Great video! I grew up in a family where we recognized pre-cognitive dreams as a fact of life. I experienced a few in my teenage years which were well documented as the dreams were shared with 3rd parties in advance of the actual events occurring. I was long frustrated with the dismissive attitude of physics to these experiences and I agree that non-locality gives us a doorway to understand the physics of these experiences.

Non-locality doesn't really exist. Our consciousness exists in any locality it chooses to, if the observer knows how to choose or is open to experiencing other localities without physically doing so.

  • @lucasrooney181

Regarding non-locality and the objection that brain cells are way bigger than subatomic particles, we really don’t know how big a thought is, we only understand the generators and receptors of the thought. We have no idea what a thought actually is physically, or whether it is non-physical (whatever that means).

This is a very common experience for me as well, or they’ll call me or something like that. In addition, it happens with ideas and concepts: one example I wrote down was talking about Wu Tang clan with a buddy who had never heard of it and then a couple of hours later a person with a Wu Tang clan shirt walks into the locker room I was in right when a Wu Tang clan song starts playing. This has happened with even more obscure topics and ideas then showing up on t shirts, etc. The likelihood these experiences are coincidence, I have them weekly, is probably hundreds of billions to one.

I think the keyword here is connection. If you need an operative principle, resonance. My own personal experience supports the concept but I am by no means an expert. The information just pops in independently of internal narratives and linear/analytical thinking. It comes from what I call ‘KNOWHERE’ pun intended.
Perhaps there are brain states (frequencies) involved. Perhaps not. To use a musical principle often talked about, it’s the space between the notes.

Fundamental to reality seems to be the quality of a part and a whole simultaneously. This is why the mere act of observation changes reality from a probability to a particle. Many scientists seem unable or unwilling to relinquish a material paradigm. The implications of quantum mechanics are immense. Trying isolate science from metaphysics doesn't really work.

This is a very illuminating discussion about the ESP. I think the professor has nailed it. The non-local nature of the quantum physics and the observer effect must be indeed the two central principles on which the ESP resides. It must be added that although the quantum realm is normally the microscopic world but quantum effects have also been observed macroscopically such as the topological quantum numbers (TKNN quantum numbers) that govern the macroscopic conductivity in variants of quantum hall effect, superconductivity, and superfluidity. So quantum effects must be able to manifest themselves in biology as well.

Better than quantum entanglement, a Closer ESP biological model -Thinking in terms of fractals- could be the synaptic space between two brain cells sending one thought to another. I’m not 100% sure but I think the space has something to do with helping a thought along between two separate systems . It also helps if you think of each neuron as its own system

Why was Robert pushing the argument that it needs a theory to be valid. I was disappointed that Robert was unable to clear his mind and accept there were solid experiments being conducted in a rigorous manner, following scientific best practice, with repeatable results, which were worthy of further investigation. Dean Radin nailed it when he said Observation is what matters, and theories come later. Most of science came from observations that did not fit expectations, which eventually led to new theories which we accept today as obvious, but they were radical, even insulting, when first proposed. ESP could be yet another of those. Robert struggles to be objective in this interview. We all have bad days, I suppose.

Do smaller effects have greater importance in quantum mechanics, where fields and wave functions are smaller scale? Also, does statistical analysis have more relevance for phenomenon related to quantum fields, which themselves are statistical in nature with probabilities?

    • @DeusExAstra
      @DeusExAstra 2 года назад +1

Large-scale quantum effects are very rare because generally they cancel out and the wave function collapses once you have interactions between particles. This is why this is generally not a factor in the macro world.

I find it troubling that the most convincing evidence comes from meta analyses. If real, ESP is such an important effect that people must have tried to demonstrate it in single studies in which the effect size has been can be taken into account in determining the required number of subjects. I would be very interested in knowing the most convincing single ESP study. If the statistics is carried out in a sound way, it would indeed change my mind. However, the reason why such studies might be difficult to find, might be the same as why no-one has even claimed the 1M dollars from James Randi, which is that no-one has been able to demonstrate paranormal abilities under controlled circumstances. Anyway, love this channel!

