I was 9 at the time, and I couldn't understand why If black people were mad at white people, would they destroy their own place!? No white people shopped there. Looking back at that time, I will always believe that black folk didn’t burn Rainbow Market down. Someone from outside our little community did that in order to make it seem like they (black folk) did. And I believe that it was someone outside of this peaceful protesting group who launched a brick that nearly concust a police officer.

Where is our cadre of attorneys in this generation? We continue to be marginalized for the most absurd reasons. Far too often, FBAs are caught in a cycle of explaining outrageous slights, rather than finding and supporting the next Thurgood Marshall or Johnny Cochran to champion and win these pivotal causes. We are repeatedly forced to revisit painful narratives, like the gator bait atrocities, without seeing substantial change. Mere explanations and superficial outrage are insufficient.
One wonders whether public protest, the long cornerstone of free speech, may be an outdated strategy due to liability tags being placed on them, plus various other reasons. Do activists and organizers have to find new innovative, effective ways to succeed with their cause....?
Ive never been able to have meaningful dialogue with my Republican family as the lone democrat. They refuse to talk politics and will vote for anyone with an R after their name. As an experienced protestor we focused on non violence and civil disobedience but one outlier or false flag operator can muck up the whole meaning and narrative. This police response is overkill. And can empower the dirty ones trying to attack you.
In school they told me the right to free assembly was an important part of our constitution. And then I read about various law enforcement agencies infiltrating peaceful protest groups. I know it isn't nearly as important as the right to bear assault weapons or the right to free speech (can you hear me now?) but it is almost never talked about or defended in our general discourse.
