971-1982)’ through Terrestrial Funk with a mission to explore the hidden gems of Armenian disco, funk, and soul.
We aim to do the same with Studio Conversations: Darone Sassounian. Watch as Darone explores this fascinating era of Armenian culture through these iconic records and their significance.

That Avo Haroutiounian record really is such an amazing record. I remember being absolutely blown away by what i was listening to when i first discovered it almost 20 years ago in a thrift shop. Every track is a banger. It's one of my most sacred gems in my collection...and this is coming from a Korean American in his mid 40s! Much respect to my Armenian bros out there!

Passing by the store and not seeing Parseghian Records breaks my heart. They produced and distributed Armenian Music like no other. It was like my Church, I’d go there every week to hear Armenian music and get that cultural nourishment. ♥️

thank you brother! I am half Armenian and have grown up seeing harout singing at family weddings and the such. unfortunately I never learned the language but I now have a deep appreciation for the Armenian music and family I have. Silk Road is an amazing record by the way.

Well presented. There are so many Armenian music and radio presenters you can try to get in touch, that will expand your knowledge about Armenian music productions back in the 60's to the 80's. Hope to see episode 2 soon.
