  • As foreign immigrants in the Philippines, we see things differently than Filipinos do. It's fun to realize what you notice about each country as you spend longer and longer periods of time away from the place you were born.
In today's vlog we show life on the beautiful island of Siargao and simultaneously we show our home towns in Great Britain. The contrast between the two lifestyles and how we feel about that.

The U.K. is where I was brought up. As I am English Scottish and NZ-Kiwi. My dad is English my mum is a Kiwi. So as an adult I have lived in the UK New Zealand Australia Spain and Phuket. Now I live in the Philippines. Are are some good things about the U.K. but in my opinion I will never ever move back to the U.K. to live. Out of all the countries I have e lived in Thailand and the U.K. are the 2 countries I would never want to live in e er again. The 2 countries I would like to live in again are Australia and Philippines luckily at the moment I live in one of them the Philippines. None of these countries are by any means perfect.

I can understand where J is coming from i.e. immigration. I was born and raised in Manila. but now lived in England longer than I have lived in the Phils. I also had the opportunity to acquire a higher education in the UK in addition to my degree from the Phils. There are definitely differences between the two cultures. However, I have learned to embrace the English culture without losing my Filipino culture.
I find they complement each other and have something to learn from one another.
For me, it's down to the basics of human traits, kindness, understanding, caring, respect, consideration, accepting what is and not comparing the two, just awareness of the differences and transcending the conflict that may arise from those differences. I don't consider myself British or Filipino. I am ME. it's my spiritual journey and I am continuing to learn.

Makes sure before any repairs, let them know you don't want any of the old parts back and they will dispose of it. Also, here in Manila specially when I go take my vehicle for repairs or change oil they do a complete job! I have not seen them leave anything for me to put back. Guess your dealing with a barrio mechanic in the place like that so you get that sort of service. It varies where you go. Here in Manila, I don't even feel I've left the US really except when I realize I have a Jolibee in every corner. LOL

I live on Siargao. It is no longer a remote island. It is slowly becoming a very touristy place for local Philippines holidaymakers and foreign backpackers to come to. Lots of the local Filipino surfers born and brought up on the island now have blond foreign girlfriends. The island is now getting more and more crowded as the days go
      by.

One thing every foreigner should know when going into another country is to never bring the whole idea of comparing a Western culture and be shocked about it. You immerse and adapt to the culture with no expectations. Philippine mechanics differ from places, but generally some Filipinos would want to keep the old parts specially the ones that can still be re-used.

A lot of times its not cheaper or they stop giving you credits or it's not allowed. I know in Oklahoma they don't allow it. It's so stupid. Why? Because they loose money. So greedy they are.
