i love it......... one thing though, i didn't see these old videos before and i always wondered when randy started using "gear"............ surprised to see that he already was using at this young age oh well, to each his own i guess
Interesting point - In the US, Folkstyle is primary - from youth teams to high school to college. Greco-Roman (upper body only) and Freestyle are the internationally (and of course, up to recently Olympic) styles...Maybe that is part of it; they could be a little more informative in their presentation to engage the public.. I really don't understand why it was dropped. It is demanding, exhilarating, and fantastic - a cornerstone of the Olympic games.
Just like I seeing a good pitcher's duel in baseball as opposed to slugfests, I like seeing Couture, moving up in weight class, using great technique to come out on top against a guy with the power of Oostendorp
Tough as nails Hard Core all the way I have done Martial Arts all my life always wanted to do this, doing BJJ at the moment we don't have much wresting where I live, these guy's are fantastic I have to find a coach.
they pronounce johns name wrong its oh-sten-dorf anyway oostendorph is crazy he was a coach at a camp i went to he taught us a standing granby the head coach said after he left i didnt want to say this in front of him cuz jon scares me but dont do the granby its dangerous lol
well tgis is greco roman ur son will be doing folk style its points are much easier to understand 2 point for takedown or if u get behind when both of the opponent's knees are on the ground theres 1 point from escaping bottom position and getting neutral theres 2 points for reversing and if u get the opponent's shoulders flat on the matt u get the pin< if the opponent's shoulders are exposed to the matt but not both of them are down u get up t o 3 backpoints
@dromezz1993 ummmm...yeah it depends lol. Idk if you've ever seen the gymnasts in the gyms but they are fucking huge! Go to your local gymnasium and you're gonna be more than surprized. Personally though, i'd just learn both...which is what i'm gonna do!
TheFightDoctor That just means it was well defended, the ONLY way it could've been sweeter is if he loaded up his hips and tossed him.. I coached a kid that hit a beautiful head and arm on a first year wrestler..made the kid cry and kick but he didn't get pinned..
wait so terrible form + no pin + immediate reversal + beautiful. succesfull maybe cause he did get the takedown but by no means should it be considered beautiful.
Wrestlers have the best functional strength of any athlete in my opinion. True athletes.
This was the same year Randy entered his first mma fight at UFC 13.
I was at Oregon States summer camp in 1996 taught by Couture. Won the camp tourney!
Whoa its also the original commentator from the UFC, lol.

and to think the best is yet to come from this man
Thank you for posting
Very big randy, very muscular. He looked perfect back in the day.
Randy is a beast!
You are a wise man!! The worst, most humiliating whippings I have taken in my life have been from wrestlers. If you see the ears, go the other way!!
Freestyle or Greco?
@@ГолосУлиц-ю6в Either! :)
@@amoskowitz0103 has a greco chance to win in grappling match against freestyle?)
That was a very impressive win.
i love it.........

@SuperNingerGinger I wrestled and played football and I'm 330lbs and I don't think I would want to step out on the mat with these guys either.
Just like I seeing a good pitcher's duel in baseball as opposed to slugfests, I like seeing Couture, moving up in weight class, using great technique to come out on top against a guy with the power of Oostendorp
@superningerginger i wrestled for O in college. He is one of the most intense guys you will ever meet
MusicPhene17 At Coe?

Randy Couture in Ultimate Fighting Championship
UFC Heavyweight Championship (Three times)
UFC Light Heavyweight Championship (Two times)
Interim UFC Light Heavyweight championship (One time)
UFC 13 Heavyweight Tournament Winner
Incredible athlete (duh). Thanks for posting this!
Couture was a Greco Roman beast
Jeff Blatnick ironically enough would call some of Randy's early UFC fights as well.

God I love randy couture
Was this match for a collegiate NCAA division 1 title?? I read on Wikipedia that Randy was a two-time runner-up, but never a champion in college
Damn he's strong
I don't wrestle but I appreciate the skill power. There's no getting away from the fact that lycra singlets are horrific though.
how do you defend from a takedown to the hips or waist? i don´t see the same "sprawl"
well tgis is greco roman ur son will be doing folk style its points are much easier to understand 2 point for takedown or if u get behind when both of the opponent's knees are on the ground theres 1 point from escaping bottom position and getting neutral theres 2 points for reversing and if u get the opponent's shoulders flat on the matt u get the pin< if the opponent's shoulders are exposed to the matt but not both of them are down u get up t o 3 backpoints
My Friend good wrestler Randy !
@SuperNingerGinger wrestlers are some of the strongest athletes on the planet
Have you seen "When Fighting Gets Dirty" documentary about Brandon Bender? Randy has been promoting Brandon as the new prodigy for mma.
was that Rullon Gardner there at the very end?
I think so. I noticed him too when he walked passed Randy
The real Captain America!!!
Greetings from Mexico city.
How do you feel about wrestling Alexander Karelin? :)
Karelin is way heavier, can't compete
Tree trunk legs on ol' Randy Couture
the ears are from wrestling. That is what head gear is for.
isnt tha Rulon Gardner 4:48 - 4:50 ?
@ledias65 well,Androgenic Anabolic steroids come to a price (also, his head is bigger now,but that´s the hGH)
Then yes, this is greco-romano wrestling.
Randy looked great.
Couture es un luchador sumamente completo, es una leyenda!
did that guy ever have hair?
I think that is Rulon Gardner @ 4:48
@SuperNingerGinger because you can carve steel
randy looks young here
Dang Randy had cauliflower ears here! I thought he got that after being in MMA. Or was he also in MMA at this time?
You get cauliflower ear from not wearing a head gear in wrestling. It’s mandatory in h.s.
Of course not, it's obviously folkstyle wrestling.
@dsmgvr4 lol ironically i got my cauliflauer ear because of my headgear
The Natural.
randy couture was a beast anyway!!!!!
Damn randy is handsome.
@SuperNingerGinger 14 pounds makes a difference..... :p
@SuperNingerGinger Mannnnn you aint kiddin
Nothing worse than the ref stoping the match cuz of mercy lol
cool.
02:34 that´s called androgenic-anabolic steroid ehanced bulking,if he gained mostly fat to go up he could not adapt
What the hell john
honeyhoney/JoeRogan
Randy dominated this match!

@dstrbo13 yeah but he still looks about 40 haha ! with that receding hairline at a young age haha
heh at 4:18 "experience won out over youth here" and it's 96....haha
man i guess randy has been balding for a while haha
I thought it was funny when they called that headlock beautiful cause it was pretty ugly
You're on crack! For being so ugly it sure worked beautifully!
considering he didn't get the pin from it it didn't work very well
Michael Matthew not even a near fall
TheFightDoctor That just means it was well defended, the ONLY way it could've been sweeter is if he loaded up his hips and tossed him..
