Yes, I know. I spent $175 on last minute registration for the Seattle Rock'n'Roll Half Marathon and all I have is a T-Shirt. I regret it. But having been injured for most of the year and having just moved to Seattle, I really wanted to race! Thank you to all the incredible volunteers who make these types of events what they are.
who fucking does that? to save 2 seconds and look like a total schmuck..it's disrespectful to the race and to other racers. He should be called out, do we have his bib number?
Too bad Brian didn't sneak up at the end to give a 👍 at the end. It is nice to see Ethan being the center of a race video again! Hopefully there will be more to come in the near future.
Thanks, Ethan! This video is something that so many runners regardless of the distance can relate to. I loved going along for the ride (I'm also injured, undertrained and over-IPA'd). Good luck with your recovery!
Thanks for giving some love to road racers! Not all of us have the opportunity to run in the mountains, so it's nice to hear some appreciation for races on asphalt. Great video as always, Ethan! (And thanks for thanking the volunteers - that's always classy. Last week I volunteered for the Peachtree Road Race, and saw Bernard Lagat, immediately after winning the master's division and coming in fifth overall, run down the road high-fiving the water and banana volunteers. Extremely classy move.)
Ethan, I can't tell you how much this VLOG and your honest and realistic story here has inspired me. I'm not the elite athlete you and Kim are and not nearly your youthful age but much like you here, I've let a hectic schedule and life curtail my training and have been lax on my healthful eating regime as well. It is motivating to see that folks at your level struggle from time to time and then make the necessary adjustments to change and get back on track. I totally refocused my efforts beginning today Sir and to you, I owe the gratitude.
Don't regret things that make you smile...and I saw you smile! ;) So great to see you in a race video. Loved the video, and enjoy all your videos, you are such an inspiration to me. A small request...please leave the text on just a second or 2 longer. Had a hard time reading it before it was gone again. Maybe it's just me...I'm old.
I've watched your videos here and there but just recently subscribed! Congrats on your move to Seattle welcome to the northwest! Shoutout from Vancouver (in Washington)
WOW you did this race!?!?! I knew you were in Seattle but didn't think you would do a road race. It would have been awesome to meet ya. I did the race too and gopro'ed it! I gave up on my gimbal and just raced with a monopod though. Ya should have done the marathon and got more bang for your buck! Congrats! Fun fun Video!
Woo! I just get excited seeing people run. Plus half marathons are my speed. Gettin excited for my next one. Im with you on skipping pizza and gunning for sub 1:30 (Except for me maybe sub 2:30...) Congrats, you guys made it thru the move! The rest (unpacking) is downhill from here (from the person who has moved at least 20 times!) Seattle's beautiful.
I guess New York Marathon is a bargain compare to that race, aside from a free T-Shirt you get a Silver Cape at the finish line, but good job Ginger, what a nice surprise, love the Video !
great work GR! I love your attitude and willingness to put yourself out there and feel the burn! Man that guy at the end... lets just call him what he is... a cheat. I wonder how many other corners he cut. I hope you finished in front of him. Hate cheats.
Well this was fun to watch! I’m always impressed by runners who can film themselves while racing. Have you been able to find some more enjoyable road running routes in Seattle?
We ran that race! It was our first half marathon and we are from Houston. Note to self: Don't run a very hilly location for your first half marathon when you are from a place with no hills! The point for my husband and I was just to finish, and finish we did!! 💪👟
I feel like I just ran that again. LOL. I actually filled out a survey and got a code that made next year's race $55 or $60 for the half...if I sign up super early. Not sure if I want to do it again. This one was my first RnR. It was alright. Disappointed that the shirt was black. I did appreciate the Link running earlier for the event though. Saved me a parking nightmare.
Haha great video as always, loved how you worked the value out... that seems quite a steep price for a race... in the uk top end half marathons are around £50 which would be about $90ish I guess?! $175 seems a lot!!
I have no idea on run prices but here in Canada if you register early for our big half marathon it's $65 (about $50 American)... last minute is $99 (about $75 American).
I ran that marathon with my best friend in 2010. I was massively disappointed by the course. Loved section around the lake but then all the highway running really bemused us. In one of most beautiful cities in world and this was the best they could do? Had a great time in city to make up for it but overall it turned me off RnR races for good.