You make an assumption about the mental ability that is not valid and that is that the ability ''has to be'' strong or weak or medium sized and that's simply a question that requires a empirical answer and is not a theoretical question. No body would deny the fact that people can hit a baseball with a bat because its not a 100%. The best batters can get a hit rate of 30%, a person who never held a bat in his life would probably have a hit rate of less then 1%, a small effect but a real one.Again the effect does not need to manifest in any particular way in order to be considered real. It is after the fact that we develop theories to explain the facts.

To me mind reading is not really communicating, seeing what others are seeing or knowing/feeling what's in someones else's mind. Thought transmission is treu telepathy, but even that comes in forms. If consciousness is foundational and ESP just describes the interconnectedness of consciousness amongst those who possess it, I have to question how familial attacks and murders occur so frequently with no forewarning, even when they are planned well in advance. You would think some sense of the impending situation would be passed on to the target of the action through this shared consciousness by the planner/perpetrator. This one point doesn't negate the hypothesis, but it is something to consider.

    • @longcastle4863
      @longcastle4863 2 года назад

@@buddyrichable1 But a RUclips video is not a peer reviewed accredited scientific journal. Unless your research, results and findings are being scrutinized by scientific peers knowledgeable in the field -- who's sole purpose is to find even the tiniest flaws or inaccuracies in your methods, data collection, analysis or interpretation of results -- then your research is not of the highest caliber necessary to be accepted by the scientific community in general. It is because of such high standards that the science we have today works. There are journals who's worth and reputation rests on not publishing data or results later found to be wrong or inaccurate. For example, the journal, _Nature,_ is one of these. You look at a paper in _Nature_ and you know it's scientific method and interpretation of results are going to be airtight.

    • @geralddecaire6164
      @geralddecaire6164 2 года назад +3

@@longcastle4863 I find it remarkable that anyone who asserts the value of peer review research are often themselves guilty of not doing their own research. For example, a simple Google engine search on Dean Radin's official website will direct you to over 100 academic articles appearing in peer reviewed journals ranging from The Foundation of Physics and Physics Essays to Psychological Bulletin, Psychology of Consciousness and Frontiers in Human Neuroscience. Because that was so easy to find, I'm led to believe that your question is a rhetorical one premised on the assumption that none of this can actually be real. It's pretty easy to spot a real question as opposed to the ones that are actually statements. On a related topic, Michael Persinger-the inventor of the God helmet - insists that psi is real despite the fact he used to be a materialist sceptic and Michael Shermer's go-to source whenever he tried to debunk this phenomenon. Persinger also has a lot of peer review on the neurological physics on this topic but it's a bit camaflaged in order to get financing for this kind of research. See the popular video, No More Secrets, a RUclips video, for an overview of his work. Frankly, none of that actually convinces me that any of this is real. It's my personal experiences that mostly convince me. If you notice, Dean added that creative types typically showed higher effect sizes in psi than the average person or someone who leans more "right-brained" or analytical. Though I love science and studied it at university, I'm also a professional illustrator/artist. So I'm a mixed bag who always has this inner dialogue going on where on the one hand I keep having these experiences and then there's the sceptic in me that likes to test those experiences via sceptical inquiry. Hope that helps

