What a coincidence. My sister just sent me a photo of her kingianum, which she said was flowering for the first time. She lives in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (gets quite cold in winter hot summers) and has a large variety of orchids in a shade house and has great success with them, so I was surprised because I thought kingianum was one of the easier ones. I am sharing this with her. I wonder if that's why this came up on my feed!?
Terrific to see such an informative video about Australian dendrobiums so thanks very much Matthew! I have recently bought several lovely Australian native hybrids from Kingfisher Orchids (near Brisbane). It will be rewarding when they flower.
Another informative video, thank you. I used to grow a few of these indoors all year in southern UK. T last year I put them outside from spring to early winter subject to sun and rain (of which there is a LOT this summer). I brought them in when night temps fell below 5 degrees. The flowering was much improved! Tough plants 👍
Loved the video! I’m in Brisbane & have several Australian Dendrobiums. I have two that are small & in spike. Their flowers smell like sweet honey. I’ve also been given rescue pieces which look like large kingianums or maybe delicatums. It will be exciting to see the blooms eventually & try to identify them. Oh! the anticipation!
Hi Mathew😌🙌🇯🇵My dendrobiums are under 80% shadecloth on my balcony. We have temperatures up to 38℃ and very humid. I did leave kingianum out all winter with temperatures at night at -5/-8℃ Day temperature 5/10℃ and dry-sunny. I also have dendrobium speciosum x gracilicaule. That I didn't try outside in winter yet😬The kingianum did survive and got just a bit of wilting on some canes and didn't flower last year. It's growing well now with new canes. dendrobium nobiles can be left outside too with no problems. I've even seen them sitting in pots right next to snow that had fallen, and that nobile flowered well this year😄They can stand cold with plenty of daily sunshine and low humidity in winter which is about 30/40% I love your dendrobium hybrids especially that dendrobium jesmond sparkler😌💞
Yay, thank you for sharing the knowledge. i just purchased an oncidium twinke - Joel x lemon jelly. In full bloom and smells heavenly. It is currently on my kitchen windowsill which is covered with a flyscreen. Looking at your previous vids now for better care.
Hi Matthew - I've just discovered your videos and love them. I have just bought a Dendrobium Nobile Red Emperor Prince (Marlborough Nursery) from Bunnings. Can you give me some advice on how to re-pot it please?
Here's my take on re-potting: ruclips.net/video/_vvzTXe5-qE/видео.html depends on your conditions and how you're groing it ultimately./ Medium bark is always a good place to begin though.
I think the only reason kingianum isn't found in Melbourne is because of geographical isolation, versus the climate being unfavorable. I've seen it growing in gardens in north central Florida which suffers a freeze at least once a year every year and the plants are mostly unbothered by a short freeze or two.
Thank you. Just put mine outside for a bit of Fall cooler, drier weather.
Thanks for watching!
Hearing that speciosum doesn’t flower every year makes me feel a lot better! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks for watching!
These are lovely. I have a few that I hope bloom for me this winter up here in NY. Thanks for sharing!
Good luck with yours!
Yay! I'm so happy to see you got this uploaded properly, been so keen to watch it. 😊

Can Australian Dendrobium be found in the USA besides the kingianum and speciosum?
I presume so - but I’m in Australia so perhaps an American grower can answer you?

Most of them are remarkably cold tolerant! Thanks for watching!
Could please recommend Australia dens with nice fragrance? Thank you very much!