That's exactly how I felt. I ran the inaugural RnR Seattle marathon back in 08 (or 09, I forget) and was blown away with how little of the beautiful parts of the city they showcase. It was just a ton of freeway out n backs. Totally lame. This course isn't an improvement by much.
jesse murray I just ran my first marathon at rnr DC and I will , also, never run a rnr marathon again. the back half of the course was horrendous (first half was decent). all of the sites we could see in DC and they had us on out and backs on highways and bad neighborhood's. 👎
The full marathon course is even worse. At mile 20 or so you pop up on an out and back on the upper deck of 99. It looked terrible as I was running by it down on the waterfront.
Running RNR Chicago tomorrow and there is a stretch of the course that will be similar (through no-where's land) but no highways. But--serious Q--how much of that is the city forcing race planners to use certain areas? In Chicago we hit this same stretch past Roosevelt in Chicago for the Hot Chocolate and SF 10 miler.
My personal worst was a $100 for a 3 loop 50k the day before the run. Tweaked my knee on the first lap and dropped down to the 10 mile event for $10/mile. Note to self, no RnR!
Alright bro love the vids, love the banter and love the post beer antics. But...... I think I'll have to look into postage costs for a beer glass for you, from Australia. haha. Keep up the good work and I'll keep stealing motivation from your posts.
Sub 1:30, it took me 4 training cycles and attempts to go sub 1:30. But once I got the sub 1:30 I made my BQ on the first attempt. (note I am over 40 so my BQ isn't as hard as if I was 30)
Hey Ethan, wonderful movies and fantastic accomplishments in all of these Ultras! Wondering if you could share the GoPro setup you prefer to use while doing your insanely long trail runs? Thanks!
Ethan. Ethan! EEETTTHHHAAAAANNNN! All the hard work you put into your running, your Rock'n'Rollin', and your excellent videos. And then you go and drink a Pliny straight from the bottle. Ethan! If you're ever in Philly come for a run with me in the Wissahickon. I have a lovely selection of fine beer glassware that is looking to briefly host a Pliny afterward.
I just ordered the kinvara 7. I've had the 4,5 & 6. This will be my first everun shoe. Thanks for all you do! Hope the rest of 2017 is injury free for you.
TheGingerRunner Never could get into that shoe... You'll have to start reviewing La Sportiva again soon. They're coming out with 3 new shoes next year!
Bummer. Hope you are enjoying Seattle. One last thing, I might try the LA marathon next year, do you know how it compares to the San Francisco marathon?
Susea Albee it's about Rock n Roll inflatables and Elvis impersonators...not actual rock n roll. I can see why that may confuse some. They're gonna change the name to 'spirit' of rock and roll half and full going forward. It will be jam packed full of air guitarists and cool banners
3:13 don't be that guy, purely due to him form...wait, what?!, he cut some of the course?!?! (sorry if you are a viewer, guy, just as you should not cut the course, you should also not induce carpal tunnel)
I guess that's true seeing as 'value' would be zero ;). How I considered it was that since I had already paid 100%, a mile's value would be $13.36, so 2 mile's value would be $26.72 - this all considering that I already paid for the whole thing rather than per mile in real time. Make sense?
I think you got it in the first part, but I see what you did for the video. I work in finance so I always see value v. cost. The monetary value would much less than the cost in this case but on the other hand it has other value to you since it was the first race back in the saddle and a PR so all is not lost :)
Yes, I know. I spent $175 on last minute registration for the Seattle Rock'n'Roll Half Marathon and all I have is a T-Shirt. I regret it. congratz on the world record marathon TIME. (didn't say anything about the actual race, just the time). congratz 4 real too
".....all I have is a T-Shirt. " And a fist bump from Elvis AND Brian Morrison , who can put a price on that ?
And a medal! (Kind of a sucker for the medals now...)
What about the medal ?
"This guy, am I right?" Yes, you are right.
Would trap him right at mile 13. No, I wouldn't; but I might feel like it after running 13 miles, just to see him shortcutting.
I'm a very slow runner, but still that was uncool!!
who fucking does that? to save 2 seconds and look like a total schmuck..it's disrespectful to the race and to other racers. He should be called out, do we have his bib number?
