    The body positivity movement (mainly throughout the late 2010’s) was also super forced. It got lost in translation and made people think that they had to “be in love” with themselves and their bodies. That’s why body neutrality is a lot more effective in my opinion. Why do we have to feel attractive 24/7 or find everything about ourselves attractive? It’s disingenuous and exhausting because we all have some sort of insecurity. I also love the idea of being vocal about our insecurities and accepting that we’d rather “hide” something than to be ashamed for hiding it. For example, I don’t like my arms too much. Never have, probably never will. So I proudly don’t wear tank tops. It’s just something true about me that I easily solve and call it a day. Doesn’t mean I hate myself.

      Body neutrality is also better for disabled people. For example, you don't have to love your body that day you cant get up your bed because of the pain; you just have to accept it and search for the accomodations that make your life easier

    Just the other day I saw a man on FB make a joke about Kate Winslet's weight in Titanic. That was a very unpleasant blast from the past. I remember when the film came out I was in 6th grade and I it was crazy to see how people made so much fun of her weight as being too heavy - a healthy, slim weight. So disturbing to reflect on that.

    Being thin also represents equilibrium. I’ve been overweight. It’s from overconsumption of calories. Therefore that is controllable. My equilibrium of weight is based on my height and frame. Extra weight is distorting. We all look better in clothing with less lumps and rolls. Again, I’ve been heavy so no shade. When I’m slimmer, my face isn’t puffed up (distortion) and my belly isn’t hanging over. How could those things possibly be how I was supposed to grow up and look? It’s not.

    I think an important thing is that within this discussion because there are naturally different body types some people are naturally more thin. And some people find it much harder to lose weight and are naturally heavier and/or look heavier. But 100% People in the comments saying it's about dicipline and just Working Hard Enough to be healthy are the kind of people who will blame those in poverty for Not Trying Hard Enough to focus on weightloss. When less nutritious more dense fatty foods are easier and cheaper to access. As well as giving you more energy for a job than carbless salads and lean protein. if they even have the time or energy to make that shit.
    The idea of moralising weight and to some degree health as well is incredibly tied to status and wealth

    • @JR-sx3gl
      @JR-sx3gl 2 дня назад +3

      Agreed. It's like saying: "Your Romantic body type is unhealthy and if you ate better and exercised more you would become a Gamine." Obviously anyone knowing those terms would never say that, but how many times what someone was saying was basically this.
      Poverty has levels. I remember two families in my area that were the poorest when I was a kid. One was basically walking skeletons because of malnutrition, they really didn't have food but they grew tall. Other family were the fattest out of the area. It's hard not to gain weight when all you have for your family is potatoes, bread and lard. The kids are hungry, they will fill their bellies with what they have access to. When you are really hungry you don't count calories.

    While I agree with you that thin is a status symbol I think the bigger reason thin is in is because being thin is a symbol of health. Obesity is linked to many chronic diseases. As someone who’s lost 90lbs I can tell you life is so much better in a healthy body. On so many levels, mental and physical. I still have an additional 75 lbs to lose and I’m not stopping.

    Nowadays some people who’s BMI is 18,5 - 20 are considered thin. Even though it is still a normal weight. The normal has changed. Back in the 1970s almost everyone seemed to be thin compared to people of today. And clothes back then were not flexible, they just had to fit. Or people had to fit into their clothes. In most cases, having extra fat in your body damages the health. Fat tissue causes inflammation - and cellulite hurts. It is not any more healthy for humans to have extra fat than it is for animals. Are we concerned for fat cats and dogs. Yes - who is not? But people, well no. Because people are masters of self-deception.
    So I actually do not agree on this status perspective. Sickly thin looks scary, but slim is in because it is the healthiest form of human body. And therefore considered also aesthetically the most attractive. So preferring slim over fat is just completely natural.

      18.5-20 is thin though, and has always been, healthy thin….normal would be 21-23, generally considered most s3xually attractive globally and regardless of era (even back in ancient times if you look at Greek sculptures), even if it’s never trending….both are healthy.

      I feel like the US is trapped in it's own bubble. I grew up there and as a kid would visit my relatives in Europe every summer. I was suprised to see so many slim people. Now I live in Europe and every time I vist the US, I am shocked by the amount of people who are over weight. My BMI is 20, I consider myself fit but not thin. In the US strangers will approach me and ask me what I do to stay so thin. It is odd.
      Too much belly fat is a big health risk. I also feel like evolutionary it makes sense that big bellies are not deemed attractive. Nature wants us to choose a partner with as few health risks as possible.

