    At the last GD rally we went to, the vendor for all the seals GD uses was giving away a new molded rubber "corner" that fits over the bulb seals and seals off the gap where the seals meet and the open end of the top/ bottom seals. They gave me enough to do my complete RV. They fit perfectly and stay in place with supplied 3M adhesive strips. They stated that all new GD RVs would have these. Very nice.

    Excellent info! We had some rain coming in through a bedroom overhead sconce and it was because both left and right edges of the wiper seal had folded over, letting rain in from the sides. I had to manipulate them several times to get them back to form and they've been fine ever since. Thanks!

    We added a slide topper on our 2021 Imagine 22MLE slide. It keeps the rain and leaves/pine needles/debris out when the the slide is out. IMHO your videos are the best out there man, thank you for consistently great content.

    Had this issue with the same slide seal except it was on the back of a bedroom slide. Did the ezact same thing and never saw a drop again. They need to use 1 piece wrap around seals or come up with a better system.

    You may perhaps want to look at installing a slide awning. We camp a bunch in the mountains from spring into the fall hunting seasons. I saw your screen shot of leaves on the slide and you mentioned cleaning the slide roof of those, sticks and such before closing. An awning effectively prevents pine needle, sticks, leaves, bugs and even snow from becoming an issue when closing. The awning simply dumps the roof accumulations as you retract the room. Because it acts as a second roof, I’ve never had a leak issue from the roof of my slide-outs on any of my campers.

    • @RVTIPSANDTRAVELS
      @RVTIPSANDTRAVELS  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks for watching! Personally, I dont like slide toppers. They are a great product for folks who dont want to go up on the roof to clean off leaves though. For every one person who owns one and loves them, theres another who has had problems with theirs... I've read countless posts of them stretching and sagging over time, getting stuck, breaking, and there are situations where debris does actually get underneath them (in windy environments). For me, its more added weight, something else that can break, and not needed since I go on the roof to clean everything off before moving slides anyway. It forces me to inspect the roof a lot, and is a part of my tear down checklist. End of the day a roof topper should not be the line of defense against water getting in. That is the seals job. Its just personal preference I guess, these would provide no benefit to me, and in fact would probably be a hassle to have to constantly remove when inspecting and coating slide seals, which I believe is more important than covering them. Hope that makes sense.

      @randy5766 Месяц назад

      @@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS You know, that does make sense. I've never thought of it that way. I suppose it depends on your camping environment, like a desert or heavily wooded areas. Thank you for your response. Love your channel by the way. Great tips and also reminders since I'm getting older. Happy camping.

      pros and cons to everything... I think they are good for a lot of folks, but for me being on the roof all the time, they would just be in the way. safe travels my friend.

    thanks for the videos! I see you already have eternabond on the seal between the flashing running the length of the slide and the slide roof - me too! another visual check on the slideout is on the ends where the roof material comes over the side and transitions to the fiberglass siding. Over time, the putty tape behind that screwed in transition bar can dry out and water will find it's way along the screws and into the siding. Good to keep a bead of sealant along the top of that transition bar. over time you may need to remove the bar and replace the putty tape, especially as the unit gets up to 10+ years.

      @shawnmcgee7475 Месяц назад +1

      I don’t think that’s eternabond. It’s too thin. I don’t recall him doing the slide in his video.

      that isnt eternabond... its the factory tape, might be butyl tape, not sure i havent really looked at it much other than checking to see if its failing.

    @CamcoManufacturing - Simply put: As a newbie RVer, I've purchased the Rhino hose, the water filter, and a number of your other products due to RV Tips & Travels recommendations -- trusting Ross and knowing he won't endorse something he doesn't believe in. Next up will be the Camco door handle. (Other purchases made due to Ross' recommendations: the 50A Hughes EMS, Eternabond roof tape, the TireMinder TPMS, the X-chocks, the Brooklyn Mattress (hasn't arrived yet), SnapPad feet, 303 Aerospace protectant, and all the tools/toys to make life on the road a little better). I can't thank you enough for these videos. I'm still learning the ins and outs being a new rv owner living in it full time. My biggest fear is any type of leak so I keep a close eye on everything when it rains. I probably inspect my roof way too much lol. Your videos make me feel like it won't be the end of the world when something does go wrong and I'll be able to trouble shoot and fix whatever problem arises. I'm considering slide out toppers and I noticed you didn't have one on that slide is there any particular reason why. Should I bother with buying and installing them on my rig? Just wondering about your thoughts on toppers. Btw my dimmer switch with the switch plate looks and operates like it was done at the factory! Thanks again!

      Thanks for watching! Personally, I dont like them. It forces me to inspect the roof a lot.

      @@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Makes perfect sense, like yourself I do get up on my roof often to inspect and clean. I didn't even think about how it would actually be a hindrance when inspecting, cleaning and applying the 303 Protectant on the seals. As always, your videos are the best in the RV industry. When we purchased our Winnebago Micro Minnie in 2022, the dealer strongly pushed their install of a slide topper. im not a fan of slide toppers, but not for any other reason than they would be unnecessary for me. Im on the roof all the time so wiping leaves off is not big deal. one more thing to break, and they get in the way when coating the slide seals, so i just choose to not get them. they are helpful for a lot of other people though.

    I was having a problem with the slide from almost the same issue. The slide would stop moving and get hung. I either ran the motor longer or sometimes gave it a push to get it to move. Sometimes, it would make a large pop like a big door spring coming loose. Turns out the same seal was trying to move to the inside but never got there. It just hung until the motor overcame it. Same seal. 2021 2400BH.

    We just purchased a used 2021 trailer 3 weeks ago. The first day that we brought it home it was raining. My wife and son were hanging out inside the trailer at home. We than had a crazy storm cell that was hailing and pouring really bad. She called me on the phone because the slide was leaking. The water was coming over the roof and behind the top of the bulb seal. I inspected it the next day and sure enough there are 2 areas where there are cracks behind the top of the seal which was resulting in water leaking in the front of the slide. At first i was pissed but then realized how fortunate that we were to have a crazy storm like that initially while we werent out somewhere far from home. The bulb probably failed due to failure of lubrication or maintenance as the sun will break down any of the exterior rubber seals if not maintained. I am planning on doing a full replacement of all of the buld seals and wipers so that i fell confident that we will not have an issue in the near future. I appreciate your videos as they are informative and to the point.
