One of our local churches has a beautiful stained glass window, I always wondered what angel as depicted there, it looks much as Mirusia here. I found it was a young lady who died at just twenty in March 17, 1896, buried in her wedding dress, not to be worn in this life, the window was a gift from her heartbroken fiancée.
The vision of that window caught my eye even as a young boy and it is even more beautiful to me now.
The colors are as bright and vibrant as the day completed, over one hundred years of sunshine streaming through. It faces east to greet the glorious sunrise.The area hit by a violent earthquake in 1935 many buildings lost yet no damage to that magnificent window, it is in it’s second church which is a beautiful old stone construction.
Where the young lady is laid to rest is the most beautiful marble life size statue of a young lady I have ever seen, what marvelous stonecutter was able to make this, it is the hand of God,,
it is modeled after her, Katherine Sinclair Sligh.
Her spirit shines through the years here in the beautiful Mirusia. The stained glass window and her are remarkably similar hair style, color, skin, eye color.
