DIY Macrame Curtain

  • I am no macrame expert but I’m going to show you my attempt at a DIY macrame curtain for my window. I say attempt because I wish I was an expert at these since I feel like mine looks a little …well, not as good as I wanted it to. The cool thing about this is you can use it as a macrame wall hanging, a room divider and a backdrop for a photo booth. Thank you for all your continuous support, on the next video I will be announcing a giveaway! I am gathering all the materials still and don’t want to show you guys until it’s perfect! Happy Wednesday you beautiful babes xx.
The tutorial I used but mine def didn’t come out like that - www.abeautifulmess.com/2014/02...
Timestamp in other macrame video where I slow down for you 2:50!
As always I try my hardest to keep this as easy and simple for the beginner DIY'er as possible.
    W H A T Y O U ‘ L L N E E D . . .
-Macrame cord - I legit used 200 yards (four spools of cord from Michael’s) for a 52 inches wide x 52 inches high window so PLEASE buy more than you need and return it when you don’t use it. WAY easier than five million trips to the craft store like I did
-Wooden dowel or pipe from hardware store the width of your window
    -Two nails
    -Two hooks
    -Hammer
    -Scissors
    -Rope
    N O T E S
My dowel was 60" long so I had some space to add stuff on the ends.
I measured out 30 individual macrame strange that were roughly 120 inches long then folded them in half and grouped them by twos to create 15 "groups" on the dowel to work with.
You can get creative and add beads, metallic tape, different colored string or you can dye the whole thing! I left mine white because when I remove those pumpkins at the end of November - I am OVERLOADING it with greenery and that will be my main pop of color.
I sell all my DIY's that are collecting dust since I hate wasting! I post them randomly when I have some that I'm not using or aren't a part of the subscriber DIY series. etsy.me/2hmtOao

Hi. I love that you do DIY Tutorials. I learned to macrame when I was a teen in the 70s, but over the years, having kids, raising them, & watching them get married & have kids of their own, crocheting took over. Lol. I had completely forgotten how to macrame. Your curtain is lovely. Thank you.

I'm obsessed! They really make the space. They were gifted to my dude years back and I recycled them into my space. I never caught the name of the artist though.

Rachel Metz, macrame used to be part of our home economic classes in Puerto Rico (high school 1976) along with cooking and other really cool stuff...very therapeutic indeed....I appreciate that you took the time to do this as it reminded me of the stitching pattern I thought I had forgotten. You are Awesome!

I LOVE this project, and am already thinking about where to put one in my place 👍 I hit the subscribe button 3 videos ago (I'm doing the equivalent of a Netflix binge on your channel right now), because it's so refreshing to find a female diy-ster who
    1) creates stuff I want to create
    2) plays GOOD music in the background (I'm sooooo sick of the dorky toddler piano music in the background of so many diy vids 😩)
    3) has a normal speaking voice. I cannot even count the immediate skips I do on screechy-valley-girl vids. A billion thank you's for having a normal voice
    4) embracing the f-word (did you ever know that you're my hero?)
Anyway...thanks for keeping it real! I'm going back to my binge-watching now 😀

Oh my gosh! You totally just made my week with this comment. 1 - thank you 2 - I try my hardest 3 - I think my voice is so annoying haha so thank you for that 4 - I let one slip every now and again but on a daily basis I have a trucker mouth. Thank you SO much for the love xx. Great way to start my day!

Hello, I just love your tutorial. I want to make a screen for the end of my verandah. The height from the ceiling to the floor being 2m50 and the width of the terrasse around 4mt. Please let me know (1) how many rope pieces do I need and (2) how long the cords must be if I what to do the pattern all the way down to the floor ? Thank you for your reply.

3 mm but honestly I would go to your local hardware store and get thicker rope! It'll be a better statement piece versus dainty!
