it's true for me as well. my mom's father died of natural causes when I was 4 years old back in June, 2002 according to mom. Now, I shed a tear thinking about that. I would've loved to getting to know him, but he's long gone now. I lost him at a young age and he wasn't even fifty yet now that I think about it.

This was the number one song on the day I was born, pretty fitting considering my mom had to leave his concert to give birth to me. This song holds a special place in my heart.
You would've been proud, your highness. You would have shed so many tears of joy and felt the warmth of your first grandchild in your bosom had you been with us just a bit longer...We miss you, Princess Diana. After all these years, we have never forgotten your compassionate heart, glowing smile, and your efforts to make the world a better place.

She was a beautiful soul who was lost in the crowd. A child who wanted to feel wanted loved and cared for but never did. RIP Marilyn I'll always remember you .
I think this song truly captures the essence of Marilyn Monroe .. "never knowing who to cling to when the rain set in" ... tragic but perfectly articulated ❤❤
@@emmsss8934 this song was originally for Marilyn Monroe. The lady Diana one was sung many years after the songs release. Elton has never performed the lady di version after singing it at her funeral
@@dinobarros5257 It was originally written for Marilyn Monroe. Her birth name was Norma Jean, hence "Goodbye Norma Jean" and even the obvious line in the song about the press saying how "Marilyn was found in the nude" which makes it pretty clear that this song has everything to do with her
This song hits different today. My mom idolized Marilyn Monroe her whole life. She looked uncannily like her too. The same hair, eyes, smile. She was compared to her a lot. My mom endured an incredibly hard life filled with abuse, tragedy, addiction, and loss... three years ago she got cancer and passed away in my arms when I was only 20. This song always made her emotional, and hearing it now, the lyrics remind me of her so much too. It hurts twice as much now...
Sad. I'm sorry about what happened to your mom. My grandmother died of cancer. I liked her very much. She fought it for a year. And it was a difficult year for me and the whole family. I wish you much happiness and love in your life. ❤️

I was in a train listening to this song and when I closed my eyes I saw the love of my life standing in the rain, crying. I hugged her as tight as I can. My heart beat like drums and I could feel hers beating the same way. She hasn't said 'yes' yet. Hope she does someday!
The morning of Diana's funeral, I went to my favorite point at Grand Canyon National Park and sat thinking about all the sadness. A hiker who had been camping in the inner Canyon stopped and asked why I looked so sullen. I simply said: Lady Diana was laid to rest.
I guess very few can withstand the pressures of being famous because the demands are high, gossips abound and there is no privacy. Plus the constant need to do better and be better. Most exhausting.

Marylin pursued the industry she rise to the top of a tough and ruthless business she was incredibly intelligent and street smart. She was hurt by her upbringing and never healed. I hope she is with God in heaven.
In the ealy 70s, I had a transistor radio. I would surf between stations like BBC, VOA, Radio Australia, Radio Kuwait and many others looking for their music programs. Elton john was such a staple around the world, no program was complete without one of his songs. He became my second favorite after Elvis and I guess he still is.
+adam schofield She definitely was not privileged, (her mother did not want her and she had a very troubled childhood). If being a star is being a brat, we have much bigger "brats" than this one. She was a movie star, and left a legacy that has inspired some of Hollywood's biggest stars, and continues to inspire other.

Of course he didn't bloody well see her as sexual. The man is gayer than a row of drag queens. That said, it's a very good song and I am sure a lot of people can feel that it encapsulates their yearning for something / someone they have never experienced / known.
Showering nostalgic memories of one of the most Beautiful Woman in the world both physically & by her humanitarian efforts ... Love you Diana ....each time we hear Elton's song you just come alive before us.....Thank you..,an admirer from India.

@@MrAdriancooke Her mother, Gladys, was with a norwegian man at the time whose name was Mortensen. When Marilyn was born, she suspected him to be the father but accidentally wrote down Mortenson. She later got with a man named Baker, but Marilyn is also on record saying that Gladys panicked and wrote down the profession as baker. Marilyn was referred to as Baker in all of her school records.
Vendela Venkman - Gladys actually married John Baker first. Before Norma Jeane was even born. Then in 1924 two years before she was born, Gladys divorced John and remarries a man named Martin Mortenson. They don’t know who her real father was, that’s why they always either call her Baker or Mortenson.
I don't know why but...I got reminded of Michael Jackson as I listened to this. This song is so relatable to Michael. I understand why after I listened to the song my mom was crying when she listened to this.

