Like everywhere in the world there's dangerous places especially in big cities. Most foreigners that travel to Brazil change their mind about it because is not as bad as they though. 🇧🇷

if you have some street smartness and knows how to read the environment, you'll be fine. some areas are sketchy but you usually are kinda disconfortable in them, so trust your gut and don't go there. See how the locals do and copy them, if there taking care of their stuff you need to take care too, if their relaxed you can be relaxed too. but definetly this shouldnt be a reason to don't go there. just be aware of your environment and you'll have an awesome time

Every country on this planet has dangers. there are no thieves on London? no scam artists on Paris? no kidnappers on Berlin? no drug dealers in New York?

To add to what people said - yes, there is a lot of violence in Brazil, specially in Rio but somewhat present on all major cities. But it's important to understand that the violence is very contained to certain areas of the city like favelas, where there is a lot of poverty and not enough police, and it's almost always related to drug gangs (debt collecting or rivalry between gangs) or the war on drugs perpetrated by the police against said gangs. But even in those places, they don't usually target normal people just living their lives. If you are a turist, you will certainly not be exposed to that - you just have to be thoughtful about your belongins and surroundings, just like in any big city in the world.
The thing is you have very dangerous areas which I'd tell any tourist to avoid. There are also problems that common to a lot big cities, like NY for example. Being mugges.

Brazil is dangerous like in all big cities in the world, you won't have problem If you know how to walk alone on the streets of New York for example to walk here, there are lots of people coming to Brazil from around the world which isn't so strange to us since we have comunities living here from Japan, Russia, Germany, China and Italy. Our culture is full of mixes since we have a lot of influences from those who came a long time to our country to live here. Most of brazilians love to know people from other places, we treat them as a member of ou own family. The point is If your comming to visit Rio or São Paulo both cities are big cities, just walk here as If you were walking in New York at night and you'll be just fine.
About dangerous, u can avoid big cities and still will have tons of things to see
Some parts are dangerous yeah, don't go into favelas (honestly I would stay away from Rio but the rest is mostly fine for tourists)

Todo lugar no mundo é perigoso, o que faz ser perigoso são as pessoas, mas podemos dizer que no Brasil comparado a outros países a criminalidade pode ser considerada mais alta, o Brasil é lindo, cheio de cultura para explorar, Nordeste é lindo e lá estão as melhores praias, dunas e montanhas, Rio de Janeiro é lindo mas tem que tomar cuidado por onde anda, São Paulo também é impressionante, mas também tem que tomar cuidado por onde anda e com os seus pertences, Sul tem suas particularidades, é lindo de se ver, belas paisagens, cachoeiras e por ai vai, sem contar a culinaria, cada região tem a sua... no geral, independente da onde voce estiver, sempre vai se deparar com pessoas e elas podem estar dispostos a te ajudar e ser amigo de verdadade e outras podem estar querendo se aproveitar de voce e até mesmo te fazer o mal. Infelizmente é isso no mundo todo.

Brazil has violence but it is a lot of gang vs gang and police vs gang violence. But trust me it is worth it to go here as a tourist. There is so much to see, the country is beautiful and the people are some of the most friendly people in the world. As a tourist you need to look out for being robbed or scammed. Usually you don't need to worry about violent crimes like being beat up or killed. But as others have said just be smart. Stay around crowds, don't got to sketchy areas after dark, down flaunt expensive things, take a picture or video then put your phone/camera back in your pocket, etc... I have been to Brazil 10 times and besides an occasional scam (which happens in all big cities around the world) I have never had any issues.
Every country is dangerous, just don't go to really dangerous places lol, it's not like you walk around and someone will stab you

The best places in Brazil to visit to stay in the South Paraná region is Santa Catarina, in addition to the beauty of the place, it is completely safe. Santa Catarina is compared to Switzerland and Dubai in Brazil