I was bummed to see such blatent corner cutting for a measly few second advantage. Who knows how many corners he had cut before that. Bummer :(
Something tells me that is a personality trait. Ha!
YES! great wear blue mile!
Thanks Ethan for the shout
Thanks for giving some love to road racers! Not all of us have the opportunity to run in the mountains, so it's nice to hear some appreciation for races on asphalt. Great video as always, Ethan! Michael Reid I run a few road races a year usually (see some of my earlier marathon vids). Love em and plan to always ring a couple out :)
Great video. Love the laid back nature of it all and the super smooth footage.
This is awesome!! Watching your videos inspire me to start running!! Keep up the great work Ethan!!

Nice!! it's all a journey, and we're always at some stage of it :)
Thanks for a great running video. It has been so long. Awesome.
Totally diggin' the music on this one! 😄
Pro tip: If you run slower, you still pay the same price but you get more minutes per $. 🕵️
Oh man! You got Pliny at the end! Worth it!
I hope you get your injury under control. I too am dealing with a nagging, chronic injury. I feel you.
I'm glad to see you out racing and partying, GR! #runningunderaninflatabletaint #priceless
Made my day. Watched after a 8 mile trail run. Sounds like me" Plump, under trained, and generally sorry.
Love it!!
Congrats on the run and getting your first race of the year in. I am hitting up the Vegas RnR this November, hope I PR as well.
All good GR, congrats! Had a laugh at the vest/pack disclaimer and mileage $$ values
great Video the ginger runner is back!!... yaaayyyyy!!!...🏃🏃🏃x
Such an awesome race, that was my first race. My husband and myself ran the half as well!
Your dad at the end . . . 'Shit is that MY beer'
Finally a race video !!! Thank you
Great fun video. Enjoyed it lots 👍🏻
You always have a way of making things look fun even though we know how bad you were probably hurtin'! Good job!!! :D
I love your videos, Ethan! Keep up the great work. The editing in this video was excellent, and fantastic choice of music!
Nice time.....very fun muzak....Good job!
Get Healthy! I'm ready to see some more of your races. I started watching you last year and I'm all caught up. lol.
that is super awesome that you live in Seattle now. all I really want to do now is get a run with you.
Awesome Running My Friend 😎💪🏾✌🏾
Seattle!!! Welcome to my town.
Don't regret things that make you smile...and I saw you smile! ;) So great to see you in a race video. Loved the video, and enjoy all your videos, you are such an inspiration to me. Hilarious! Love the tongue in cheek...
Ginger is back!!!! Running under the inflatable taint had to be the highlight!
what a value!
Calves exploded. Bonked. Having a blast. Let's finish.
I almost dropped my phone laughing at the inflatable comment!
Goku Runner with the race dont you get a shirt and a medal ?

Pretty cool my PR is 1:42:42. Congrats on a great run!
"inflatable taint" hahaha
Lol those $ per mile were savage. That price is exploitative. Nice job!
I guess New York Marathon is a bargain compare to that race, aside from a free T-Shirt you get a Silver Cape at the finish line, but good job Ginger, what a nice surprise, love the Video !
Love the music!
great work GR! I love your attitude and willingness to put yourself out there and feel the burn!

I'm from Houston too... well kinda.. I'm from Beaumont! Those hills were no joke for us flatlanders! Congrats!
Fun! Loved the music, too.

Love the Cheesy Music
Mine same weekend cost 30 bucks, got me two tech shirts, a medal, a gel, some Nuun and a nice bag:)
1:42 and you say your out of shape....Awesome when I'm in shape I run a 1:45 😭👣👣👣oh well I need to keep training..👣👣👣👣👣👍🏽
Who knew registering one day before the event would be so expensive? The full marathon in November is only $145.00!
I ran that marathon with my best friend in 2010. I was massively disappointed by the course. Loved section around the lake but then all the highway running really bemused us. In one of most beautiful cities in world and this was the best they could do? Had a great time in city to make up for it but overall it turned me off RnR races for good.

I hope you're enjoying life in Seattle! See you at this year's R&R marathon?