Its funny how there is STILL a rather strong vibe afoot "as if" its simply a given that Radin doesn't do solid science & that the evidence for PSI(in whatever of its various forms & especially collectively) isn't FAR beyond what is typically acceptable as statistically significant for "understood" sciences/experimental results. The several decades of work done at Princeton alone(the home of Einstein mind you) should have at least raised some eyebrows. But of course, everyone involved MUST have just been mistaken in ALL instances. People even go so far as to really believe in an infinite # of imaginary universes for which there is ZERO empirical evidence mind you. Its ANYTHING but that perhaps its just our current preferred worldviews/narratives/metaphysics(mostly materialism/physical realism, a philosophy mind you) that needs updating. There is little question that such behaviors do indeed occur in nature & they are fundamentally no more or less baffling than Quantum weirdness itself, which is widely accepted. But thats OK since its only for "small things"🤔. Theres NO way attention/intention/mind/the C-word/experience(the ONLY thing we've ever had AND the only thing that we can be certain of btw) could possibly "fit" into the picture, since its "ONLY" a meaningless epi-phenomenon. We(our mindsets at large) will be laughed at eventually. If I was a betting man, I'd bet a few precious fingers on it.

I had to laugh out loud watching this one because, as he was speaking about shared experiences, I immediately knew the next words out of his mouth which concerned the Miracle at Fatima. How did I know? Maybe it's something like artificial intelligence which was created, at the outset, for software which predicts the next word you're going to type. The intersubjectivity that he is speaking about has some basis in reality. We all have the same notions of time and space and various concepts, but inter-subjectivity does not translate into shared thinking. Absolutely correct. And No. All the modern science can do is separate, divide, thus we have discrimination and can define based on contrasts of things and attributes, and this realm is the only place they can ponder with their form of methodology -- most of them today disregard metaphysics even. Acknowledging the One they do not care to engage. From what I learn for example: gravity, sound, energy, light, magnetism are all the same thing just different modalities, but they only seek to understand the parts and not the whole, therefore they cannot properly even understand the parts.
Regarding this video topic, they mostly exclude God because they cannot touch, fathom, measure or imagine the One; ESP is excluded because of lack of evidence. We know ESP is genuine, all the ancients were aware, all our scriptures are of.

There's just enough there that if you wanted to take a leap of faith and believe that you could muster some science up to look at it, but just barely. I think his explanation that since quantum physics allows for nonlocality that this someone allows for esp or possibly even explains it is just far-fetched and really a poor argument.

I think we dont even try ... once , a few years ago i started to write down the dreams i had each night. After a month the dreams were much much stronger, true experiences. Then i stopped because well life is always demanding too much attention but i wonder if i could have reached lucid dreaming and maybe deeper perceptions. I am not sure if ESP exists or not (i am more inclined not) but i am pretty sure that we dont practice enough and basically arent studied seriously anyway.

I would like to hear more about what quantum biology has to offer on this subject. Quantum tunneling of electrons is thought to occur in chlorophyll. In neurons it is thought to occur in organelles called micro tubules. And let us hear more about the QM/QFT mechanisms where complex numbers and even quaternions figure in. Do unlikely events occur within micro tubules given enough iterations? Could ESP be a modifier of complex weighting factors and ultimately a higher probability of seemingly "magical" things happening in the brain? How apparent are these effects when we try to observe them? Do they vanish under direct observation but would manifest with less direct observation such as statistical analysis?

The data this guy is talking about has been heavily questioned and many say that there's no statistically significance to show what he says it shows. It's just very easy for small unseen methodological problems with experiments or the meta-analysis to mess up your final conclusions. Also, note that what he's talking about isnt even scientific because he has no theory at all to describe what he's talking about. And of course, if you have no theoretical support for your claims, then it's pretty much impossible to falsify it. This is nothing but pseudoscience. He just starts to talk about things like entanglement because he thinks it will lend his claims validity, to make people think that at least there's SOME basis in physics for what he's claiming. But, there's really NO reason to think that quantum effects like these have any effect on the macro level to the extent that ESP would require. The only believable thing he said is that it's all nonsense.

Third, Dr. Radin admits in the video they are looking for the evidence of a connection between the quantum and physical (in the context of looking for evidence of ESP) because they don't have it yet.
Personally, I don't think ESP exists. However, discussing it and having scientists explore it may turn up evidence one day, maybe not. That's what's so great about science, it constantly explores things and tries to make sense of a fantastic universe.

