  • In this episode, we're talking sump guards for the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. This is the Hitchcocks louver mesh sump guard, which is an exclusive re-manufacture of the original that was used on the English made Series 2 Royal Enfield Interceptor between 1969 and 1970.
This sump guard is made from steel with a black powder coating.

The first sump guard is the one to have for me. More effective, less cost and looks the part

Great to see a new interceptor vid. I’ve never seen such an attractive sump guard! As a road rider I can see having easy access to the oil filter as a positive, but equally others might want more protection. I love it though, a definite addition to the growing accessories list.

I fitted an RE 'solid ' plate sump guard but just to stop road crud and animal 'produce' (cows etc) sticking to the underside of the engine while touring country lanes! To this effect the first guard would of been ok without the 4 x holes, but this last guard is worse than nothing in my required application.
The solid RE one I have is very easy to clean off. Result!

what i would like to see Hitchcock motors producing is the replica of the 1960's originals seat as it looks a lot more comfortable that the OEM

Defiantly a nice looking guard and it's great that Hitchcocks is reproducing one like went on the original Interceptor. If I find a extra 200 dollars in my pocket I might pick one up but for now I'll keep the current Royle Enfield sump guard. Cheers mate

I've bought the same guard, because I want that 1960s feel to my GT. Not being an off road bike I'm not concerned about the oil filter. If anything this guard makes a lot of things easier, especially that of draining water away after a good wash.

sump guard should cover oil filter as it is very vulnerable to damage

Love the look of this 😁 , not sure I'd swap my RE one for it as I like the filter protected , great video J hope your well 👍🏻

Looks terrific I would like to get this even tho it doesn’t protect the oil filter!
PS I agree it’s been a while(to long) since you done a RE Video!

I have the TEC part also. The Hitchcock guard is pretty cool, if it covered the filter I would have to get it.

    Another nice vid Mr WM.
Too little protection for way too much money IMHO........the genuine RE guard is still the top banana on my list.

Great bike WM! That’s a given. However, I actually prefer the TEC guard in terms of looks & protection of the oil filter. The diamond pattern looks really rough. Maybe it’s the stamping process or the painting/powder coating. Though, this is all offset by the complete amazing work & looks of your Interceptor!💯✅

Your interceptor just looks better in every way. And that sound track is absolutely tremendous! Have you thought of upgrading the tyres yet? Thanks!

Nice-looking gravel and rock collector! :-) Is there a special tool to clean out the meshwork?

I installed the S&S 2-1 exhaust but it’s real tight for a sump guard… wonder if this might do it.

That sump guard is quite nice looking. Would there be any issues attaching it if one has already installed Royal Enfield crash bars which also attach to the engine mounts?

Hi Patrick. I honestly don’t know. Maybe ask Hitchcocks. I’m guessing as long as the bolts are long enough (or you could use longer bolts). Just a guess though.

Love the expanded mesh design but it defeats it's own purpose not cover the filter. The filter is really the part I worry about anyway seeing as a rock at highway speeds from the front tire can easily puncture the filter and there goes your oil pressure, without you knowing. That is until it finds your rear tire. I would hope maybe they'll bring it up to cover the filter in the future.

Hello, I’ve been avidly following your RE-int mods. A while ago you mentioned possibly changing the callipers..did you? I appear to have missed it. I saw Bybre was called back….any thoughts?

Genuine RE sump guard with no holes easy clean with filter protected and not just clamped to frame ruining paint £64.99 or an impossible to clean chocolate fireguard £142.50 . Hmmm let me think .

I’m a road rider and I like the look of this one much better - I don’t really need max protection. Can’t beat the value of that RE part though.

Ouch how much £171 plus delivery far far too much. I would have thought £40 was plenty.

I guess they are very low volume production unlike the OEM pieces.

This sump Guard is not for me. The Original RE Guard is the best for engine protection. Which I have fitted to my GT650. It has definitely saved my engine casing from stone chips and damage. 👨‍🔧.

going to be totally honest here and I don't like either of these 2. Tec bike one just looks to plain and Hitchcock just doesn't fit the bike in my opinion and also doesn't protect on of the most important things to protect.

That's up there with the ashtray on a motorbike. Pointless and an expensive waste of money
