so glad you made this. I was quite proficient on my Tenori On Orange but haven't used in many years. I recently took it out and realized how much I had forgotten. But I guess it's like riding a bike and this video was very helpful at sparking my memory~!
Thank you Rebecca, A really nice and accessible video about the Tenori. (I like your phrase on how to switch the Tenori On, as opposed to Off. I'm always inclined to switch on the Tenori-On, or to switch the Tenori-On On)
Cool, Rebecca. :) I've also learned that the Solo mode can serve more of an improv purpose, where you press buttons to play melody as usual, but the notes are not repeated in the following rounds of the pattern. And something about SD cards needing to be formatted... Anyway, thanks!
Does anyone know if the backside LEDs of the silver Tenori-on can be turned off to extend battery power? Orangle does not gave backside LEDs so non-issue there. Also, anyone gappen to know what is the battery life on a set of rechargeable C-Cells (Amazon branding)?
Hi Valerie, At least to me it is enjoyable while making music and also for composing. The Tenori-On is not very well known for because of its price (but there is an official iOS alternative available) and for its on-board sounds. You can load 48 use samples, but each to a maximum individual length of 0.99 seconds. You can do great things with the on-board sounds, but only at the investment of substantial time (but doesn't that apply to any musical instrument) I'd advice you to search youtube for some more videos (there are many out there, ranging from really trash to awesome) and wish you happy searching there.
@@GearGuy So sad to hear this, but i guess it was to be expected. Yamaha prefers not to be associated with the Tenori-on anymore. Initially, by design, it looked very promising (touch sensitivity, flexible sound fonts instead of static samples). In the end, it is more a curiosity with some interesting features than a professional instrument. Also, currently there are many more alternatives with better and extended features available.
@@agerven Yeah, my favorite is the Synthstrom Deluge, small screen and no velocity sensitive keys but feature set is amazing; unlimited tracks of unlimited length, wavetable, fm synth, builtin speaker and mic, unlimited sampling, MPE support, and really actively updated firmware… only wish it had the gimmicky bouncing notes of the Tenori-on… but hey maybe someday. Oh yeah, Deluge is totally battery and portable too. If you prefer a nice screen but not portability, the AKAI Force is amazing… pretty much Ableton in a box and then some. Cheers!
That is by far the best, most informative tenori demo I have seen. Thank you!
excellent and comprehensive. Thank you.

@@agerven Just an FYI: Unfortunately the Tenori-on app was pulled by Yamaha a couple of years ago.
