As I often say, today's stamps are just expensive stickers.

Excellent video! Loved it. Short, concise, packed with interesting information. Thanks! I didn't know there was a 1925 issue of this commemorative stamp.

Oscar, thanks for that excellent video covering the 1924 and 1925 Wembley Exhibition stamps. What is probably less well known, and you, yourself didn't mention them was that the post office also issued four varieties of what is commonly known as postal stationery, which used the exact same designs, colours and denominations as the postage stamps themselves. There are four varieties, and, just like the stamps, they were issued for the two years of the Exhibition, so, eight in all: a penny-halfpenny stamped envelope (or "three halfpence" as it is worded), a penny-halfpenny letter card, and a penny postcard and a penny-halfpenny postcard for each of the two years. Interestingly, the penny-halfpenny postcard for each of the two years has something which, as you mentioned, no British postage stamp has ever had: the name of the country , Great Britain, printed on the front of the card. I believe this might be because the higher denomination postcard was for sending messages overseas, and might necessitate the cards saying where they came from. The cards also have "Universal Postal Union" printed on them. I only found out about these items when I started to collect British postal stationery, and it took me a couple of years to acquire all eight of them, just finally getting the last one quite recently. I also recently acquired a cover with the penny-halfpenny stamp (not, sadly a first day cover) used on a letter sent to a British diplomat at the Hungarian legation in Budapest. And finally I have a nice cover with the British lion logo used as a cancellation device which was used for a few months. All in all, a wonderful set of stamps and postal stationery.

Why are they the first commemorative stamps? Wasn't there Queen Victoria 1887 Jubilee set of stamps? Aren't those stamps commemorative?

    • @StanleyGibbons1856

Thank you for your comment. The Jubilees are definitives and not commemoratives as they don't commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. We hope you enjoy this video and keep an eye out for more of our content.

Very good presentation, 'technically'. No reading from a prompt, just good preparation and the occasional glance at your notes. Although this is largely a 'talking head' video, that makes it lively.
