@@your_fat_self Divine Treasures. I ditched it before I could finish chapter one because it took me almost a year to get to where I was. It’s on Tapas and Manga Plus
I've noticed a lot of series book covers get more complicated the further into the story they are with more and more busy covers featuring way too many characters. This somewhat makes sense as volume 37 is being sold to a different audience to volume 1 and nostalgia does play a factor the further you get in. A series that really embodies this is Twin Star Exorcists, although the covers were always fairly busy, and it is thematically appropriate with the story's focus on family. I still personally prefer series that have a sleek and consistent look throughout the series run, but considering how long some artists are creating it makes sense they'd get new ideas across the series. D Grey Man even talks about how the cover arts evolve within the volumes which is cool. Great video, I remember the old version so I wanted to discuss something slightly different to add new value.
Community Post: (Reupload) I apologize for the inconvenience! I received a handful of comments expressing how the Three Minute Special Announcement in the middle of this video was distracting Usually I wouldn't let one comment bother me, but a few of you said the same thing. So, I decided to redit this video and shorten it down so it is ALL CONTENT I hope this change makes the video easier to watch and more accessible A BRAND NEW video will be released in the next few days! -Monitor
Thank you for making this video! This is gonna help me a lot with making book covers for my future manga. I have already made few drawings of possible ideas for my book covers. I have a problem with original idea for context for my book covers. Also for some book covers I am planning to use references to some other ones like from manga Record of Ragnarok. I love that character aura its book covers give. All in all my type of book cover is story related since i feel like it's important to show the readers what kind of story they should expect.
Hey man, love your content and you've helped me a lot so far, however, recently I was stuck at writing personalities and had to spend 3-4 hours researching how to do it. I think it would be beneficial if you went through the topic of writing the personalities of the main and side characters and how to do it. As always keep up the excellent work and thank you for helping out, I am looking forward to the front page of webtoon as soon as I am done
I think I have a cool idea for my first cover but I struggle a lot with figuring out the title logo, I know so little about it... btw I knew that this channel will give me lots of useful information, it's honestly the only source of technical details of a certain topic I can find on RUclips. Other channels talk about covers so vaguely... Thanks for another helpful video!
Omg! I just saw the end thank you! I was happy to support :) I like to spread my Patreon support around every few months, I’m sure I’ll be back to yours soon, monitor!
Even tho it's such a small change, it was still a good vid regardless. I didn't even realise it was an issue for some or that you'd even address it so props to you I guess😅 Look forward to the next vid coming out👍
Thank you for taking the time to stop by again! I personally didn't think it was a huge deal because there were timestamps to skip ahead to. But some commenters said they didn't like having to skim, some said they clicked off because "there were too many ads and random stuff," and "it should've been in a separate video, we don't care" It was kind of a bummer because I loved the idea of shouting out some of the people who support me and took the time to draw fanart of my character. I guess for some people it made the video hard to watch though In the future I'll probably just make a separate video for stuff like that
@@MonitorComics Yh that does suck a bit. But even then, maybe even adding it in the end as opposed to in the middle would be easier? At the end, usually viewer attention lowers so this way they can choose to stay for that segment or not whilst keeping a large view time overall of your main topic. Never occurred to me (since I never read it prior) but drawing fanart of Mateo seems like a neat idea. Aight Imma try it! (I'll try not to butcher him but my drawing sucks😂. So apologies in advance)
@@TheHydroHawk Yeah that was another suggestion people made on the original video. I thought it'd just be easier to make the video 3-4 minutes shorter so everyone can get in and get out. I'd hate to drag things out when I don't need to That's why a lot of my very first youtube videos were like 5 minutes long LOL. Nothing but quick content And YEAH! I loved all of the fanart people made. It was for my DTIYS art contest I hosted on my birthday. I'm currently working on rebooting the first chapter, so I'll most likely announce another contest when that releases!
Im very late but, im making a manga called Taiyō witch means suns my cover is bad and this helped so good on improving im subbed and i hope i learn more later love ur vids and GOD BLESS U
I'd also like to add how sometimes the framing of a cover could reflect the character's current situation or role in the story For example, two characters who are opposites would be drawn in two different sides of two covers, the first one on the left of the first cover, then adding symmetry using backgrounds, and the second on the right of the second cover, treated the same way, and then if theres a third character that balances them both, the backgrounds would kinda amplify the symmetry, with the character being dead centre.