    🐟 06. CONSCIOUSNESS/AWARENESS:
Consciousness means “that which knows” or “the state of being aware”, from the Latin prefix “con” (with), the stem “scire” (to know) and the suffix “osus” (characterized by). There is BOTH a localized knowing and a Universal Awareness, as explicated in the following paragraphs.
Higher species of animal life have sufficient cognitive ability to KNOW themselves and their environment, at least to a measurable degree. Just where consciousness objectively begins in the animal kingdom is a matter of contention but, judging purely by ethological means, it probably starts with vertebrates (at least the higher-order birds and fishes). Those metazoans which are evolutionarily lower than vertebrates do not possess much, if any, semblance of intellect, necessary for true knowledge, but operate purely by reflexive instincts. For instance, an insect or amphibian does not consciously decide to seek food but does so according to its base instincts, directed by its idiosyncratic genetic code. Even when a cockroach flees from danger, it is not experiencing the same kind of thoughts or feelings a human or other mammal would experience.
The brain is merely a conduit or TRANSDUCER of Universal Consciousness (i.e. Brahman), explaining why the more intelligent the animal, the more it can understand its own existence (or at least be aware of more of its environment - just see how amazingly-complex dolphin and whale behaviour can be, compared with other aquatic species), and the reason why it is asserted that a truly enlightened human must possess a far higher level of intelligence than the average person. The processing unit of a supercomputer must be far larger, more complex and more powerful than the processor in a pocket calculator. Therefore, it seems logical to conclude that the scale of discrete (localized) consciousness is dependent on the animal's brain capacity.
See Chapter 17 to understand the distinction between enlightenment and mere awakening.
Three STATES of awareness are experienced by humans and possibly all other species of mammals:
the waking state (“jāgrata”, in Sanskrit), dreaming (“svapna”, in Sanskrit), and deep-sleep (“suṣupti”, in Sanskrit). Beyond these three temporal states is the fourth “state” (“turīya” or “caturīya”, in Sanskrit). That is the unconditioned, eternal “state”, which underlies the other three.
The waking state is the LEAST real (that is to say the least permanent, or to put it another way, the farthest from the Necessary Ground of Existence, as explained towards the end of this chapter). The dream state is closer to our eternal nature, whilst dreamless deep-sleep is much more analogous to The Universal Self (“brahman”), as it is imbued with peace. Rather than being an absence of awareness, deep-sleep is an awareness of absence (that is, the absence of phenomenal, sensual experiences). So, in actual fact, the fourth state is not a state, but the Unconditioned Ground of Being, or to put it simply, YOU, the real self/Self, or Existence-Awareness-Peace (“sacchidānanda”, in Sanskrit).
Perhaps the main purpose of dreams is so that we can understand that the waking-state is practically indistinguishable to the dream-state, and thereby come to see the ILLUSION of this ephemeral world. Both our waking-state experiences and our dream-state experiences occur solely within the mental faculties (refer to Chapter 04 for an elucidation of this phenomenon). If somebody in one of your dreams were to ask your dream-state character if the dream was real, you (playing the part of that character) would most likely say, “yes, of course this is real!” Similarly, if someone were to ask your waking-state character if this world is real, you would almost undoubtedly respond in kind.
An apt analogy for Universal Consciousness is the manner in which electricity powers a variety of appliances and gadgets, according to the use and COMPLEXITY of the said device. Electricity powers a washing machine in a very simple manner, to drive a large spindle for laundering clothes. However, the very same electrical power may be used to operate a computer to manifest an astonishing range of outputs, such as playing audiovisual tracks, communication tasks, and performing extremely advanced mathematical computations, depending on the computer's software and hardware. The more advanced/complex the device, the more complex its manifestation of the same electricity.
Using the aforementioned computer analogy: the brain is COMPARATIVELY equivalent to the computer hardware, deoxyribonucleic acid akin to the operating system working in conjunction with the memory, the intellect is equivalent to the processing unit, individuated consciousness is analogous to the software programme, whilst Universal Awareness is likened to the electricity which enlivens the entire computer system.
A person who is comatosed has lost any semblance of local consciousness, yet is being kept alive by the presence of Universal Consciousness.
The fact that many persons report out-of-body experiences, where consciousness departs from the gross body, may be evidence for the above.
So, then, following-on from the assertion made in the third paragraph, one could complain: “That's not fair - why can only a genius be enlightened?” (as defined in Chapter 17). The answer is: first of all, as stated above, every species of animal has its own level of intelligence on a wide-ranging scale. Therefore, a pig or a dog could (if possible) ask: “That's unfair - why can only a human being be enlightened?”
Secondly, it is INDEED a fact that life is unfair, because there is no “tit for tat” law of action and reaction, even if many supposedly-great religious preceptors have stated so. They said so because they were preaching to wicked miscreants who refused to quit their evil ways, and needed to be chastized in a forceful manner. It is not possible to speak gentle words to a rabid dog to prevent it from biting you.
There is evidence of Consciousness being a universal field, in SAVANT SYNDROME, a condition in which someone with significant mental disabilities demonstrate certain abilities far in excess of the norm, such as superhuman rapid mathematical calculation, mind-reading, blind-seeing, or astounding musical aptitude. Such behaviour suggests that there is a universal field (possibly in holographic form) from which one can access information. Even simple artistic inspiration could be attributed to this phenomenon. The great British singer-songwriter, Sir James Paul McCartney, one day woke with the complete tune of the song, “Yesterday”, in his mind, after hearing it in a dream. American composer, Paul Simon, had a similar experience when the chorus of his sublime masterpiece, “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, simply popped into his head.