      @@fatoumfatoumehreally? In Finland officially 18,5-25 is just concidered normal 😅 Here it is where the body type plays a great role. Waist emphasis is must for them so you must have a small waist to emphasize.

    I agree completely! Also some groups of people are naturally predisposed to carry more fat to be healthy. The BMI is based on european standards of beauty and the BMI is was not orginally based on some scientific measure. It is unfortunate that some one's value is some arbitrary number. To the comments on health what about observation? It is pretty easy to tell if someone looks healthy -belly fat maybe not so advantageous - a large rear or thighs can make someone resilient to age related changes. Balance is necessary.

    It's hard to be grossly underweight. It is not hard or expensive to be relatively thin. Protein and vegetables, although not cheap, are fairly affordable and if consumed for each meal with a small amount of starches is the ideal way to stay at a healthy weight. Americans have learned to rely on heavily processed foods and snacks as the foundation of their diets which contribute excess calories and no nutrition. It is not more complicated than that.

    • @hiddenmutant
      @hiddenmutant 2 дня назад +1

      Healthy/Whole foods don't have to even be the more expensive option, often it can be cheaper than prepackaged processed foods.
      As a simple example, frozen sweet peas are $2.28 for 2 lbs here (I am going off of Walmart generic brand), $3.72 for 1 dozen eggs, $1.64 for 2 lbs of brown rice, and $10.88 for a 25.5 oz bottle of extra virgin olive oil. Rounded up, that's $19 (all EBT eligible as well). For 1 meal, assume 2/3 cup peas, 2 eggs, 1 cup cooked rice, and 1 tablespoon olive oil (seasonings negligible); not an "exciting" meal, but it gets you 528 calories, 1/3 your daily fat needs, 1/4 your daily carb and fiber needs, and 21g protein (which is somewhere around 1/3-1/2 a person's daily needs).
      6 meals uses all the eggs and peas, but obviously not the rice or olive oil, so 1 meal comes out to about $1.36 per meal with decent macros and a respectable micronutrient profile as well. So nearly 1600 calories at 3 meals/day for $4.08.
      By comparison, for $3.97 you can get "3 servings" of a frozen pre-packaged "vegetable fried rice" meal (InnovAsian brand, I chose it since it's the most similar thing to the "homemade recipe" above that I could quickly find haha), which sounds cheaper, except the servings are way smaller (170g prepackaged vs 407g homemade), and have worse macros with barely any fat, protein, or fiber (which are satiating as well as nourishing), and basically all carbs.
      This "recipe" can become even more micronutrient complex with a wider variety of cheap, nutritious, frozen veggies, or expanding the budget slightly for still-cheap protein options like tofu, canned fish, or chicken. Not to mention it isn't the only budget meal that exists, or including affordable "snacks" like smoothies or yogurt parfaits with frozen fruit, homemade cakes/cookies/brownies, bulk nuts, or corn kernels for popping.

      For some people, me included, it's excruciatingly hard to be even relatively thin. I was obese since childhood, started dieting when I was 9 and dieted on-off my entire life. So, that's almost 30 years of losing and gaining massive amounts of weight-I think I lost and re-gained like 200 kilos total in my entire life (I'm European). Obsessing over food, being unhappy with myself, starving myself, trying every diet under the sun, I also tried the healthy route with a balanced diet many times (still was hungry btw). Not sure if this qualifies as an eating disorder (probably). I'm going to try therapy for sure since that's the one thing I've been tiptoeing around and I suspect I have a rocky road ahead of me with that. So trust me, staying thin is NOT easy for everyone. It's much like saying: just don't be depressed, I can do it, see?

    Yes, I liked this video along with the others, body typing and color. I was in high school in the 70's. I don't rememeber there being too many peers overweight. We ate different. At least our family. We had a small breakfast before school, lunch and my mother fed us as soon as we got off the bus. That was our supper. If we got hungry later, we might have a bowl of popcorn or a banana. We never snacked like kids do now. in saying that, though I was never overweight, I was the short sister and always felt chunky. After being typed as a soft gamine in the past year now I know why. One thing I would like to know for a video idea is: Why someone with the same height, weight can wear much different sizes? I have 2 friends where that has happened, and they can wear smaller clothes than I. I'm very happy with my weight and clothes size, but I find it hard to understand except for the fact that it may come down to bone structure? Thanks for another great video.

