    That curry you had with the idli and vada is known as Sambhar ... deeply Spiced aromatic tangy lentil soup / stew with seasonal/ local vegetables always served complimentary with rice dishes, dosa, idli and vadaa ... common to all southern states of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu , Andhra ,Telengana and also Sri lanka.. which is a country you will love too...must explore along with Burma ,Maldives ,lakshadweep..then you've experienced all of south Asia..

    please visit Ranakpur Jain temple and Kumbhalgarh Fort near Udaipur in rajasthan.
    Ranakpur Jain temple is best and most beautiful architecture remaining in North India. the temple has 1444 columns each one of them looking different than others with intricate details. the audacious architect built it such way that if you remove any one column the entire Temple must come down. that too was done at a time when other parts of India was under foreign rule and thousands of temple were getting destroyed. Temple has a total of 84 underground chambers built to protect idols of the deities from destruction. its over 600 years old but still looks like it was built yesterday.
    Kumbhalgarh Fort has the second longest wall in the world after Great Wall of China.

    Hi Gabriel, I can't over how many temples are there the amount of time in building them must have been intense those temples could not have been built in a brief time and the detail is spectacular. The tourist don't seem to gravitate to these locations like other parts of India yet there is much to see you have obviously opened many people's eyes to what they haven't yet seen possibly a lack of interest. Or just not enough time to travel there. I find that for a lot of people this type of travel interest doesn't appeal to everyone, its history ang boring and there is little explanation of what you're looking at without a proper guide explaining everything. This could be very convoluted for a lot of travelers.

      I think the way it works with most of the western tourists is that they get to know about the places of interest in India either through word of mouth from other western tourists or through some YT videos of western tourists or through books written by western tourists. And in most of these sources, you get know about the same set of places that are popular among these circles (Golden triangle, Goa, Kerala etc.) and end up missing out on other parts of India which can offer equally good or better experiences. The only way to avoid this is to do more research through other sources of information.

      Because western tourists are hooked on to Taj Mahal while Taj Mahal is beautiful but definitely not as beautiful and complex as a lot of hindu temples like ellora and so many other temples in eastern and southern India. Most temples in north India were destroyed during the Islamic Invasion from the west but still there are very few of them. India is quite big and you would need years to explore different sections of the country.

    At 29:27, along with Ganesh ji, we see 'Nataraj'. Lord Shiva likes to dance, and his dancing form is named as 'Nataraj'. Before that Mr Gabriel rightly guessed as 'Durga ji'. Was it Idly or Dosa? From it's look I thought it must be Dosa. Along with Brown Doughnut shaped item was VADA. Idly, Vada and Dosa are made from almost similar ingredients, Rice and Blackgram, But they way these three dishes are cooked makes them different, Idly is steamed, Vada is fried in oil, Dosa is baked with some oil similar to Roti on a hotplate

    Not sure about anyone else but although I feel very attracted to India, visiting temples & religious festivals makes me feel very uneasy being a foreigner....cultural appropriation to the eye of the locals & in a certain way kind of understandable. Apart from this, I make the most of it blending in!

    Question: So the use of the swastiki in India clearly pre-dates the Nazi movement, what is the symbol known as in India?

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  Год назад +1

      It's called a swastika. The Nazis stole both the symbol and the name. It's been used by various cultures for many thousands of years, including the Romans: ruclips.net/video/boOmG1U8xmY/видео.html