In recent years, the term “CONSCIOUSNESS” has been used in esoteric spiritual circles (usually capitalized) to refer to a far more Homogeneous Consciousness (“puruṣa”, in Sanskrit), due to the fact that the English language doesn’t include a single word denoting the Universal Ground of Being (for instance “Brahman”, “Tao”, in other tongues). The word “Awareness” (capitalized) is arguably a more apposite term for this concept.
The typical person believes that the apparatus which knows the external world is his mind (via the five senses), but more perceptive individuals understand that the mind itself is cognizable by the intellect. Wise souls recognize that the sense of self (the pseudo-ego) is the perceiver of their intellects, whereas awakened persons have realized that the true self/Self is the witness of ALL these temporal phenomena.
The true self is synonymous with Consciousness, or with Infinite Awareness, or the Undifferentiated Unified Field (“Brahman”, in Sanskrit).
The dialectic exercise in the following three paragraphs should help one to understand the nature of the fundamental conscious observer, that is, the ULTIMATE observer of all phenomena (i.e. the subject/Subject, which is the authentic self, as opposed to material objects):
If one were to ask you whether you are the same person or individual you were at birth (or even at conception), you would probably respond in the affirmative. So, then, what PRECISELY is it about you which has remained constant since conception? In other words, what is the self-identity you had as an infant, which is the present “you”? It cannot be any part of your body or mind, since none of the atoms or molecules in your zygote body are extant, and “you” certainly did not possess a mind at conception. If you are reasonably intelligent, you may claim that your genome is the same now as it was then. However, it has recently been scientifically demonstrated that genetic code can (and usually does) change throughout an individual’s lifetime. Furthermore, nobody actively conceives of their essential nature being a bunch of genes!
More intelligent souls would probably counter thus: “The thing which stays the same from my birth to the present time is my sense of self.” This too, is fallacious, since the sense of self does not emerge until at least a couple of years after birth. An infant has no ideation of itself as an individual actor. You may then say “I was a (male/female) human being” but that doesn’t specify any PARTICULAR human (you, yourself).
So, then, what EXACTLY is it which remains “you” from conception till death? That is the “I am” which precedes any artificial sense of self. In other words, rather than saying “I am a man/woman/human/king/pilot/etc.”, simply the impersonal sense of “I am”. That is the true self, which is the Universal Self. Therefore, your essential nature is Cosmic Consciousness, usually called “God” by theists (see also Chapter 10).
The Tao (The Reality [lit. The Way, The Path, or The Road]) which can be expressed in language is not the REAL Tao. All concepts are, by nature, relative, and at most, can merely point to the Absolute. That explains why some branches of theology use the apophatic method of discerning The Infinite (“neti neti”, [not this, not that], in Sanskrit). Also known in Latin as “via negativa” or “via negationis” theology, this philosophical approach to discovering the essential nature of Reality, gradually negates each description about Ultimate Reality, but not Reality Itself.