    I think the current standard is the best because it consists of creating some muscle with healthy sport and food with a healthy weight for fertility and without surreal long legs nor super thin body. Thanks to tiktok, the standard is more natural in videos instead of photos where they abuse of Photoshop and angles.
    Staying thin is quite simple eating two-three times a day grilled meat, grilled fish or eggs 🍗🐟🥩 with some vegetables 🍅🥦🥬🥕💧with two cheat/carb meals per week🍝🍟🍚🍩🥤🍰
    Protein is very saciating compared to the depressing salads that some models recommend. This, combined with lifting weights 4 times a week creates muscle that consumes more calories and fat also disappears. Protein can also create energy without needing many carbs.
    It is quite simple although it is more difficult in the global south because meat is very expensive for the salaries they receive and they eat a lot of carbs. Also people who have split work day with two shifts have it very difficult for going to the gym frequently.

    I respect your opinion, but disagree. Being thin is in because everybody feels better about themselves when they're a healthy weight. Our clothes fit better and we look better in them. It gives us confidence in how we are displayed to the world. Also, thin people aren't always rich with access to healthy foods and personal chefs. I know plenty of thin people including myself who don't have that kinda money to do those things. Thin isn't just a genetic trait - it requires self control and a great deal of it. Everyone wants to eat whatever they want and how much they want but some choose to control it to the best of their ability.

But it was ultimately high jacked by the obese and the morbid obese as a way to try and force society into telling them they’re “healthy” and “beautiful”. And I say this as a woman who is about 100 pounds over weight after the birth of my babies, and actively working to remove the excess pounds. I don’t need to be skinny, or even thin - I’ve always been curvy. But when I’m a 100 pounds overweight, and still look small in comparison to the “body positivity” people - we have a grift.

    It's nonsense to think thin is a matter of status and money. On the contrary, rich people have more and better tasting food to eat. Also, having 'people cook for you' is actually what makes you fat. People cook for you in restaurants, the more you eat out the fatter you are. What makes you thin is cooking for yourself! Not only it makes you less hungry being immersed in all the food scents while cooking but you also spend energy doing it. And good food is CHEAP. Legumes are cheap, vegetables are cheap. Snacks and convenient food are expensive and unnecessary. If you have money for snacks, it means you have money for good food, you simply choose to eat badly. Dont buy snacks AT ALL, then you'll have plenty of money for lentils, chickpeas, beans and vegetables and fruits. Also, this idea of 'having trainers', or going to gym, also a lot of bs. There are a million free exercise videos online, it's not rocket science, nobody needs a trainer, consistency is what matters, you're not getting ready for the olympics! Just pick something light to start with and be consistent, you dont have to do everything perfect! Being thin is hard now, not because it's expensive or a status thing, but because you need to be mentally and emotionally strong to be thin, not rich.... Yes it takes time, but not money. So just make less money, maybe become a housewife, or have someone not work and keep house instead and cook for the family, then you dont need money at all to be healthy. It's a matter of choice. If your choice is to make the most money you can and buy the most crap you can and fill up your house or have a better car or go on vacations, sure, go ahead and sacrifice your healthy for it, but dont complain when people say thin is healthy and pretty, because it is. There's nothing positive about carrying a huge backpack around all day long, and that's what all that extra weight is. Also, eating more than your body needs is wasteful. You could feed a second person with that food. It certainly costs more to eat more.

      I have thought about this a lot being an immigrant in the US, I always hear that it’s expensive to eat healthy and I agree that food can be pricey but I have delivered way too many groceries and I have realized that it is a matter of priorities for most people.
      The diabolical amount of snacks, sodas, chips, ice cream and processed baby food I have delivered is insane. Cutting off all of that stuff from the grocery list would save so much money.
      If a person is truly on the verge of poverty they could survive and be healthy as well only buying chicken, vegetables, rice and water and that would be a quarter of the price of the regular groceries that I buy for people (I do instacart) and that would be on the extreme side of savings, it wouldn’t even have to be that strict in order to eat healthier, I think too many people here are just addicted to the convenience of buying premade food and eating desserts everyday.
      Planning meals can be difficult, learning how to cook and doing the dishes and all that is what I think keeps people from taking responsibility about their eating habits but it is a necessary step of being an adult.
