In SG 70% of the population is Chinese but majority of Singaporeans voted Tharman as President, this is something fascinating ! Voters choose the best man for the post (based on credibility ).
no best man lah! tharman was a distracted student in raffles and a rebel in class . tharman admits this but he puts it as he was nehwer a focus student and plays hockey and gohchoktong said this. tharman was reported in business times 1992 he was 'arrested' in 1992 by ISA 内安法 by LKY as activist.... tharman says he was young and 'angry'... . gohmen says you gud means you gud, says you bad means you bad. 没人敢讲而已。no fascinating lah, all info are un-informed and/or mis-informed to all sinkapoleans niah, so he become a 'perfect hero'...

Just a correction. Our Elected President does not have power to appoint Prime Minister who is chosen by the winning party which forms the Government. The President only has veto powers on certain key appointments in the Civil Service such as he can veto the appointment or dismissal of Chief Justice, Supreme Court judges, Attorney-General, Auditor-General, Accountant-General, CPIB (anti-corruption bureau) Director, Chairman of Public Service Commission, Chief of Defence Force, Commissioner of Police, chairman or board member or CEO of statutory boards & director or CEO of government-linked company listed in the 5th Schedule

"The Prime Minister of Singapore is appointed by the President of Singapore under Article 25 of the Constitution."
I did check on this. She's correct. The President appoints the PM under Article 25 of the Constitution. Choose and appoint are different. The ruling party chooses their leader. The President formalises the choice for him/her to be the head of government.
@@malsohmt OK thanks. But the appointment of PM is just a ceremonial formality. She mention the appointment of PM after safeguarding national reserves, so thought I should clarify the President only has veto power on certain key appointments but no veto power on PM
@@hc1326yes is ceremonial for the president to officially appoint the PM.
Hence, if we have a freak election and elected a trouble making president, he or she has the power to reject the appointment of PM

Small add on, the void deck is also occasionally used for Malay weddings! So sometimes weirdly and awkwardly you might see a funeral and a wedding in close proximity of the same area…

Basically, the President's role is mostly ceremonial and this time, it's not difficult to see who will win, so most Singaporeans don't find anything unpredictable about it and hence not much excitement about except for people in Jurong East maybe. Actual power lies in the hands of the PM. But we don't get to vote for the PM.

Central government will arrange and appoint someone for the election. Upon election they will elect on behalf of people of HK … so it’s really considerate and a heart warming act of the central government decided everyone in HK without troubling them.

Yes. Singapore's Presidential Elections is rather "unexciting". Which is why the news media has to try very hard to make it seem like a real contest. So in the days before Polling Day, they will hype up the "no-hopers" to drum up excitement and tension for the election. But, most people already know who they will be voting for. Moreover, the Presidential Election is the process of electing the Head of State, and the President of Singapore has no Executive powers (unlike the President of the United States, the President of France, or the Chief Executive of Hong Kong). So knowledgeable Singaporeans know that the extravagant promises of Candidates who think that the President has executive powers are so much empty promises. On Polling Day, prudent Singaporeans would already have plans to leave Singapore by noon, after voting, to maximise the opportunity offered by a surprise long weekend.
So happy to know a INDIAN HAS BEEN SELECTED FOR PRESIDENT OF SINGAPORE...HK TO NEED A INDIAN GOVERNOR.