Ultimate Reality (“Brahman”, in Sanskrit [from “bṛh” - lit. “Expansion”, in English]) alone is real - “real” in the sense that it is the never-mutable substratum of ALL existence. The wisest of the philosophers of ancient India distinguished the “real” from the “unreal” (“sat/asat”, in Sanskrit) by whether or not the “thing“ was eternal or ephemeral (cf. Bṛhadāraṇyaka Upaniṣad 1:3:28, Bhagavad-gītā 2:16, et altri).
Gross material objects (such as one's own body) and subtle material objects (such as thoughts) are always changing, and therefore not “real”.
REALITY is clearly seen by those self-realized persons who have experienced spiritual awakenings (which occur either spontaneously, or after a gradual process over many months or years), yet only intellectually understood by those who have merely studied spiritual topics (that is, those who have practiced one of the four systems of religion described in Chapter 16, but have yet to awaken to their essential nature).
“If you remain as you are now, you are in the wakeful state. This is abolished in the dream state.
The dream state disappears, when you are in deep sleep. The three states come and go, but you are always there.
Your real state, that of Consciousness itself, continues to exist always and forever and it is the only Reality.”
      *************
“The ego is the identified consciousness. When the impersonal Consciousness identifies itself with the personal organism, the ego arises.”
      *************
“The only true meditation is the constant impersonal witnessing of all that takes place in one’s life as mere movements in the universal Consciousness.”
      *************
“Consciousness must first be there, before anything else can BE. All inquiry of the seeker of truth, must therefore, relate to this consciousness, this sense of conscious presence, which as such, has no personal reference to any individual.”
      *************
“Insofar as you keep watching the mind and discover yourself as its witness, nothing else can project itself on the screen of consciousness.
This is so, because two things cannot occupy the attention, at the same moment. Therefore, delve within and find out where thoughts arise.
Seek the source of all thought and acquire the Self-knowledge, which is the awakening of Truth.”
      *************
“Just as the difference between the space in a pot and the space outside it disappears when the pot is demolished, so also does duality disappear when it is realized that the difference between the individual consciousness and the Universal Consciousness does not in fact exist.”
      *************
“All there is, is consciousness. That is the Source from which the manifestation has come.
...And the mind is merely a reflection of that Consciousness.”
      *************
“All there is, is Consciousness, not aware of Itself in Its noumenal Subjectivity, but perceived by Itself as phenomenal manifestation in Its objective expression. If this is understood in depth, there is nothing more to be understood.”
      Ramesh S. Balsekar,
      Indian Spiritual Teacher.
“As a man who has devoted his whole life to the most clearheaded science, to the study of matter, I can tell you as a result of my research about the atoms this much: There is no matter as such! All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particles of an atom to vibration and holds this most minute solar system of the atom together. We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent Spirit. This Spirit is the matrix of all matter.”
      *************
“I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness. We cannot get behind consciousness. Everything that we talk about, everything that we regard as existing, postulates consciousness.”
      Max Karl Ernst Ludwig Planck,
      German Theoretical Physicist.