Yes! The explanation for why is in a comment up above and on my Community Posts tab In short, I received a handful of complaints that the Three Minute Special Announcement in the middle of the video was "distracting," made the video "unwatchable," etc If it was just one comment I wouldn't care, but a handful of people said it, so I decided it might be better to just fix the issue. Removing that announcement shortened the video by about 4 minutes, so now it is ALL Content! Hopefully it makes it easier for new viewers to watch all the way through!
I have been meaning to ask this question for a long long time ... The thing is ...take webtoon for instance am I allowed to remake an already made cartoon..in comic form
I would like to create a pokemon digital doujinshi, but I am in doubt, which paper is better for digital doujinshi ? B4 or A4 and the cut lines (bleeding etc) I spent a lot of time researching and found various types of cuts.
That's awesome to hear! I think the most common paper sizes for Manga Doujinshi is A5 or B5. If you plan to make DIGITAL doujinshi, meaning you aren't concerned about having it printed, bleeding margins shouldn't matter Hope that helps!
Sorry by asking again. Found this example of cut-lines ruclips.net/video/QcgupaEXGQQ/видео.html (Minute 3:16) And also found like this ruclips.net/video/pvzsMhByjRE/видео.html (Minute 0:26).
It has its perks! As someone who majored in graphic design in University, I can say that it has helped me a lot with understanding composition, how to organize text, how to make things "marketable," how to build a strong brand etc I'd say all of those skills contributed to me understanding how to make manga better and helped me grow my RUclips channel in only 3 years HOWEVER, as someone who went to university and got a degree in it, I believe you can learn everything you need to know about it for FREE on RUclips, Google, Skillshare etc
It isn't "randomly" doing that, it's a keyboard command called Flip Canvas Horizontally. When you are drawing it is VERY easy to draw something lopsided, proportioned wrong etc. The most obvious mistakes you can notice are things like "the other eye" being off, maybe the chin is angled off in one direction, maybe one side of the hair is more full than the other, etc A lot of digital artists get into the habit of constantly flipping and mirroring their art to "check" their work. You know your drawing is drawn correctly when you mirror it and it still looks good!
I put an explanation in a comment above and on my Community Post tab! In short, there were a handful of people that said the video was unwatchable because of the 3-4 minute special announcement put in the middle of the video A few people said that they clicked off the video because it wasn't focused, they didn't feel like skimming, and "it should've been in another video." If it were just one guy I wouldn't care, but there were more than a few people complaining or criticizing the video I figured it'd be easier to just reupload it. Hopefully not it's an easy straightforward watch and it can help more people
Pretty much! Sometimes I've seen some manga show a "scene" like the character doing a mundane thing, or wearing a specific outfit, etc. Other times it's a simple portrait or group shot. I think with chapter covers there's a lot more room to be experimental Your front cover is a big marketing piece. so there's a lot more pressure to "get that right" verses a chapter cover
@@MonitorComics so I left another comment but didn’t get a reply, no worries! I just wanted to know about self publishing as I came across your manga plus video. I wanted to know if not partnered or backed by a specific platform, is it better to post my manga on as many platforms as possible? Or to keep it limited. Or to keep it to one. Thanks for any advice/reply :)
@@Bleezylmfao Thank you for responding here! Sometimes I don't get notifications for every comment so I have to go out of my way to look for them or else I'll miss them So I apologize about that! The short answer is YES, it is always better to try and attract as many readers as you can, ESPECIALLY if you are independent! If I weren't signed with a company right now I would probably promote my stuff on Tapas, Webtoons, Mangaplus Creators, etc The only problem with that is you split your audience. So say for example your goal is to one day become a Webtoon original, you need a certain number of views and comments to qualify So in that case it'd be better to post ONLY on Webtoons so you can direct everyone there. Hope that helps!

Yeah there's so many different types of paper and guidelines it can get confusing. If youre just doing digital, just work on whichever size feels right to you Most people just go for the standard Manga tankobon size or western comic book size That Whytmanga video is also a few years old. In 2019 I believe he was drawing on taller paper because Saturday Tank books were much larger than standard manga volumes Hope that helps! When you're doing digital, print lines don't really matter