Loved this video! Lol
I stopped watching Paranormal Activity to watch this. 😀😀😀 This was much better!! Love the math along the way.
hahaha, did you see the ghost in this video? Keep looking! (there's no ghost)
Alright bro love the vids, love the banter and love the post beer antics. But...... I think I'll have to look into postage costs for a beer glass for you, from Australia. haha. Keep up the good work and I'll keep stealing motivation from your posts.
I have many pint glasses :) Some beer just needs to be enjoyed as quickly as possible!
Nice work! I ran the full, and was also in corral one. Are you planning on running any of the local trail races?
of course :)
Sub 1:30, it took me 4 training cycles and attempts to go sub 1:30. But once I got the sub 1:30 I made my BQ on the first attempt. (note I am over 40 so my BQ isn't as hard as if I was 30)
I saw someone wearing a hydration vest in my 5k this past weekend, so you're not so bad.
Nice job Ginger!! How do u like the Kinvara 8's? Looked like you wore them for the race. Will you be doing a review of them?
Hey Ethan, wonderful movies and fantastic accomplishments in all of these Ultras! Wondering if you could share the GoPro setup you prefer to use while doing your insanely long trail runs? Thanks!
Congrats @gingerrunner on the PR hope to get my chubby self to sub 1:40 soon.
Cost per mile! LMAO
$175? Should have gave them the ginger runner promo code! Congrats on the finish!
Congrats man!! What was your injury??
Loved the video and the fun nature of it :-)
Fun video !
Something diff about ur videos off late .. can't seem to point what exactly .. looks quite vibrant
Great video, and great to see Ethan featuring again.
Minor point - wouldn't you pronounce the beer Plinny?
Andrew Jenkins the brewery pronounces it "Plie-knee"
Cheers Ethan! Thanks for letting me know. Love the videos.
Good stuff....but don't skip the pizza!
What Gimbal do you use? Didn't see it in your list. Like how smooth your footage was in this vid. Those Gimbals are so damn heavy though.
What kind of sunglasses are you sporting? I like them!
Doug Lewis goodr.
Ethan.
You're hilarious. :)
I want the music to follow me on all my runs.
$175 for a half? is that standard pricing for that distance in the US?
Runner of Roads no, just the RockNRoll events and last minute registration
Weird, this doesn't show up on my subs page. Found it on twitter.
Ugh, really? Stupid RUclips.
what shoes did you go with for this? Kinvara?
kinvara 8
I just ordered the kinvara 7. I've had the 4,5 & 6. This will be my first everun shoe. Thanks for all you do! Hope the rest of 2017 is injury free for you.
what shoes did you pick for the race?
Kinvara 8.
TheGingerRunner Never could get into that shoe... You'll have to start reviewing La Sportiva again soon. They're coming out with 3 new shoes next year!
TheGingerRunner Kinvara 8 review incomming 👍
Philip, I'll be testing the Akasha I told you I'd be getting this week.
great last minute luck
Will you be running the SF Marathon this year?
Not this year, still one of my favorites though!!
Bummer. Hope you are enjoying Seattle. One last thing, I might try the LA marathon next year, do you know how it compares to the San Francisco marathon?
Why is it so expensive? Is it because of the late registration?
James Ambrocio yup.
The price includes a pair of new running shoes.
They're giving Disney a run for their money LOL
literally.
What injury did you have?
adductor strain.
I'm on the right side from 3:51 to 3:59
Cost double that in Vegas
is the guy in the orange t-shirt at 1:49 wearing a heart rate monitor over his t-shirt
Sadly I've seen too many of those guys at road races, it's cliche but you really are only cheating yourself when you cut corners like that.
aren't there supposed to be rock bands every mile? Isn't that the point?! wth?
Susea Albee it's about Rock n Roll inflatables and Elvis impersonators...not actual rock n roll. I can see why that may confuse some. They're gonna change the name to 'spirit' of rock and roll half and full going forward. It will be jam packed full of air guitarists and cool banners
3:13 don't be that guy, purely due to him form...wait, what?!, he cut some of the course?!?! (sorry if you are a viewer, guy, just as you should not cut the course, you should also not induce carpal tunnel)
$175? Jesus
I think you mixed up value and cost.
😂
Wow, not judging you but $175 for a half is just ridiculous...
skipping pizza is over rated.