Media can be so cruel they can't let her rest in peace! Thank you Sir Elton John for remembering her for a Beautiful Woman with a heart. God Bless you🥀☝️🥀🎹☝️
Lost my mum in 1997 n met my wife Joana lived n loved for 21 years with our only Son Benjie n 2 adopted daughters Susie n Lisa...till God called her to her resting place.2018...

one of the most beautiful songs ever
The best music memorial for a great but unhappy woman : Marylin Monroe
+marco brenni And later on-Princess Diana
Marylin pursued the industry she rise to the top of a tough and ruthless business she was incredibly intelligent and street smart. She was hurt by her upbringing and never healed. I hope she is with God in heaven.
Guess you maybe a very big fan of Elton John when he was alive
My personal favourite Elton John song. So heartfelt and beautfully written. I am also a huge Marylin Monroe fan.
Every budding superstar should listen to this at the start of their career
To our boys Nick and Griffin. The real Beamng.drive was inside them all along.
Thanks.
katamarocker2 To our boy Nick Crompton because his collar stays poppin'
real shame that nick had to sour that series by harassing women on twitter and getting fired

It's kinda of a small horse. I mean, what am I missing?
Sorry about not having a clue, but who is Sebastian?
I cry every time. I'm wearing a Marilyn shirt right now. Her candle may be burnt but the legend will never burn out.
that song has been writen in 1973... 45yo !! and so talented !!! one of my fav of Sir ELTON
Out to Marilyn Monroe...but also to Michael Jackson, Robin Williams, and so many more in my opinion..

amy winehouse :)

Only thing 5000 times better than a candle in the wind is 5000 candles in the wind
TRUUUEEEE
+Brit Dear I just started watching Parks & Rec over a last week and just watched that episode last night.
"I have cried twice in my life. Once when I was 7 and I was hit by a school bus and then again when I heard Li'l Sebastian had passed."
That show is pure gold aha
+Heather what grow some balls
valkor73 it's a quote from the show stupid

Today my grandma was laid to rest and Elton John was one of her favourite singers ❤
I listen to this song everyday...
#RIPMarilyn

Thurday 23rd January 2020. What a great song by Elton John. R.I.P Norma Jean and Princess Diana. Both of you will always be in our hearts. Thank you. From Virginia Clark.?! :( ;( :)
It was 1997 ,I saw it live on Egypt TV. .rest in peace Dianna! Love from Egypt.
Goodbye Norma Jean from the young man from the 22nd row who sees you as more than sexual... God I love this line!
I never heard that line before,Lucy.....that is Profound!
Yanger Aier maybe he didn’t know at that time because it says he was young
I love it just as much. It is indescribably profound!
Of course he didn't bloody well see her as sexual. The man is gayer than a row of drag queens. That said, it's a very good song and I am sure a lot of people can feel that it encapsulates their yearning for something / someone they have never experienced / known.
Yea, he bought the cheap seats
Goodbye, Chadwick Boseman. You left way, way too soon but you will never be forgotten.
Why r u bringing him here
Because it’s a song about loss you woke tit
Who is here May 2024. Big love from Kenya.Hit a like please.

Conny Lake long time ago i have realized that
Conny Lake Good. You've become one of us.
Sing anyway
I just found out that yesterday would've been Marilyn Monroe's 90th birthday.
R.I.P. Norma Jeane Mortnenson
Yeah, she was a good one that girl.
I thought it was Norma Jean Baker
@@maharbar3784 Oh cool.
❤ LEGACY of LEGENDS taken young, song of pure heart ... music of soul - thank you Sir Elton John and Bernie 13 Feb 2024 ❤
He sang this for Diana. Gone to soon....Princess of HEARTS. A Blessing to humanity.....Thank you for being so very BRAVE.
Thanks to my English teacher. Now i love this song
my favorite part is the vocal harmony at 2:45. absolutely gorgeous.
Bye bye lil' Sebastian
I don't know why but...I got reminded of Michael Jackson as I listened to this. This song is so relatable to Michael. I was only 3 when he died and was not introduced to him since my parents made me listen to the music they liked. If I knew a little earlier....just a little bit .... I'm tearing up!!!
The wat he sang this at Princess Diana's Funeral with of courses changes to the song was incredible. Very heartwretching
Rip Li'l Sebastian
Am reading tru all the comments .. and Wil like someone to tel me the story behind Lil Sebastian...5000 candles in the wind..waiting on a reply
Miss him in the sadest fashion):
Does hearing this song make anyone else cry?
Guess you maybe a very big fan of Elton John when he was alive
I'm glad Nick and Griffin were reunited in the time ring.
My uncle lost his battle to cancer this morning and my mom was very heartbroken. As I was getting dropped off at school I told my mom "Stay strong" and right as I leave this song played. My mom was in tears and her coworker said it was a sign he is in heaven and safe and sound with his daughter. I understand why after I listened to the song my mom was crying when she listened to this.
We buried our first born brother yesterday . truly he was a candle in the wind and he never bothered any of us always giving his whole.truly I would have liked to really know him.
... may he rest in peace with many angels around him -
my condolence to his family .....

“So I’m probably just gonna go to sleep for like a thousand years, are you good?”
“Alright, you can lean the seat back if you want to.”
“Okay.”
